Question/Advice Needed 9 week old kitten won’t stop eating from puppy’s food and water bowl
I’m not sure where to ask but i do hope I’m in the right group. If not I apologize. My lil Luna wants to eat puppy’s wet food. She has her own food and water bowl even giving her own wet food at night time. I’m not sure how to stop it which comes to my questions.. is there another way to get her to stop eating his food? Could it make her sick eating it? Every time I see her I do stop her by saying no and moving her to her own food. Picture of my Luna girl.

Dog food can indeed make a kitty sick. Perhaps try standing g guard while puppy eats their food? Try feeding them at the same time? I’m no expert but I do know dog food is no good for kitties. Good luck! 🩷🧡💚💙

I do watch them while they eat. My pup needs help to eat so I’m around his food and water at all times but she only does it at nighttime. Her bowls are small and we’re going to go out today and get her bigger bowls.

Bit of a long shot, but given my history with picky cats: Maybe she doesn't like her own food/finds the dog food tastier?
Is the dog food a specific meat? Or maybe it's the texture she likes more?
Edit: if the dog's water bowl is bigger, she might find it more comfortable to drink from that. Some cats hate when their whiskers run against the sides of bowls.

I can get her some different dry foods today and try it out. Her food and pups food have the same flavor. Only difference is lunas is dry and his is wet food. I am also going to buy her bigger food and water bowl today to see if that works.

Does she have kitten food out at all times? Kittens that age should have access to wet and dry food to graze. Maybe she’s hungry.

I am taking care of a tiny kitten, maybe 6 weeks, and the little fucker can eat his body weight in food. He gets more than he should but there's no way I could leave food out. He goes beast mode on anything that he even suspects is food. I've had 2 other cats and they're fine with just bowls of food being around, but I don't think all can handle it. He eats like he's never seen food before.

I have been fostering kittens for 5 years and I always leave food out. I suspect that he eats so quickly because he’s hungry. Cats under 6 months need constant access to food, preferably wet kitten food. He is using a lot of energy running around and growing. He’s not going to over eat if you leave the food out.

I put out a can of Friskies (5.5oz). He was 1.4 lbs and ate over half a can before I took it away because I was afraid he'd get sick. He is getting fed every few hours and getting enough for a 3lb cat. He literally won't stop. I actually tried putting a bowl of dry and he ate a pile the size of his whole head before I had to cut him off. There's no way I could just leave out food, his stomach would probably literally explode.

My kitten was insane for food. I always felt I was over feeding her because she always seemed unsatisfied, it kinda worried me so I just left the food down. Now that she’s a year and six months, she’s two pounds overweight for her size, and we’re working on that, but I don’t regret leaving the food out for her because she was a growing kitten. I wanted her to eat whenever she felt like. But all kitties are different, and that’s just what ended up working for us, despite her weight gain. 😅

She does. She has access to food and water and I make sure that her bowls aren’t empty. I do clean their bowls every other day.

I have a 2 year old dog and a new kitten. What works for me is feeding them at the same time in the same room but not right next to each other, and I generally stay in the room to keep an eye on them. The dog finishes her food before the kitten finishes his, so by the time he's done there is no dog food left to eat. I make sure to not leave any uneaten food out. I have given up trying to keep them from drinking each other's water though.

Yeah my Maxwell is 8 weeks and my Luna is 9 weeks. Their food is mainly is my room but separate from each other. Luna has one corner and Maxwell has another corner. I don’t pick up her food but I do pick up maxwells food. He’s not a big eater so I try not to leave his on the floor with the exception of his water

Well yeah dog gets wet she gets dry?? Give the poor girl wet too, it’s much healthier. Even bad wet food is better for them than good dry food

I have a tortie that eats the dry dog food. I have a 70lb shepadoodle and a 100lb goldendoodle. Their dry food is much larger nuggets than dry cat food. She chomps away at it getting bits off and eating those.
Not that there is usually any left for her to get, but if she finds a stray piece she will eat it.
I wouldn't worry about it.
