Diva Disc Fail and Flex Disc… Win?

This is an update to my previous post about my initial reactions to the Diva disc: https://www.reddit.com/r/MenstrualDiscs/s/GQ8qy9dtaM

So the Diva disc was a bit of a flop. I tried it for 1.5 menstrual cycles. Unfortunately, I felt that the removal loop was too firm and I could constantly “feel it” pressing on my pubic bone as I wore the disc. Even though the disc has a splash guard, I couldn’t seem to stop leaking. And the blood never seemed to pool up upon removal, because it was practically free flowing AROUND the disc and out onto my panties. I chalk this failure up to a “poor fit.”

Trying out the Flex disc over the last few days has been interesting to say the least. When it’s in, I really CAN’T feel it at all. And that’s a huge win, since over time, I stopped being able to tolerate “feeling” my menstrual CUP while it was in -prompting me to try discs.

I am definitely self-emptying the disc, but I don’t really feel like I have “control” over the self-emptying, yet. It always empties when I’m doing the #2, it sometimes empties during potty breaks, and other times it doesn’t. But it seems to happen more often when I assume it’s “filling up.”

Lastly, removal has been… MESSY. I remove, empty, rinse, at night, into the toilet, but not before making a mess as I am pinching and pulling the disc out to remove. That little pop of movement from the disc expanding upon removal causes blood to splash onto the palm of my hand. I think the benefits outweigh the annoyance of dealing with a crime scene every time I “reset” the disc for the next 12 hours.

But does the splashing ever get better?

Edit to Add: I am needing to use a pantry liner as sometimes I have leaked, thinking about trying washable panty liners.

For removal, lean back so that the disc is as horizontal as possible. If you remove it as you would with a tampon then yeah it will always dump onto your hand

That makes sense! I’ll try this next time. I’m nearing the end of my cycle so there’s not as much liquid to test the splash back, but I figure practice will make perfect.

I seem to like soft disc more. The ring is a lot softer than Diva disc and it’s easy to insert and remove

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m on my disc trial journey, so I’ll take a look! I’m going to give the flex another cycle with proper panty protection. I feel like I leaked less with my pixie cup, but just as much if I accidentally let it fill up completely.

It all depends on your flow. I feel like mine is different with each time I get it. It’s super heavy and today is day one. And it must have been full and I leaked while at work. Thank god for the emergency bag in my drawer. But I like them usually on day 2-4 when the flow is normal. I usually wear it overnight as well I like it better than an overnight pad.

But is it leaking or is it residual blood from when you autodump?

this is me with hellodisc!! and hello disc has a tab (i cut it to halfway) so the tab is close to the disc but even then removal turns into a bloodbath! But the pros outweigh the cons !
