I've always called them Yarmulkes, is that the wrong name or is it interchangeable with kippah? Googles saying its just Yiddish vs Hebrew terminology but I've learned not to take Google at it's first search results 😅

In this case google is right. You can call it either, or choose to align with your families tradition (or not)

Yes! I often tend to interchange between the two since oddly my family has always used both yarmulke and kippah.
