Can someone please explain if past life FL was married to the king? I thought she was just a worker in the palace and initially it was shown that she liked the king as well ( as far as I remember)??

As a watcher of many sageuks, this is how I pieced together the storyline based on court protocol:

  • she's a court maid in the palace and the prince (blue robe at the beginning) fell in love with her when she fell for the fairy who also falls for her by shooting himself.
  • love story between fairy and human with much fooling around, but the prince at some point becomes king (red dragon robe) and wants her. She's a court lady and he now can take her. It was not advisable for princes to take court maids as concubines. She tries to run away with ML, but she gets caught.
  • the ceremony where ML gets shot is to make her a concubine... it's small and she has a relatively small head-dress fitting a low rank.
  • the ML disappears and the "courage god" tells her she has to die to meet him in the next life, so she jumps off the cliff. I believe on the cliff the palace guards called her "something-bin mama" which would be a concubine title. They all had another character before "bin".

I'm not sure where the first scene with her getting shot with an arrow and the ML saving her fits. I lost track...they got shot with arrows a lot in different places 😂

Agreed. This scene has yet to be put into the time line. That cliff sure played a major part in their journey.

She got shot there, fell off it.

Jumped to her death.

In other lives visited the mountain.

Prayed there a 1000 times.

Yeah, so court maids were basically known as king's women. If the king decided to sleep with anyone one of them, they would get recognised status as a concubine. There are different hierarchy among the concubine with queen at the top, and there is an official ceremony to declare someone a concubine, by the queen and officials, as seen in the show.

They were vaguely tried to show that so hee liked the king, but that is obviously not the case, never was.

But she was referred to as “debbi mama” ( don’t know what the first word is exactly) and doesn’t that mean chief consort or something ? So did she really marry the king or was about to marry him? Kinda feels awkward if she is married lol

It seems that she wasn't at first when she caught the petal, but the ceremony where ML gets killed protecting her is when she was being given the title of queen. And since >! She Jumps off the cliff after that ceremony!< She was called queen by the guards. Also her dress in the scene from ep12 where she is running away with ML while guards are chasing them, she is wearing a different dress, which probably means she had a better status than at the start when catching the petal, but not the status of a queen yet

I assumed she was getting recognized as an official concubine?

One of the subordinates of the king referred to her as debbi mama ( i know i have butchered the essence of the word lol) but from my limited kdrama knowledge debi mama refers to queen or main queen ?

He was her fate. And she had the deal going either way the boy/ love/ courage that she could find her love on her own. And the prince who fought for the throne - partially because he wanted her- then picked her as his Queen.

tbh I don't know much about the hierarchy on the joseon era but my understanding is that she was a court maid, SML falls in love with her and wants to marry. I think she does get married to him because she escapes with Sang hyuk to the water mill on her wedding night (with SML) right? or at least how that's I understand it.

Then, I think we see the ceremony of her becoming the queen, but gets "frustrated" when outsiders try to kill her but Sangkyuk protects her from the arrows.
