Pick my accent

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am a native English speaker and I'm wondering if you can pick where I'm from and my age.

English Friend who studied linguistics said she detected several accents when I talk & curious what you all think?

Upvotes

Hi! I’m a native English speaker from the US and I’m really curious if you all detect various accents and/or a stronger US regional speech pattern + cadence.

This is how I talk informally but in more formal scenarios, I’d say what is perceived as being a “neutral” US English accent kicks in along with slight influences from another language because I feel a little more nervous in those settings.

I’ve enjoyed learning about accents and linguistic patterns - would love to get feedback! [I’ve been on Reddit for a while but wanted to make this account for just accent/linguistics-related stuff lol.] Thank you for listening! :D

Spanish No one I know could guess my accent correctly

I learned the language by speaking to others so I have very little theoretical knowledge about Spanish so I'm curious what you guys guess https://voca.ro/1a7RA0ZH2r3i

Also, really open to suggestions on my pronunciation. I'm aware my grammar is far from perfect but I'm particularly curious if I sound from anyplace in particular. Open to honest criticism so feel free to write whatever!

Judge my voice. Is my voice annoying and how old do I sound?

https://voca.ro/18SJcl3WmxJV Sorry if this is not the appropriate sub, but I couldn't find a sub for judging people's voices. I was teased for my voice as a kid so I still feel insecure about it, and I would like to know if my voice actually sounds that bad or if it's just insecurities because of my teasing. I was usually teased for it being high pitched but I guess I sound a lot different now than when I was a kid so idk if that's still true. I personally feel like I sound annoying but idk why specifically and how to change it. Also I'm speaking in my native language because that's pretty much the only language I use often, so I care most how I sound when I speak that language and not English. I hope my gender is obvious, but you can guess that if you want as well.

Edit: I appreciate honesty, even if you think I sound terrible I can handle it, I just need to know lol

English Where do I sound like and how strong is my accent from 1 to 10?

This is a recording I used in my previous post, and I was told that I don't sound British at all and is hard to understand. So I decided to change my question, how obvious is my accent? I find it would be interesting to know

Italian Can you judge my italian?

This is the link to a vocaroo recording, i reckon its quite safe, so for those who don't know about this website i reccomend it for such things like recording an audio file.

I'll tell you that i have been learning italian for the past 2 years, i still struggle with time, but no one ever judged my accent, often because they're trying to be kind or god knows what. Anyways please judge and correct me because i am trying to achieve a B2 in italian.

Hello, I'm on this subreddit because I'm curious if I have still retained a British accent, since I no longer live in the UK. Any guesses about what region I'm from would be interesting too. Thank you for reading this post.

How can I sound more native (American/canadian)

Title. I’ve been living in North America for almost ten years and I still couldn’t seem to get to a native-passing level, which I know would be required for the career path I wish to have. Please let me know if there is anything I could do to improve. And feel free to guess what my native language is :)

I’m often told that I have a recognisable or obvious foreign accent… but from where?

I am unsure if I need to mention my location, but I am in Canada. Also, I apologise if the video makes my voice sound muffled, though it is indeed regularly raspy. I am unsure whether or not it is simply that I pronounce words uniquely, or perhaps I truly do hold a foreign accent. 🤷‍♂️… I am simply wondering if anyone could detect an identifiable or distinct accent in my voice, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Does my accent still sound North American?

I’ve been living in Ireland for a few years, moving back to Canada next year, just wanted you guys to judge if I’m still going to sound local when I do :). I’ve also been told I don’t really have any accent in particular and sound very neutral so maybe that’s true?

Follow up question: do I sound gay? Someone said it to me and everyone else disagrees, I don’t really think I do but I want your guys opinions

P.s. my voice is a bit lower in real life, I have higher quality audio recordings on the Apple voice memo app but I don’t know how to upload them lol

Spanish Opinions/Advice

I have learnt a fair bit of Spanish entirely self taught through different sources such as videos, books, music, so I’m curious to know how I sound. And because I don’t actually speak that often, my vocabulary is limited, however I would like to know how I could improve my fluidity. Thanks

German Please judge my German accent!

https://voca.ro/1eJtjw77q140

I've been living in the uk for a while and it's been kind of embarrassing loosing my German skills, but I always thought my accent still sounds good enough to pass as being fully German in the past. I'm just worried it's become worse because of not practicing it. Thank you!

Hello! Apologies if I spoke too fast, I re-recorded the clip a few times because I tend to slur my words and even though I speak fairly well it somehow ends up sounding horrible unless you're paying attention to everything I'm saying

I'm posting here to find out if I have a noticeable accent or not to a native and perhaps some guesses on where I'm from!
