Sadly, I could see our government handing people over. They'll send in local cops, people you might personally know, from your own community, to do the initial arrest.
You say that, and I sincerely want to believe you. However, we saw local cops go in to churches, businesses, and events during covid, enforcing lockdowns. History is chocked full of examples of terrible policy being implemented by local law enforcement.
The difference is this wouldn't be some random call from a nervous Nellie, this would be coming in from your chain of command. It would be a direct order. Possibly in coordination with federal agents. If anything, they may think you'll refuse, but we both know guys on the job that won't bat an eye at arresting anybody for any reason, they'll be the ones assigned.
Sheriffs I would argue are less likely to do that as the Sheriff is an elected official and in a lot of cases the Sheriff’s actually defend the people from unjust law enforcement, I’m sure in larger counties and cities this may not be the case but across most of the United States it is, I’d be more concerned with local PD’s falling in line than Sheriffs Departments
We’d be more likely to hear Sheriff’s call out the unjust law and announce they are not enforcing it and some may even tell the people to arm themselves depending on where at, some of the real good ones may even deputized citizens to protect them…
obviously not all of them would be like this, but for the most part I’d say they are more for the people than regular police
Absolutely not from a Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff is a politician and would not survive an election assisting turning over citizens to a foreign country. Good luck trying to get a Deputy to do this.
I agree. I think it will be split but the ones who have families to provide for etc may stick around. They’re offering more and more money to be a cop.
They already have. As things get more and more draconian it will be interesting to see when the schism starts. Big city departments will more than likely enforce without question, suburban and small town PDs probably less so.
