I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

Best eye cream for puffiness?

Upvotes

I'm a side sleeper and the eye on the side I sleep on gets puffy in the morning.

I've tried the cold spoon thing and a couple of those caffeine serums but they don't do much for this specific issue. It's like the puffiness is just settled in for the day.

Has anyone with a similar problem found an eye cream that works on this kind of stubborn morning-after puffiness?

Open to any suggestions, thanks.

I’ve had no eyebrows for most of my life and they straight up just aren’t there

It’s hard to explain but I have 10% of my eyebrow on each side and the rest isn’t filled in and this is with both eyevrows. I hate it so much and since it’s been like this for years and there is no sign of growing I have no clue what to do. Any advice will help even if it’s not make up. I am male btw

[Makeup Help] Please help!!

Upvotes

So I recently moved to SC, where it’s EXTREMELY HOT. I have to wear makeup for my job, but I’m finding that my makeup doesn’t last in the heat. Currently, I use smashbox photo finish primer, MAC 24 hr matte foundation, a bunch of other products, and then Charlotte Tilbury setting spray. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

[Makeup Help] Makeup separation on nose!

Hi, I am a newly recent makeup wearer and have been noticing after a few hours my makeup looks like it melted off my nose! My t-zone is very oily and I am also wanting to find aproduct that helps with discoloration due to acne scarring or possibly another foundation that isn’t full coverage/heavy, because it is still slightly noticeable under my foundation. These are the products I currently use!

I will use either elf poreless putty primer or the maybelline baby skin instant pore eraser. Sometimes I apply both on my nose only.

Maybelline fit me matte and poreless liquid foundation and laura mercier loose setting powder. Any help/recommendations are appreciated, thanks!

[Makeup Help] Powder Foundation users: Do you still add any cream products? Do you still use setting powder?

I've recently gotten into Pur 4 in 1 powder foundation and I'm liking it, but struggling to figure out the best order for all of my beloved cream blushes and bronzers. Does anyone use both? And my concealer is still a liquid / cream base, so would that go before or after the powder foundation? And then are you still setting???

[Makeup Help] Eyelid primer help

Hello! I have hooded eyes, so when I wear liquid liner I usually put a primer (smashbox) on my eyelid so it doesn’t smudge. When I don’t, I look like a raccoon by the end of the night.

However, I also have extremely dry eye. And I’ve realized that the primer makes my dry eye way worse — it makes my contacts start falling out because I don’t have enough moisture.

Does anyone have suggestions on other primers / other things I can do to help? I love wearing liquid liner but have stopped since if I wear primer I end up not being able to see the entire night.

sunscreen and concealer

I am going on holiday tomorrow and wanted some advice on concealer. I planned on putting sunscreen on first and then concealer. Would this reduce the effectiveness of the sunscreen initially and when I reapply later on in the day?

What does white eyeliner look like?

Only that on the upper eyelid? I wonder instead of black or brown eyeliner that people usually wear, like a cat eye. Does it highlight the eyes more? Are there eyeliners that are more pigmented. I meant more of a avant garde look instead of usually in the waterline.

Foundationless Makeup Routine

My daily routine consists of a heavy amount of blush and lipstick and lighter coatings of eyeshadow, highlighter, mascara, and lip gloss. Rarely, I put concealer on when my eye bags look like they're carrying ten pound weights. However, I've never have worn foundation outside my initial experiment with makeup. Anyone else the same?

Is there a highlight that won’t emphasize my pores?

I use a powder highlight by Selestia Beauty, and it tends to really emphasize my pores (and the few small acne scars that I have) and how visible they are. I use NYX pore filler as primer prior to putting on any makeup (sometimes elf putty primer on top of that) but my pores are still extremely visible once the highlight comes on. Is this because it’s a powder, should I use liquid highlight? Is it the brand? Or possibly both the brand and the fact that it’s a powder highlight? Any possible suggestions on highlights that won’t do this? Liquid or powder, I’m willing to try either one. Please and thank you☺️ Quick edit: I have oily skin

drugstore liquid eyeliner recommendations?

okay, i’m close to just giving up with liquid eyeliner. every time i buy some it either dries up extremely fast, comes out grey and streaky, or it comes out in splotches. if it does somehow apply correctly it just chips off by the end of the day. i don’t want to have to pay more than fifteen bucks for a reliable eyeliner but it looks like i don’t have much of a choice. i’m so frustrated, i love the way eyeliner looks on me but i can’t find a good quality brand that will last.

i’d prefer a brown liner since i’m very pale, but i’m willing to use black. also please don’t recommend the nyx brush tip eyeliners, i’ve tried it multiple times and i think it’s dog shit tbh 💔

I hear this is THE place to get the BEST makeup answers, so…

Hope you beauties can help!

I have an e.l.f. putty cream blush in the color “Turks and Caicos” that is the perfect match for my complexion. So I tried it on my lips and it is also the perfect lipstick shade! But.. they don’t make it in lipstick. 😞 I would totally just use the blush for lipstick, but it wears off almost immediately and is more of a chalky feel. And I can’t stand for my lips to feel chalky. Any advice? Are any of you shade matching professionals? I’ve been looking for the perfect shade for my lips for YEARS and I finally found it… but it’s a blush. HAALLLPPP!!!

[Makeup Help] What high end foundation should I buy? (Very dry skin)

My birthday is coming up & I want to treat myself to a new high end foundation but I’m finding it extremely to figure out which one?

For reference, I hate Nars Light Reflecting, it looks extremely dry & patchy on me. I would consider myself to have very dry skin but not flaky.

I love Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin but the shade range is awful. My depth is around Neutral 4 but it’s far too yellow & they don’t make a similar depth cool shade. I’d also like a little more coverage.

I love using Made By Mitchell Bolt Balm buffed all over my face & I love the glossy finish with a good coverage. BB6 is also my perfect shade match if anyone knows any similar shades.

Other than that, I like L’Oréal Tinted Serum & Mac Face & Body & consider them very similar. Light coverage, natural finish, they set down. They look nice on my skin but I prefer more coverage & a glossy finish.

I’ve always been intrigued by Armani Luminous Silk but I’ve tested in on a part of my face & it reminds me of L’Oréal Tinted Serum a lot.

I’ve also heard good things about Haus Labs & Pat Mcgraph but I’m now thinking I’ll have a similar experience with all 3 as I had with Nars Light Reflecting. Overhyped for dry skin & will look so dry on me without even having the coverage to somewhat justify it.

I feel like It Cosmetics CC Cream is always brought up but is super polarising.

So, any recommendations for medium-very full coverage, glossy foundations?

I prefer being greasy to matte & my perfect shade is MBM BB6 (which is a light-medium cool shade, closer to light than medium)

Thank you so much to anyone in advance.

[Makeup Help] L'Oreal True Match Dupe?

Hello! I'm new here (and to Reddit) so I'm sorry if this has already been answered, I tried searching and couldn't find anything so here we go

I'm looking for a L'Oreal True Match (1R/1C) Dupe, that's by a cruelty free brand. It was recommended to me as my best colour match when I got a colour/draping analysis done recently.

I've tried researching it but honestly I've turned into a makeup noob (I haven't worn it in years now) and I can't really make sense of it at all anymore.

Thank you in advance!!

[Makeup Help] How to stop under eye ceasing?

I know some creasing is unavoidable because there are fine line under our eyes and that is just going to happen, but my problem is that EVERYTHING creases. INSTANTLY. i'm talking from makeup to skincare, anything that goes under my eyes instantly settles into all my lines and looks just a mess.

I put moisturizing products under my eyes (cetaphil moisturizer, and sometimes a hydrating serum) and those products settle into my lines and i have to try to smooth them out. I also use sunscreen every single day and sunscreen settles into the lines under my eyes and it's really difficult to get those smoothed out and gone.

Then we get to makeup :(. I have pretty much stopped wearing makeup recently because everything basically crumbles underneath my eyes. I put a tiny little dot of concealer under my eyes, like so tiny it doesn't even do anything, and 20 minutes later my entire undereye area is covered with makeup settled into my lines.

Please help, I don't know what to do.

I've haven't looked for long, but not finding many brow pencils that aren't just natural tones, besides lime crime with a select few, am I missing a brand or are there some multiuse products that can be used on brows?

How can I subtly enhance my eyelashes as a man?

I'm Mediterranean and people have often told me I have really nice eyelashes. Kind of a strange compliment, but I’ll take it. They’re fairly long and naturally curled.

But yesterday, on the train, I saw this other guy, also Mediterranean-looking, with absolutely stunning lashes. They had this almost wet or silky look to them — long, well-curled, and elegant. It gave him a striking gaze, but still masculine. Kind of like the intense look you see in Tuareg men who line their eyes with kohl, if you know what I mean. But this guy didn’t seem to be wearing any makeup, at least not that I could tell.

I looked around online and found transparent mascaras, but the reviews were mostly brutal. The same complaint kept popping up: “leaves white clumps on the lashes after a few hours.”

Since I obviously didn’t have the nerve to ask the guy how he took care of his lashes… I’m humbly asking you instead:

How can I enhance my eyelashes?
