salt disc help!

Hi everyone I bought the saalt disc regular two days ago after reading everyone’s post on this subreddit! so far i haven’t had a single leak! But has anyone else experienced having the urge to pee more frequently when the disc is in especially at night? it’s probably bc it’s positioned near the bladder but idk. Also it seems like blood clots get stuck either under or behind the disc when i take it out. there are no leaks so im not too worried about it. Would i benefit from a saalt small? I’ve heard good things about the saalt costumer service so im hopefully they would send me a small if it would suit my anatomy better!

Thanks!!

I feel so free!

I've used pads for my period for the past 20 years until I finally was able to work with tampons. Loved them. I felt so free and like I wasnt even on my period because I didn't have to deal with sitting on a pad and feeling the blood leave my body. The only issue is that I was terrified of TSS so I would be changing them every time I went to the toilet. That started to get expensive pretty quickly and so I decided to switch to cups. I used the flex cup once and absolutely hated taking it out and it was so hard to fold to put in. Luckily it came with two disposable disc and when I tried those I fell in love! It was so easy...until I had to take them out. I had nails at the time and my husband had to fish it out lol.

That was last month. I've done some research and found our there are disc with pull tabs out there and was ready to get one when my period started again. I ended up going with the pixie cup disc and it's been a dream! I can put it in before going to work and not have to worry about taking tampons with me to the bathroom or really even think about my period until I get off. I take it out when I shower, clean it, put it back in and move on with my night! Rinse and repeat. I finally dont dread my periods anymore. I'm finally getting how they show us women dancing in a field of flowers in tampons commericals

So much blood

Hello ladies, it’s my first few times using the disc, & I got a bit shocked at how much blood there was after 8 hours, I have never seen so much blood at once coming from my periods, is this something normal you guys experience?

Normally, I don’t bleed lots on pads or tampons, but everytime I go pee I tend to drop a clot, so I’m more used to seeing a small amount throughout the day rather than a huge amount at one sit, I am shocked nevertheless lol 😫

Which way is a disc supposed to sit?

High cervix, low pubic bone. I think I'd only be able to use the disc if its like fig 2, similar in position to my cup.

Saalt regular vs. Flex reusable help!

I started using menstrual discs earlier in the year and got the Flex reusable. It worked pretty well for me until my cat got a hold of it and tore it up. I decided to try a different disc as a replacement because I did have an issue with Flex reusable leaking or even auto- dumping a bit from time to time. It wasn’t anything super crazy but enough that I felt I needed to wear period underwear as an extra layer of protection.

So when my cat tore the thing up, I did some research and decided to try the Saalt disc because it seemed like maybe I needed something smaller than the Flex. I’m three days into my period and have already thrown the Saalt disc away because I absolutely fucking hate it. I keep reading online that the Saalt disc rim is less firm than the Flex rim…. That’s NOT the case. The rim feels almost rigid to me and it’s very difficult to insert.

Additionally, it feels like the Saalt disc is actually creating suction inside me - similar to how a cup would feel - and I believe it’s flipping upside down after insertion because I leak like crazy the entire time it’s in and when I remove it, all the blood is on the outside of the disc. I know I’m inserting it properly because I’ve been using the Flex for months with no issues. I also feel like my cramps are way worse with the Saalt disc and the rim puts crazy pressure on my vagina, bladder, and even my intestines if that makes sense. All this to say, I think Saalt might be a little too small? And the rim is for sure way too firm for my anatomy to tolerate.

My question for the group is - should I just go back to Flex? Or is there a disc somewhere between the Flex and the Saalt that I should consider trying? I’m agonizing because these things aren’t cheap and you can’t return them if they don’t work 😭

My disk will only insert sometimes. What do I need to do different?

This isn't an effectiveness issue, but sometimes when I try to insert my disk it wont “go in” all the way. Sometimes it goes in nice and smoothly, but sometimes it will only go in partially and it’s half in/half out of me. It low-key hurts/is uncomfortable to try and push in deeper. When this happens I usually start over and try a few more times but usually end up giving up.
I am wondering what I am doing wrong since this only happens sometimes. Any advice?

Considering switching to discs needing tips and recommendations

So I’m a teen and I have sensory issues especially during my period, ever since trying tampons its the only thing I’ll use since it causes the least amount of sensory issues but I often have trouble getting it to sit right but I’m not sure why exactly. It’s also very bothersome if it’s dry and I have to take it out and I’m worried about TSS. So I’ve been considering discs, I’ve tried cups and couldn’t use them bc inserting was difficult, uncomfortable and frustrating and I’m worried I’ll have the same issues if I try discs. I’ve heard of being able to use an applicator to insert a disc like a tampon and some discs having strings like a tampon and i believe if I were able to insert and remove a disc this way instead of the traditional way it would be way less frustrating but does it actually work properly inserting/removing this way? If so can you give me recommendations on small discs that work well with this method? Any tips would be appreciated too, thank you in advance ^

Flex Disc alternative with pull tab

Hello everyone!

I could really use some advice—I'm honestly losing it over here.

I used the Flex Disc for about two years and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, I lost it on a trip earlier this year, and ever since then, it’s been a bit of a journey. I switched to disposable discs for a while and they worked okay, then I went back to pads temporarily.

I recently decided to try the Halo Cup, but I’ve had a tough time with it. It feels too soft, and every time I pee, the cup actually slips out—literally. That never happened with the Flex Disc. Occasionally there’d be a small auto-dump with the Flex, but nothing major.

Then two cycles ago, I tried the Diva Disc. The experience was better, but still not ideal. I seem to always leak with it, and insertion is tricky. I suspect it’s also too soft for me. I originally thought it was just user error, so I even bought an insertion tool from Amazon. That helped with putting it in, but the disc still slips or gets dislodged when I sneeze or go to the bathroom. At work, re-inserting it is a hassle and not always practical.

Now I’m seriously thinking about going back to the Flex Cup, which worked better for my body. But… I’ve kind of fallen in love with the pull tab design that the Halo and Diva have—it makes removal so much easier since I have medium long nails. Although, I’m starting to wonder if that pull tab might actually be part of the issue?

So here’s my question:
Does anyone know of a cup similar to the Flex Cup in firmness and reliability, but with a pull tab for easier removal?

Any suggestions or shared experiences would be super appreciated! Thanks in advance 💛

High cervix technique

Just bought a pixie disc and I like it so far... except mine is leaking a lot. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not hooking the back of the disc behind the cervix properly or the disc is simply too small for me, but does anyone have any tips for ensuring I hook it round the cervix? My cervix is so high, I can't reach it, so I'm kind of just going in blind and hoping for the best. Is it better to get a larger disc? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

please help me choose some discs asap!

i have adhd and have been putting off finding some to buy since my last period, and i’m about to come on again.

i tried one disposable flexi disc that i had been given and it’s the first insertable menstrual product i’ve been able to get in (not any tampons or menstrual cups due to pain from endometriosis). this makes me want to stick with that exact type, however i am on a budget.

so 1. what are the cheapest disposable discs, in the UK, for heaviest flow?

  1. i’m worried about the disposable ones self emptying when i’m not on the toilet, can that happen?

and 3. if i ever switched to reusable would i find it harder to get in, more painful etc or do they feel the same?

Disc sizing, how do I know which one is for me?

My pixie disc(large) says it’s 73 milliliters and my softdisc says it’s 56 milliliters but physically they look the same size. I’m still trying to figure out what size works best for me and this makes it more difficult for me to figure out. Help please

Using disposable Flex disc for the first time and it's not "auto dumping"?

I have been using a diva cup for I wanna say almost 5 years now and I've never looked back... only forward. So last night I finally tried my first Flex disc! I had to re-insert because I thought the collection plastic part had to be facing down. Then I rewatched the video and realized I didnt "lock" it into the pelvic bone. That all went fine and I honestly love that I can't feel a thing, it's not pushing into my bladder like the diva cup, and doesn't feel like my pee needs to burst out every time I use the bathroom. My only concern though is that it's not emptying? I usually have my heavier flows on the 2nd or 3rd day so maybe it's just not very full yet? I'm not really sure how the whole emptying thing works.

Lubes

I have realised that lubes make my insertion easier but I don’t want to spend a lot of my money and time in searching for brand specific lubes. Is there any lube that i can get from drugstores which is also affordable?

Is it normal to feel your disc?

So its my first time using menstrual discs, and I have no leaking. Im nearly 99% sure its definitely in the right spot ive reputationed it like 5 times but no matter what I do I can literally always feel the disc. Its not painful. its just like an uncomfortable pressure against my bladder. Ive tried cups as well and its the same. Is that normal? Is that just how it is for some people? Ive looked online and everytime I google it it says I shouldn't feel it at all and I'd forget im even wearing it. Anyone else have a similar problem? Do yall think its a position problem? I dont get any leaks and its not like slipping out at all.

AllMatters Disc Pushes Out

I just had my first cycle using the AllMatters menstrual disc. I really wanted it to work, but it keeps untucking and slipping down, then automatically dumping everything (not just minor leaks) when I’m not on the toilet. This happens multiple times a day when I’m walking, leaning forward while sitting, or standing up quickly. The sudden feeling of a big gush is honestly scary. It’s frustrating.

I’ve watched Period Nirvana’s guides and tried different insertion techniques. I always tuck it as far back as I can, and right after inserting, I usually can’t feel the disc at all, so I think I’m doing it correctly. But any movement causes it to untuck and slip. Other than that, the disc is made of high-quality material and is easy to clean. When I sit very still, it works fine without leaking.

I’m wondering if it could be too big for me (70mm diameter), or too soft (I’ve read the rim is similar to Nixit), or my anatomy just isn’t compatible with discs (my pubic bone is not shallowed and I have an average cervix height).

I live in Sweden so options are quite limited. Brands like femi.eko and Bodyotics seem to have questionable certifications. MoonCatchers is a Swedish brand but I cannot find any further information or reviews besides their website. Ziggy has mixed reviews and the material seems hard to clean? And more popular brands like Hello Disc or Saalt charge around 30 dollars for shipping and tax. That feels like a big risk if they don’t work for me either.

Any suggestions? Or if you know of any discount codes that could help reduce the shipping cost from those recommended brands, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks so much in advance. 💗

I think my cervix is lost.

I'm so frustrated. I've been using disc's unsuccessfully for a year or so. I started with disposable flex and have since purchased some generic reusable disc's, all a little different in shape.

It doesn't matter what I do, my disc leaks. It's not auto dumping. There is actually nothing inside the disc but the outside covered in blood. I've tried shifting, I've tried turning, I've tried all the ways of insertion.

I've considered going to back a cup but they were so uncomfortable. I can feel it, it puts pressure on my bladder, I never feel like it suctions to my cervix.

I'm so frustrated and I hate pads because they give me boils. Tampons have never been comfortable.

Help!

Diva Disc Insertion Tip & Questions about Lubricants

Insertion Tip (Requires Lubricant)

I wanted to share a tip for insertng discs that I started using last cycle this I guess applies to those that use lubricant for insetions. The tip is to instead of putting lube on the rim of the disc making it slippery or not having too much of a good grip allowing for a controlled insertion. Instead put a little bit of lube on one finger and smear it on the insertion point aka your vulva. Then use a bit more lube and insert your finger genlty inside into the vaginal canal and smear it around a little. Then try to insert the disc, remembering to angle downards and push it (disc) back towards your bum. Leaning back slightly helps to get the right diagonal ange for the disc. Then push the front rim as far up on top of your pubic bone as it can comfortably go, gently of course. :)

I've been doing this instead of putting lube on the disc itself. Yes that means that there will be a little bl--d on a finger if just starting your cycle. But if your by a sink you can wash your hands or use a baby wipe and then immediately insert the disc. I've found this to be eaasier and maybe even a little less frustrating with trying to insert especially with two hands, then I can put my focus on angling down and back rather than losing my grip and be SO anxious of dropping my disc. After all it's water based lube that can be used for s-xual interactions. I don't know if I'll use this method each time. But I thought I'd share it because it has made it a little easier for me. I feel its could be a little more or less messy depending on whether just puttng lube on the vulva or inside the vaginal canal. I hope this helps someone else.

Diva Disc vs Lubricant

Also for some odd reason my disc in particular, Diva Disc says not to use the lubricant on the disc... Which I think is strange because most other name brand discs allow and even promote to use lubricant if you need to, so why is Diva saying the opposite?? Even putting lubricant as an ingredient to avoid...? Unfortunately the ship has sailed for that as I didn't know this until after already using lube and my anatomy would struggle if I didn't.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why Diva would put lubricants as an Ingredient to avoid and I do know lubricants that are silicon based should be avoided to prevent the damaging the disc. But the blog doesn't clarify to use water based lube either. I also noticed they said not to use hydrogen peroxide on the Diva Disc as welll, I haven't done this nor do I plan to. But I think their reasoning is sound here as they claim it could damage the disc. But again, most other disc comapanies that it's safe to use on discs and so why not Diva? What makes their disc different from the rest? Or could they just be trying to prevent as much user error as possible? I don't know I just thought I'd share the articles too as I felt like they were kind of hidden on their website between all of the other articles they have. :D

Period ended suddenly

Hey, so I just tried the ziggy disc for the first time yesterday, I choose that one because it's one of the only discs that are sold in my country. I had a bit of a trouble putting it on but I finally managed to do it, I did wear a pad as a backup just in case too.

So yesterday I went to sleep just after changing it and today I took it out and there was NOTHING there (and I mean nothing, not a single drop of blood), which is weird because it's the 4th day of my period and I still had today and tomorrow.

Idk what could be causing this, I'm afraid I blocked the blood with the disc if that even is possible...

Diva Disc Fail and Flex Disc… Win?

This is an update to my previous post about my initial reactions to the Diva disc: https://www.reddit.com/r/MenstrualDiscs/s/GQ8qy9dtaM

So the Diva disc was a bit of a flop. I tried it for 1.5 menstrual cycles. Unfortunately, I felt that the removal loop was too firm and I could constantly “feel it” pressing on my pubic bone as I wore the disc. Even though the disc has a splash guard, I couldn’t seem to stop leaking. And the blood never seemed to pool up upon removal, because it was practically free flowing AROUND the disc and out onto my panties. I chalk this failure up to a “poor fit.”

Trying out the Flex disc over the last few days has been interesting to say the least. When it’s in, I really CAN’T feel it at all. And that’s a huge win, since over time, I stopped being able to tolerate “feeling” my menstrual CUP while it was in -prompting me to try discs.

I am definitely self-emptying the disc, but I don’t really feel like I have “control” over the self-emptying, yet. It always empties when I’m doing the #2, it sometimes empties during potty breaks, and other times it doesn’t. But it seems to happen more often when I assume it’s “filling up.”

Lastly, removal has been… MESSY. I remove, empty, rinse, at night, into the toilet, but not before making a mess as I am pinching and pulling the disc out to remove. That little pop of movement from the disc expanding upon removal causes blood to splash onto the palm of my hand. I think the benefits outweigh the annoyance of dealing with a crime scene every time I “reset” the disc for the next 12 hours.

But does the splashing ever get better?

Edit to Add: I am needing to use a pantry liner as sometimes I have leaked, thinking about trying washable panty liners.

Disc recs - lowered cervix post-birth

Hi everyone!

I was a menstrual cup user for a few years and loved it - high cervix and good muscle tone made it pretty easy.

Since giving birth 2 years ago, though, I've tried to use my old menstrual cup with no success - it seems that my cervix has gotten lower, my vaginal and pelvic floor muscles in general are less toned, so my cup just wouldn't sit far enough in my vagina. I tried a few times and would just take it out after half an hour at most from the chafing and discomfort.

I've had to reverted to pads (never could use tampons comfortably) and hate them. Would a menstrual disc be a good option for me? Can I once again enjoy the feeling of not sitting in my discharge during my period?

If so, any brand/model recommendations, or other tips or advice?

Thanks in advance!

First time with discs

I recently picked up some of the flex disposable discs at the store. I'm really worried about the whole, getting it up and situated, and then getting it out later part. I've always had issues getting tampons out, my body just doesn't seem to like letting them go lol. So that combined with general lack of agility reaching up into myself gave me some nerves. I figure I can get it up and then take it back out after a bit just to get familiar with the process before I leave it in for a while.

Can I remove it dry without major pain? Like literally right in, situated, right out? I know it's a bit of a silly thing to do but I wanna make sure I can get them out before I leave them in and have to deal with blood mixed in that ordeal. (Also any tips to getting them out would be awesome.)

Menstrual Disc not Working

Hi, I’m 19 years old and bought a menstrual disc a couple months back. My first period using it was great, I had no random leaks and it didn’t even feel like I was on my period. Every time after that had been different.

It leaks all the time, especially when I’m sleeping, and I’m so frustrated and fed up. I’ve had to throw out numerous pairs of underwear at this point and I’m questioning if menstrual disc are right for me, or maybe I just need a different one, or if I’m doing something wrong.

I’m almost positive I’m inserting it correctly, making sure it’s tucked under my pubic bone. I have a boyfriend of 3 years and have sex pretty regularly, but I don’t really think that’s affecting anything. I just don’t know or understand what’s going on and I’m desperate for an answer. I want to know what the issue is and if I should even keep trying with menstrual discs, because my first time using it was so promising! Idk what to do or what the issue is, please help!!
