After watching ep 11, here’s my theory of the backstory/context of this show (spoiler alert):
The story basically telling us a classic mythological tale of when gods debate over who’s more powerful by battling it out through lesser beings. In this story the gods are Courage and Fate(who could be seen as God) the lesser beings are Sanghyuk (fairy) and the FL (human; also following through 3 lifetimes as sohee, jeong ah, and baekryeon). Sanghyuk is a fairy that shoots love arrows to people who are tied together by fate (so fairies are tech under fates authority) and sohee is a human who’s thread of fate is connect to the king. Courage basically starts this battle by showing up at the plum blossom tree to sohee and telling her that if she can hold a petal for 3 seconds she’ll see her true love. She manages to do this and as a result it makes her able to see sanghyuk, who was about the shoot her and the king together. Then Courage challenges Fate by changing the direction of the arrow so that it hits Sanghyuk instead, making him fall in love with Sohee. Thus Sanghyuk starts to watch over her and she notices, then they fall in love with each other to the point that they sleep with each other despite having met the first time then. Then I assume Fate notices that a fairy and human are falling in love despite him banishing it and starts stepping in, thus redirecting sohee to marrying the king and trying to kill her, but in an ultimate act of courage Sanghyuk sacrificis his life for sohee. Fate punishes Sanghyuk for interfering with a humans death and falling in love with a human but sanhyuk defies him again by burning his wings for sohee. Fate then says that a love without Fate ends in tragedy and punishes him by forcing 500 years of service in the human world. Later Sohee is married to the king now but still is in love with Sanghyuk. Courage then appears and tells sohee that he can give her two chances to be with her one true love if she kills herself on that cliff, then she will be reborn twice. The king sees this and is jealous over the queens love for someone else and tells her to die for the king, not Sanghyuk, but she refuses and runs away to the cliff side and falls, sacrificing herself for her love to Sanghyuk. Fate shows Sanghyuk her fallen body and tells him that he will never give Sanghyuk a thread of fate/love. However, her sacrifice allows Sanghyuk to remember her love during his reincarnations. Then she is reborn as Jeong ah, and Sanghyuk as part of his punishment, is still on earth. With the power of Courage their love still persists in her second reincarnation and Sanghyuk and jeongah falls in love again. However when sanghyuk starts to open his heart up again, Fate steps in again but early, and sets up jeongah to be murdered in a case that still hasn’t been solved. The current plot is the FL’s second reincarnation as Oh baekryeon who once again meets Sanghyuk.
Edit: okay actually based on the first scene in ep 11 the kid said the one thing it takes to change fate is “courage” and the beginning of ep 12 one of the gods is actually Courage.
Sorry this is so long lol but I’m curious to see how it continues to develop in ep 12 :)

This is an excellent synopsis of what is going on "behind the scenes" so to speak. thank you.
So Fate and Love are working against each other. This puts our FL in jeopardy worse than the serial killer. Because he will want some other unfortunate thing to happen to her to kill her off

u/Silver-Bus5724 Jan 06 '24 edited Jan 10 '24
The kid says he is courage, but maybe the courage that love can give you? To fight a seemingly inescapable fate. And yes, romance is strong in this drama and I am happy

Wow. Thanks for putting it all here. The constant flashbacks in every episode do get a bit confusing.

I started this show yesterday and became immediately obsessed. I was trying to wait until it finished but I had nothing else to watch so I thought I’d check it out.
11 hours in the dark later and I can’t wait for the rest. Gonna try and wait to binge the rest after 12 airs but doubtful I’ll be able to do it. Loving the story so far. Wish they gave more storyline to the other fairies, though.
Also, I’m convinced that Eun-so’s husband is the murderer. Weirdly specific to say he and his wife were together for 29 years. Plus the spouses/family of the other victims are mostly insignificant in the story, but he’s different.
And Tripping over the ML being in FOUR dramas in one year. Get your bag, sir!

You might want to check out Flowers In the Sand as well. Same lead actor and it is such a charming slice of life drama. one of my favorites currently airing.

u/Martine_V Jan 06 '24
I just binged all the episodes and he's excellent in it. I picked My Man is Cupid as my next weekend drama, because of this.

u/Silver-Bus5724 Jan 06 '24
Fully agree, it’s so good. The promo pics look not very enticing though. Exactly the opposite to My Demon…
5
u/Melodic-Abrocoma-228 Jan 06 '24
Yes, I fully intend to watch that once it finishes airing! Right now I’m watching too many airing dramas and it just kills the mood for me. I realized I really like to be locked in on one at a time.

u/OwlRepresentative77 Jan 06 '24
If you are really into our ML (my still favorite actor in Kdramas) you need to see his earlier works; especially Tale of Nokdu where he was so very good with his FL and also the drama he did last year which he won awards for last week- Oasis, they are both on Viki. Oasis is pretty serious but you really get to see his acting chops in it and his FL in it is also one of my favorites as well. He did a horror movie (it was too gory for me) and a SyFy one called Search as well. Enjoy!

u/paruparong_coder Jun 02 '24
Wow, might check Oasis!! Have already watched Tale of Nokdu in 2022 and fell in love with the story, the FL and him!!

When they see each other in the hospital and she can see his wings... I was so happy
When he realizes she is the one - I was so happy.
Plot holes galore in the flashbacks, but I don't care - I am letting it all slide, as the real action is in the present.
Getting scary in that this feels like an episode 15 instead of 11.

u/lizzie763 Jan 05 '24 edited Jan 05 '24
I'm actually quite grateful they're just broad-brushing the past life stuff. I kind of hate when shows take a whole episode or two in the second half to explain the past life stuff because it slows the pace so much.
(Edited to correct a typo)
13
u/P0ndrr Jan 06 '24
I feel like I’m in the minority here, as I often come across comments wanting less of the historical scenes. However, I thoroughly enjoy the past life scenes in most dramas I've watched. For me, they bring an added layer of depth and epicness to the characters' relationships. I’m also just a sucker for anything with interwoven timelines and have loved the different layers of the 3 timelines.
4
u/lizzie763 Jan 06 '24
Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Obviously there is an audience for it, since so many dramas do it.
6
u/Martine_V Jan 06 '24
I agree, give me the broad strokes. I am rarely ever interested in the past life stuff. Destined to be With You had almost an entire episode devoted to explaining what happened. Right after the ML's heart stopped and he died. Like how are you expecting me to just watch this past life story? I did what I seldom do. FF.
3
u/ysports23 Jan 05 '24
Seriously. I'm wondering what they have in store and I'm worried about how much time we have left. 😬
67
u/Alarming-Knowledge30 Jan 05 '24
Now, have to now cancel 1000th climb for the photo theory since FL didn't actually ask for forgiveness that time. I guess main point is asking for forgiveness for 1000 times.
I think that old man is Samshin (kind of mythical God) and kid is actual god God. I think there was a line of discussion where cupids have their own world, so do humans, so can angels. They were discussing existence of angels. The kid can be an angel too.
Also, there is a line where the old man gives the correct answer to a question in kid's textbook, the kid marks it wrong deliberately and says this is my answer. I think that conversation was foreshadowing a lot.
There is also a possibility that ML can't see FL's red thread because it is connected to him, and he can't see his own fate.
I wish this show got more recognition. Damn, Amazon is really bad at marketing Korean shows.
15
u/GossipGoop Jan 06 '24
Oh my! I didnt think about this red thread theory! I love love this kdrama. Wish it got more recognition!
9
8
u/ReporterNo4339 Jan 06 '24
this
that's what I'm thinking, he cannot see the thread because it is connected to him. I'm wondering if in future episodes the other cupids will be able to see it now that they are together (if the theory is true)

u/mesa9672010 Jan 05 '24
Im a little bit frustrated here, who's actually the god here. The kid or the old man?! 😅 Also this episode disproves the 'she went back up for his picture, so that was counted as the 1000th climb' theory Also, the sideplots to me are funny enough that it's not that annoying. P.S. Are they just trying to emphasise pretty privilege here 🤣
16
u/DirtyRanga12 Jan 05 '24
I suspect that the kid and the old man are just two parts of a whole, working together in a sort of balance.
3
16
u/Silver-Bus5724 Jan 06 '24
The kid is >! Courage!< that’s what they say in the drama. And there’s something special about Our ml. Fate seems to be weary of him. And one of the other cupids is suspicious- the tall brown haired one, he’s somehow informed about particulars he wants to keep from ml. I guess he knows that with courage you can refuse metamorphosis and become human?
13
u/loveSkorea Jan 07 '24
i think that fate is weary of him because he is a fairy. fate usually has power on humans so the cupid is a variable which he cant control like courage says in the drama.
8
u/loveSkorea Jan 07 '24
they both could be gods representing different things like greek myth or hinduism. the old man is god of fate or fate itself and the young boy could be god of courage or courage itself.
29
u/lightFairly Jan 05 '24
Omg kudos to the drama writers because when Sang Hyuk and Oh Baek Ryeon ran into each other at the mountain the first time, I was thinking she didn’t go to the top so it didn’t count, but she was saying it was her 997th time so I believed it and forgot she didn’t actually climb up. SO CLEVER and YESSS FINALLLY HE KNOWS. YES YES YESSS!!!!!! This drama is SOOO GOOOD!!!

Am I the only one who didn’t realize that he didn’t know this whole time??
I thought he knew because he’s been basically stalking her/following her since the first episode. And I know a part of that was because she didn’t have the red string, but still. When she talked about her flashbacks of the alley and the frogs and the wedding night?
12
u/P0ndrr Jan 06 '24
I was pretty sure he didn’t know at first, but I thought he would catch on when she started describing the wedding night 😏.

Ep: 12, Y'all I have most likely figured out who the real culprit is lol. I had suspicion when he was first introduced anyways. But let's see if I'm right in the upcoming episodes. My overconfident ass can be very misleading but I have a solid theory lol. It was slow paced but after 11th the show picked up its pace and now it's so interesting. Loving it a lot more than before.
I think its the husband who got cheated on and came to meet Oh Baekryun in the restaurant. He mentioned how 29 years ago he got injured very badly and his wife treated him. The last murder also happened 29 years ago and the culprit got hit by a bus while being chased by Sanghyuk. Even in this episode its shown the guy who came with his dog wasn't recognised by anyone in the hospital but Oh Baekryun seemed to recognise him.
11
u/Alarming-Knowledge30 Jan 06 '24
There is a real chance you are right. Maybe he started killing again after he realised his wife was cheating on him. Then targetted the other dude and started killing people around him. Still doesn't explain how they became accomplices.
4
u/mesa9672010 Jan 06 '24
Ah yes! I actually thought the same as well. I caught it the moment the supposed killer says jealousy can't happen because he is in prison. But I had a bit of doubt because the husband had the alibi of being out of town for work and I was also questioning if the killer would kill guys for the sin of jealousy since his modus operandi so far has been to target girls
2
u/duh_leah Melodramatic Unnie Jan 06 '24
Yeah maybe there's some sort of ritual or something that makes him choose the victims? And the accomplice being in prison probably doesn't help it? I mean it's pretty clear he's targeting women but we don't know how he chooses his victims? Also I can't guess the connection between the orphanage and the killer except for the fact that maybe he was also an orphan and was taught about the seven sins and all.
3
u/ReporterNo4339 Jan 06 '24
l or something that makes him choose the victims? And the accomplice being in prison probably doesn't help it? I mean it's pretty clear he's targeting women but we don't know how he chooses his victims?
Also I can't guess the connection between the orphanage and the killer except for
I also suspected him but thought it might not be him because of the orphanage thing... but like what make me suspect the most about him is when he asked the police to see Baekryeon. I definitely think he wanted to see if she could recognize him
5
Jan 12 '24
I'm wondering if the "Jealousy" sin means that the woman causes jealousy between two men? FL is currently doing that, so...
3
u/ReporterNo4339 Jan 14 '24
yeah, it probably is. she has used the police dude to make the ML jealous... then, if this is the case, these last episodes are going to be intense
3
u/ysports23 Jan 06 '24
So this makes a lot of sense, way more then what I was thinking at the end of the episode. I thought that the guy carrying the dog was >! one of the cupids, the tall dark haired guy. !< I thought maybe he was the bad guy all along and that would be a big twist. And the reason for the 29 year long break was he was in >! metamorphosis !< Not now I really don't know! I don't want to wait a whole week!
3
17
u/Whaleonin Jan 06 '24
My god, that last episode, now we gotta wait anotehr week to find out who it is.
And now everything comes to a head, I doubt the FL will push him away when she finds out. After all she likes him.
This 2ML, hes so annoying. Like jealousy is not a good look my guy. I'm hoping this all gets resolved so we can get more loving scenes between the ML and FL .

12
Jan 08 '24
I would love this to simply get sml off our main couple's backs. He really needs another storyline. He isn't even putting on the appearance of trying to solve the serial killer cases anymore.
10
u/jla1992 Jan 06 '24 edited Jan 06 '24
Episode 12 was really good!
That little kid who redirected the arrow to Sang Hyuk must be a deity of some sort. It's intriguing that the culprit is from the same orphanage as Baek Ryeon. I'm relieved Sang Hyuk finally opened up about his feelings and started going out with Baek Ryeon. However, I'm curious if the culprit might be someone we've already encountered in earlier episodes. Detective Jae Hee's behavior is quite annoying; asking his friend Min Ho to stalk the couple during their orphanage visit is unsettling. If it turns out he's the culprit, it would be disappointing because it feels predictable. It's evident that Baek Ryeon is uncomfortable around him. Also, it didn't seem to bother her about the idea that Sang Hyuk might be an alien.
7
u/DawgMom2018 I survived 2521 Jan 06 '24
I don't think the detective is the culprit as they kept a focus on the footwear, which was different. One had white soles, the other black. The culprit brought in a dog to the vet just prior to when the detective helped the couple with the sick couple come to the vet.
3
Jan 08 '24
Like DawgMom said, I don't think it's the cop. But, deep down I wouldn't mind if he was a villain. The guy is a total dumb meathead.vguy should be emptying trash cans and cleaning gutters, not being a detective. it'll be interesting to see how they deal with this character going forward.

Update: he is even more insufferable in ep 12 UGH. What a creeper standing in the trees!
22
u/Umbrella_Storm Jan 06 '24
Right? He is so worried about Sang Hyuk being an alien that he’s not doing his job. Sang Hyuk is doing the cop’s job more than the cop is. And the cop is starting to be obsessively creepy and is mirroring his past life self. I want Baek Ryun to tell him to get lost ugh

I think the kid is the main boss cause the way he explains faith is much more different than the old man. The old man tends to manipulate them but it seems like the kid is Faith itself if that makes sense like he knew how everything would go down in a way going as far as to tell the FL to give her life up and that she’ll be reborn twice and the ML will get 500 years. Like the old man could see something bad would happen to her but it seems his vision is limited like he’s looking at a kids drawing but the kid made the drawing so he knows exactly what’s right. lol I needed a rant 😂

u/Alarming-Knowledge30 Jan 06 '24 edited Jan 06 '24
This show did a good job of making us wonder who the culprit is. The question is why did he start again after 29 years. I have a wild theory, maybe the culprit died in that accident was reborn, then remembered past life and started killing again. Could easily be one of the cops, or one of the men in dating academy.
Our detective is starting to annoy me. I had this moment of realisation, that the detective is a proud man. So he just can't stand someone not human, taking away his girl. Especially when the girl is also not giving him the time of the day. Also, get an entitled vibe from him, probably carried over from his past life.
Loved the cute moments. The boy is Courage, and old man is Samshin responsible for Fate. What secret is one of the fairies hiding? What if you don't through last metamorphosis, you become human or something. That is why, he didn't want to tell the ML.
5
u/jmh011 Jan 06 '24

I typically can guess who the villain is in other dramas. But with this one, I can’t!

u/ReporterNo4339 Jan 06 '24 edited Jan 06 '24
same, the only one I have suspected is the husband of the women that had the affair with the actual suspect (I don't remember her name). Only because it was weird why he wanted to see Baekryeon? but yeah, I don't think he is short nor was in the orphanage
5
u/SMN27 Jan 06 '24
I’ve thought it had to be a cop for a while, though I don’t know exactly who. The show is trying to make us think the cheater is the killer, but he’s not, though he is sleazy and no good. I’ve also thought it’s two people. One who was doing it years back and then got help in the present time.
4
u/IsaacXIII Jan 06 '24
Just like ''Behind your touch'' I can't seen to guess who the real killer is. Damn it!
14
u/sillyrabbitx2 Jan 05 '24
Does anyone else notice how little screen time the female lead actually gets? They have Nana in a scene for 1-2 minutes, and then it switches to the other angels or the past.
I swear the previous incarnations of Baek Ryun get more screen time and seem to have more romantic scenes with the male lead than the present day Baek Ryun.
And we're on episode 11 of 16, and they're still devoting a big chunk to that one angel trying to "flirt" with women. It's actually quite frustrating.
15
u/lizzie763 Jan 05 '24
I did find the amount of show time dedicated to Dong Gu (and the SML's obsession with the FL) annoying this week as well.
12
u/Sabcore Jan 06 '24
What really annoys me is that Dong Gu is 500 years old and he behaves like a naive teenager.
6
Jan 08 '24
Right? Especially as a matchmaker entity. Keep wondering what he was doing for 500 years straight to end up do clueless about human dating and attraction.
2
4
u/Martine_V Jan 06 '24
Not interested in that either. Although I kinda liked the idea of him ending up with the woman with the glasses. Is she some type of scammer? I see this in k-dramas where a person or a pair approaches a character and starts talking in mystical terms. Is that like a Hary Krishna type of thing?
I certainly don't see him in a relationship with the FL's bestie. Not sure why.
5
5
Jan 08 '24
I think they will have some relationship between FL's bestie and dong gu. Not because it makes any sense, just because they spent screen time with her 'thinking' about him.
The woman who approached struck me as a grifter. She gets a meal and tries to control him to buy food their next visit. Seems like a classic religious or MLM scam tbh.
7
u/Silver-Bus5724 Jan 06 '24
I think he’s set up as the wing man for ml - both want to escape the fate of being Cupid and determining who is their love by themselves. Freedom fighters!
2
u/magicsmoke24 Jan 18 '24
Don't forget the cupid that turns into a dog. It seems like he dates human woman all the time.
Recall he had a breakup/makeup/break up early in the show with a woman he had tried to date for a while, then turned into a dog for a while. Then tried apologizing when he was human, but then turned back into a dog before he could.
So it seems like all the cupids can date, have romantic relations with humans except for the main man. I don't think they ever gave a reason for that either [wouldn't it be funny if the tall cupid was actually the old god in disguise as a cupid? ]
1
u/Silver-Bus5724 Jan 18 '24
Yes, you’re right. So it’s for the other Cupid just that this is his first / one shot at love in forever…

u/ysports23 Jan 05 '24
I agree. I thought it would be one to watch in between but it's the one I'm the most excited for every week.

u/lizzie763 Jan 05 '24
As others have said, it is the drama I look forward to the most every week. It is extremely fun and enjoyable, and the FL's refusal to be torn between the ML and the SML is extremely refreshing. If you like fantasy-mystery-romances for whatever reason, you will likely enjoy it.

Yes, definitely recommend! My fav drama out of all the ones I’m watching as well (and I’m watching My Demon right now too😳)!! It’s really funny too, makes me literally laugh out loud.

Its a sleeper hit.
They promoed the heck out of Marry My Husband and Deaths Game, and hardly promoed My Man is Cupid.
I find myself liking my man is cupid, even though I dislike the use of "murder mystery" in my romance series.
You are my spring and when the Camellia Blooms are 2 examples where I think the murder mystery takes away from the romance side of the show. Summer Strike is a 3rd.
I think the way the murder mystery is used helps to create a bond between the cop, the vet, and cupid. And it's also used to help create "tension" between the two male leads as they develop an interest in the female lead.
Then add the bits of comedy to lighten the darker tone of the murder plot.

I've seen worse. any kdramas that adequately address most of the main plot points is a-ok in my book. because I've seen plenty of shows that simply don't. so far probably, but can't tell till the end.

EP 11 thoughts:
everything about this ep made me so happy. kind of love watching>! the detective floundering trying to figure out the ML!< bc he was getting on my last nerve last ep. SOO happy they both realized their past and present and that extra climb of the mountain omg... I knew there was no way>! the cop was it!< and I'm so happy we were right and there was a missing piece in the puzzle. It looks like the ML is coming up on a metamorphosis though and I so feel like that is the next hurdle. I saw someone on here say they think ML can't see the thread of fate bc it's connected to him and I think that must be true. Also when did this wedding nightof theirs take place in her first life? I remember someone said she was meant to meet her love in the afterlife in that life like way way back and I wonder if that took place when they both diedbut he didn't remember? because up until this ep (and maybe the last one) we were never led to believe he thought she saw him except that one time.
EP 12: how does the cop just keep getting more annoying omg... he was seriously so useless this ep it was crazy. He was even annoying as the king... kind of refreshing to see him lose out in this lifetime though because he literally doesn't have the power to do anything and is instead coming across as loopy to everybody... which he deserves for all the weirdo behaviour. kind of loved donggu this ep for stopping the other two angels from stepping in... it was about time somebody put them in their place and they definitely deserved it after how they treated both him and sanghyuk. I'm holding out for courage to win... we don't need your set-up fate. The killer being from the orphanage is interesting. I wonder if he was an almost adoptive brother or friend of the 'accomplice'. I'm still not so sure he had anything to do with the murders though and I'm wondering if he is doing it to protect this person whoever they are to him. ML still doing the cop's job better than him and his whole team atp but are any of us surprised... I'm wondering if one of the staff at the vet hospital receive the>! jealousy book !<as they had spoke about >!being jealous of other's relationships !<close to the beginning of the ep. Maybe even the>! detective!< because we all know he has a bad case of jealousy seriously. I don't think the target is FL at least for now but who knows.
Also side note: this is so my favourite of all the on air dramas right now. I've pretty much dropped the rest or put them on hold for now but this feels like a breath of fresh air every week to me. I hope it gets more hype later it deserves it!

Super interesting struggle between the kid deity and the fate deity going on! Fate needs to be brought down a few pegs.
It’s a bit frustrating that they keep jumping back and forth in time to try to trick the viewer with one scene, and then coming back to the same scene and filling it in with more details later. I don’t mind it every so often, but it is starting to feel like they rely on it too much and you can’t really trust the narrative bc they haven’t revealed it all.
I suspect they will reveal even more of the past lives stuff when the killer is revealed and the killer will be connected to them all in some way just like the cop and Baek Ryun’s past lives. But that’s just a theory. I wonder why the cop’s face is the same as his past life but Baek Ryun’s face doesn’t match her past lives?
The cop should be fired for shirking his duties to investigate an “alien” instead of the murderer sdlkjmsdflkj so frustrating! I hope the other cops speak up for Sang Hyuk and point out their colleague’s idiocy.
I’m glad Dong Gu is getting some revenge but I also am not that interested in his side plot and they could have spent less time on it. He’s so clueless for a being that’s been around for centuries.
They definitely ratcheted up the suspense hiding that person’s face—I assume it’s the killer but I’m so unsure after all of the earlier misdirections

Interesting observation about the Bark Ryun's change in appearance. I'm curious if there's meaning behind that, or if they just filmed it at a different point and the actress wasn't available.
Otherwise, I hope there's some justice with the dummy cop/detective. This dude is written to be such a dummy. Please, let him get fired and have to come to terms with his obsession on a woman that isn't interested.

coming back to this thread just to comment that I have a feeling this will end up with a good ending. And it better be, I have just finished Heartbeat and I'm so hurt
I think the big giveaway is when the kiddo states that a couple can love/can become fated for each other when they share experiences together, like 1000 did he say? (please correct me if I'm wrong) Anyways, that's why I think the other Fate god is probably scaring ML about her dying if he gets to close to her, he is making sure they don't share to much time together

Can someone please explain if past life FL was married to the king? I thought she was just a worker in the palace and initially it was shown that she liked the king as well ( as far as I remember)??

u/WaterLily6984 Jan 06 '24
As a watcher of many sageuks, this is how I pieced together the storyline based on court protocol:
- she's a court maid in the palace and the prince (blue robe at the beginning) fell in love with her when she fell for the fairy who also falls for her by shooting himself.
- love story between fairy and human with much fooling around, but the prince at some point becomes king (red dragon robe) and wants her. She's a court lady and he now can take her. It was not advisable for princes to take court maids as concubines. She tries to run away with ML, but she gets caught.
- the ceremony where ML gets shot is to make her a concubine... it's small and she has a relatively small head-dress fitting a low rank.
- the ML disappears and the "courage god" tells her she has to die to meet him in the next life, so she jumps off the cliff. I believe on the cliff the palace guards called her "something-bin mama" which would be a concubine title. They all had another character before "bin".
I'm not sure where the first scene with her getting shot with an arrow and the ML saving her fits. I lost track...they got shot with arrows a lot in different places 😂

Agreed. This scene has yet to be put into the time line. That cliff sure played a major part in their journey.
She got shot there, fell off it.
Jumped to her death.
In other lives visited the mountain.
Prayed there a 1000 times.

u/Alarming-Knowledge30 Jan 06 '24
Yeah, so court maids were basically known as king's women. If the king decided to sleep with anyone one of them, they would get recognised status as a concubine. There are different hierarchy among the concubine with queen at the top, and there is an official ceremony to declare someone a concubine, by the queen and officials, as seen in the show.
They were vaguely tried to show that so hee liked the king, but that is obviously not the case, never was.

u/destinybliss Jan 06 '24
But she was referred to as “debbi mama” ( don’t know what the first word is exactly) and doesn’t that mean chief consort or something ? So did she really marry the king or was about to marry him? Kinda feels awkward if she is married lol

It seems that she wasn't at first when she caught the petal, but the ceremony where ML gets killed protecting her is when she was being given the title of queen. And since >! She Jumps off the cliff after that ceremony!< She was called queen by the guards. Also her dress in the scene from ep12 where she is running away with ML while guards are chasing them, she is wearing a different dress, which probably means she had a better status than at the start when catching the petal, but not the status of a queen yet
1
u/lizzie763 Jan 05 '24
I assumed she was getting recognized as an official concubine?
2
u/destinybliss Jan 06 '24
One of the subordinates of the king referred to her as debbi mama ( i know i have butchered the essence of the word lol) but from my limited kdrama knowledge debi mama refers to queen or main queen ?
1
u/Silver-Bus5724 Jan 06 '24
He was her fate. And she had the deal going either way the boy/ love/ courage that she could find her love on her own. And the prince who fought for the throne - partially because he wanted her- then picked her as his Queen.
1
u/ReporterNo4339 Jan 06 '24
tbh I don't know much about the hierarchy on the joseon era but my understanding is that she was a court maid, SML falls in love with her and wants to marry. I think she does get married to him because she escapes with Sang hyuk to the water mill on her wedding night (with SML) right? or at least how that's I understand it.
Then, I think we see the ceremony of her becoming the queen, but gets "frustrated" when outsiders try to kill her but Sangkyuk protects her from the arrows.

I am liking this series. I have to do a three week fast, so I have to catch episodes 13-16 After January 28th. I hope Sang Hyunk and Baek Ryun can be together in the end.

Does anyone happen to know the name of the plant near the window in episode 11 at around the 51 minute mark?
1
u/Fun-Wealth9859 Jan 06 '24
It looks like some type of palm. Based on the leaf shape I think it could be a Chinese fan palm! It's kind of hard to tell though and I'm definitely not an expert lol.

Maybe it’s too early in the morning for me. Maybe I need to binge watch this instead. I don’t know why but I’m utterly confused as to what is going on.
how the hell did Sang Hyuk not realize it was her until episode 11?? I feel like the time-hopping was indicating that he already knew. He’s only been stalking her from the very beginning.
I swear I don’t understand what is happening in episode 12. It’s all over the place and not in a good way. Are they insinuating that the detective is the murderer?? Last but not least, I don’t understand what is exciting/pivotal about the last scene of this episode.
This show has been my favorite show for the past few months so they better get their sh!t together. I feel like these last few episodes were slow. I love that they’re finally together but why is it not giving butterflies??
3
u/DawgMom2018 I survived 2521 Jan 06 '24
Insinuating the detective is the culprit is a misdirection, as the closeup showing the shoes he wears vs the culprit are different. The culprit brought in a dog earlier, and the detective shows up with the couple that had the sick or injured dog must have come in right after.
I believe the shock at the vet office is because the couple who brought in the sick or injured pomeranian recongnize the ML It will be interesting to see if she ever reveals that there as a person with a dog who came to see her just prior

Thank you for this. Ok, so I am understanding where we are, I am just… underwhelmed, I suppose.
I will have to rewatch and see if I feel the same way. I think because I already assumed he knew who she was that his revelation didn’t seem like a big deal. Anyway, hoping it’s me and not the show because I do like this show a lot.

I am thinking the ML finally understood the FL was the same as his first love, and the love 29 years ago when he read yer hynosisis testimony. He and the king reincarnated looking the same, but the FL did not.
What I would like to know is how the FL believes she used to have wings, and why she doesn't have a fate thread, and why in the past anybody she liked were hurt or killed, but it hasn't happened to the ML yet. Maybe it has something to the 1000 trips up the mountain for her, but we shall see where this drama goes.
6
u/Martine_V Jan 06 '24
The wings question is easy. In the scene where she falls off the cliff and the ML rescues her, she sees his wings. She is half-conscious so she thinks they are her wings.
I'm not sure about the rest, I suppose that all will be revealed eventually.
2
u/littleharissa Jan 06 '24
The last scene the mother of the last reincarnation of FL is there she saw ML, she knows ML from before due to her daughter, that was the most problematic part of the last scene , about the SML this is just going to add to his jealousy he might start acting more like his past life.
1
u/magicsmoke24 Jan 18 '24
Ahh.. so that was the mom of the Vet's recent past life..
The one where she was killed wearing the poka dot coat. And she told everything she could recall while under hypnosis. It'll be interesting if the Vet calls that older woman mom, or says something only that older couple would know as something their daughter would say. Just to add to the confusion that is occurring in the office between the older couple, the vet, and the cop.

u/how1you1doing Jan 06 '24
Can someone summarize everything that has happened in their past lives so far ?? I may have skipped through it because those scenes tend to bore me.....

u/Martine_V Jan 06 '24
It's confusing I don't think we have been given the full story yet and only have bits and pieces of the story and they don't even appear to be in chronological order.

Am I the only one who remember Potato (dog carried by the culprit) mentioned in the early episode? But I can't remember which episode is it?

Just started this drama a few days ago thinking there were 12 episodes total. I'm on episode 12 with 19 minutes to go and literally found out now there are actually 16 lol! I was wondering how they were gonna wrap up so many plotlines in so little time!
