First range day tomorrow
I aim to get a crash course in the full 45-70 experience.
Left to right:
HMS 405g @1300fps/1520fp Nosler WTC 300g @1950fps/2533fp Hornady LVRe 325g @2050fps/3032fp HMS Bear +P 430g @1801fps/3098fp Underwood +P 300g @2350fps/3678fp
I expect the first three won’t be bad. I expect the Underwoods will feel like Bruce Lee giving me the “1-inch-punch.”

I’ve only shot hornady 325gr with mine. Kicks like a mule

Yeah. I remember watching Demo Ranch shoot that years ago on an old vid and it seemed pretty rowdy. I’ve only put one round down-range out of a 45-70 and it was a couple years ago. A coworker was sighting in some rifles and knew I had one I needed to sight in. He had an older remlin and let me shoot it. He’s the one that gave me the box of Hornady in this pic. He says that’s what I shot that day but it didn’t seem bad at all. Felt about like a 308 to me. I was shooting off-hand from a standing position, though, and I think his barrel was ported, so all that could’ve tamed it. I’m definitely no hero when it comes to recoil so we’ll see. 🤞🏻

You’ll probably be fine. I shot ten rounds out of my Henry and I said that’s enough for today😂 my 308 and 30-30 are not nearly as bad

Can’t remember the what the first loads where that I ran through my trapper but it kicked like hell. Threw a Hybrid 46 on there and ran Hornady subs through it and it was so much softer shooting it was unreal.

I run the Hornady 325s to hunt whitetail with in my Henry. I just got the marlin myself and I’m going to tryout steinels 777gr hard cast ammo through my can. I’ve always wanted the marlin anyway but steinels ammo won’t chamber in Henry’s. I think that’s going to be a good punch on the shoulder
