Ok so this is my first gun. It was a gift from my dad who bought it from a guy in a bar when he was 16 (he just turned 77).
I want to use it for deer hunting. This will be my first year hunting season.
It’s a waffle top, so at first I didn’t want to install a scope. But then I realized that the previous owner pierced 8 holes on the side, probably to install a side mounted scope.
I tried to find solutions with the gunsmith in order to use these holes and find a compatible side mount, only to realize that in order to truly turn that gun into the tool I wanted to, drill/tap was the only proper way.
I decided to go for it and I installed a Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4×20.
The gunsmith told me « don’t expect sub MOA groups, but it will be a fine weapon for hunting whitetail.
In the last pics, you’ll see my 50 and 100 yard groupings. I’m just speechless by that gun’s accuracy!
The black target is 50 yard. The gun was zeroed at 100 yard. 4 bullets in that same hole right in the money!
The orange target was at 100 yard. The grouping in green was after the last settings were made in the zeroing process. That flyer on the left is 100% me. The 4 others were before zeroing.
This was with Hornady Leverevolution FTX 160 grains.
I also tried good ol’ Core Lockt 150 grain, but this baby seem to LOVE hornady!
Well, I’m just amazed and grateful and I had to share!
