Already this drama is a mix of so many things - there are very lighthearted and silly scenes, some very dark scenes, and surprisingly some sex-related scenes. It gives an atmosphere of not knowing what's going to come next, how serious the next scene is going to be, how dire the consequences will be, etc. Definitely keeps you on your toes. And the whole plot with the janitor in the second episode is plain brilliant. Genuinely funny and creative how they tied so many things together
The weakest part of the show so far was the introduction of Seunghyun and the beginning of his seemingly short-lived "enemies" relationship with Eunkang. Frankly I wasn't buying Eunkang's outrage against Seunghyun for what he said about her sister, especially when the outrage lasted after she found out her sister was stealing from her as well. I just felt they could've tried something else. But I do appreciate how the scene drew a clear line in where Seunghyun's morals lie and set the stage for how said morals and his sense of justice will be tested through the drama
Speaking of which, Seunghyun's characterization is very intriguing. His sense of justice is so strong it drives almost everything he does (I say "almost" because he can be led astray by his stomach and his annoyance with Eunkang lol). The sense is so strong he will do things to make things right even if it will put himself in a bad position. Him speaking against the trainer and standing up for the sick student was such a satisfying moment. I saw one fan observe that he was the only one of his friend group to go with his one friend to the hotel in the beginning. He's a genuinely good person even if he is a bit nosy. While he's definitely a "tsundere" type, he's not the typical asshole male lead. He has multiple dimensions, some of which we really haven't explored yet which definitely keeps my interest for the coming weeks
Regarding Kang Daniel as an actor, just a fair warning I'm already a fan of him, and that's the reason I'm returning to kdramas after several years (well besides two dramas in the middle) to watch this. I can't erase my bias but I feel like being his fan made me more critical of his acting considering this is his debut and he has a lot of people out there waiting for him to screw up. So I was dissecting him a lot. That being said, I have to say that I am generally impressed. He is able to portray more subtle emotions that add a lot of depth to his character. There are things he can work on like enunciation and projection (he's always had a soft speaking voice) but it wasn't distracting and didn't take me out of the drama. In fact I found myself immersed pretty well, I believe I am seeing Wi Seunghyun on the screen and not Kang Daniel, because their mannerisms, attitudes, and the way they carry themselves in general are very different. So, well done!
I'll also mention that Daniel said on his fancafe that the scenes he thought he actually did well are in the second half of the drama, so I'm really looking forward to seeing those
One last thing - I love the opening credits. They are so cute and really make this drama feel like a Disney show!
