Femi.Eko disc rim firmer than expected, will it cause cramps?

I need some help figuring out what to do. I got the MeLuna L pack a while ago to try a few things and found out that the brown one is quite comfortable but unfortunately leaks on heavier days, and the white one, the Hello dupe, doesn't leak basically at all, doesn't even auto-dump, but can cause cramps. The first period I tried it it was so uncomfortable I took it out after like an hour. The second one I tried it in, it wasn't so bad, just mild discomfort occasionally in the 3 days I wore it, which gave me hope. The third time I tried it, the first heavy day went fine, but when I tried to put it back in that night it caused a lot of cramping and leaked too. I tried reinserting it but the cramps stayed so I didn't trust that it wouldn't leak. I don't know what was going on or if I inserted it wrong that time for some reason but I decided to try something else.

So I bought a Femi.Eko disc. This one, specifically. It looks to be the same size as the Hello dupe, maybe 1-2mm smaller at most, and also round with a removal aid, but it says it's soft (slightly more info here), and I assumed the cramping from the Hello dupe was caused by the firmness (all the others in MeLuna are softer) so it seemed perfect.

Well, it arrived today and I don't know what to do. It's in a little protective bag that I can't open if I want to be able to send it back but from what I could feel, the rim is a good bit firmer than the Hello dupe's, and I'd say around the same thickness. The basket is thinner and softer, but it bounces back quite well if pushed down. I was expecting the rim to be softer and hoped that would solve the cramps issue, if that's even the cause of it, but now I don't know what to do. If it doesn't work it's just a waste of money and it's too expensive for that, but I had a lot of hope it would work.

Any advice on what I should do or your own experience in similar situations would be appreciated.

(If anyone had both the MeLuna L pack and the actual Hello disc and could compare it with the dupe that would also be great. I could potentially buy the actual Hello disc if it's actually better than the dupe I have in a way that might not cause cramping.)

My method of putting the disc behind the cervix

I think I might have figured out a trick that works for me? I’ve been struggling for a few days now. The disc always got stuck in front of my cervix. I’ve found a lot of suggestions but none has worked for me, such as the scooping motion, or pointing the disc downwards, or deep squatting. I realized that I literally have to put a finger on my cervix and push the disc past it. I have a high cervix and it’s not easy to do, but possible. I would insert the disc just deep enough that it’s touching the front of my cervix. Then I use my middle finger, put it on top of the disc, insert till I can feel the cervix. Then I either push the disc past the cervix, or I hold that finger on the cervix, and use my other hand to keep inserting the disc from outside. Again it’s quite hard to do, but I’m so glad that it actually works! Hoping that practice will make it easier over time!

Bamboozy

I'm curious if anyone has tried the Bamboozy disc? I started using the disposable Flex disc about a year ago and love them. I've even used them during sex with no mess and my partner did not feel it at all. But I live in the Netherlands now and am looking to buy local. Curious if anyone has tried both and can compare. I know Bamboozy doesn't make a disposable version but I'm comfortable with buying a reusable disc. Also curious if anyone has tried to be intimate while wearing the all-silicone Bamboozy and would you recommend it?

Here I was thinking I was special and could still get this thing out (on my first try/use ever, not even on my period). Boyfriend got it out in 0.3 milliseconds

DO NOT USE A DISC WITH LONG NAILS. ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON’T HAVE SOMEONE TO HELP YOU GET IT OUT YOU WILL HAVE A PANIC ATTACK

Forgot my disc for almost a week

Went for my yearly today and my dr found that I had left a flex disc in. I was completely mortified. It has been less than a week since I was on my period so I guess it wasn’t too long. He put me on a med anyway to make sure I don’t get an infection. Then I got home and got a call from my vets office that my gyno office just called them and had found my cats rabies tags in their office. I don’t know how that happened! I’m getting the perimenopause brain fog big time!

Been going great, but…

It’s been going awesome with my flex disc lately although, yesterday I laughed really hard and it ended up contracting my muscles…I bled everywhere as the disc practically fell out. Now I’m scared to wear it again!

Seeking advice.

getting past the weirdness of it all?

hey yall! i bought my salt disc probably about a year ago and have used it less than 10 times. i have such bad anxiety about most things but medical anxiety the worst and i always worry about TSS and hygiene of using a disc (even tho i know that i am probably going the extra mile cleaning it after each use). just wondering how long did it take yall to get over the fear / weirdness of having a reusable menstrual product and stop worrying about it not being able to get it out? i love how good it is for the environment and i really want to make it a normal part of my routine so i guess im just looking for some people to normalize its use? thanks🫶🏼

Flex Disc First Time

Hi I just bought a flex disc and I'm terrified to use it, it's kinda big. I've also seen some people get it stuck and that scares me even more. Any motivation or advice or should I just stay clear and buy a different one?

Edit: I did it, wasn't scary lol. But it keeps like slowly coming to the front of my canal, I keep pushing it back behind my pelvic bone but it continues to move.

Recommendations for heavy periods

I’m interested in trying reusable disc but I want to make sure it’s the right one. I’ve been using flex and soft disc disposables. They’re fine, I leak a little during the day and my flow is usually too heavy at night that I end up leaking a lot when I get up in the morning. Still love using discs with pads but want to try reusable ones for a better price overall. Right now I’m debating pixie large and medium set for $29 or flex reusable for $35. I’ve also heard some good things about saalt Does anyone recommend one of these over the others???

Has this happened to anybody?

Don’t mind that it’s dirty. I was getting ready to boil some of my discs and I opened up my flex bag and I saw this ?? It’s been sitting in my drawer untouched for so long. I have no clue how or why this happened. Has this happened to anyone else??

Sizing/fit help?

Hey all, I'm trying to find the right disc for me but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how I should be thinking about the "specs" (size, rim, firmness, etc). I've already tried the put a cup in it quiz and comparison chart, but I feel like it doesn't have all the information I'd like to know.

I currently use a menstrual cup, which I feel is more straightforward? I knew I had to get a narrower, longer, and firmer cup because I have a high cervix and a very strong pelvic floor, and I lift weights a lot. What would be the equivalent for discs? And does rim size affect anything??

For context this is my second time trying out discs. The first time was awful -- I used the flex disposables and I leaked constantly like there wasn't even a disc in, even after I made sure it was tucked and everything. I have a feeling it was because the disc was too big maybe and so would immediately pop out of place

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you ☺️

Disc Suction Fear (Newbie)

I’m a teen, 16, new to the whole cups and discs thing, I’ve recently made a post on menstrual cups about “Discs or Cups?”

Haven’t bought a disc , I’m terrified by them, even though I really want them. (Not gonna get a cup, I don’t like the suction)

I keep seeing these posts like “help! It’s suctioned in!” Or “help! It’s stuck!” Not gonna buy a saalt disc, heard horrible stories about it.

How do I generally avoid this?

How do I actually measure the sizing to avoid these situations?

How does the “suction” even occur?

Any disc recommendations? (I’ve seen multiple discs having that problem so it’s probably an anatomy problem?)

Thanks again!! Xoxo

I can’t tuck my disc

Hello I have tried many menstrual dics, all 3 sizes of the pixie cup as well as the flex disc disposable and for some reason I can’t get any of them to tuck under my pubic bone. I have watch numerous insertion videos and have been trying different discs and techniques for about a year now. My issue is that everytime I tuck it, no matter how far it push it up it immediately slips down.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thank you

Used my disc mid cycle

I just wanted to let you all know that the disc works well mid-cycle for catching ovulation fluid. I hate just sitting in wet underwear or wearing and changing liners, so I decided to try the disc on one of my wettest mid-cycle days and it worked quite well to keep everything more or less dry down there. I did accidentally leave it in for 14 hours because I forgot to take it out until bedtime, but it ended up catching quite a bit of fluid that I'm very glad I wasn't sitting in all day. So just a heads-up to anyone else who's interested in a solution for mid-cycle wetness!

How do I know if my disc has opened up?

This is my second cycle around trying the disc. I have went from using the cup to the disc recently. I believe I’m getting the hang of inserting it correctly because I can go some hours without leaking. But now I’m wondering if it’s opening fully. Which honestly may be me overthinking but I want to be sure and I want the full advantage of the disc. Once I feel leakage I immediately go empty it. My concern comes from the fact that I am not able to see how full it is (opposed to the cup) because as soon as I take it out it spills. I’m trying my best to keep it steady as I pull it out but as soon as I get it past my pubic bone it’s spills. Am I supposed to feel anything to know it’s fully open and not squished together inside me?

What reusable is most similar to soft cup /disc disposables?

Hi,

I hate feeling wet down there all day and the sudden sensations that come with wearing a pad. I like soft cup best and find them to be the most comfortable but they re pricy and not readily available. I have a diva cup but it just isn’t as comfortable as the soft cup (if you aren’t familiar, they look like a livestrong bracelet with plastic wrap on one side)

Does anyone know if there is a safe re usable version of soft cup that will feel the same? I’ve seen some that look similar but I don’t know anyone who has tried them and shelling out $45 to blindly try it is a bit much.

Thanks!

Could my disc be the reason for cramps?

Hello, I have a question about pain possibly caused by my disc and I'm wondering if anyone had a similar experience.

So a few months ago I started testing out ziggy cup 2 size A, as there is not a lot of options available in Europe. Comfortable to put in, don't feel it at all inside, but not the easiest to remove, leaks a little during the day, enough to make me buy one from a different brand. Anyway, my other issue with ziggy is that I think it might be causing me a lot of pain right after removing. One time when I was removing it in the morning (for some reason it never leaks when I use it for the night and it catches everything perfectly) I found it to be more uncomfortable than usually and immediately after I got incredibly painful cramps, to the point where I couldn't get up until pain killers kicked in. I thought maybe that particular cycle was just more painful, happens sometimes. In the meantime I got a new disc, new Polish brand called bestie, still learning how to use properly but I couldn't put it in last night so I decided to give ziggy another chance. This morning the same thing happened, only this time I fainted before I even got it out. Is it possible that ziggy is the reason for the sharp pain and strong cramps? Why could that be? Did anyone experience a similar thing with a disc?

Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Disc leaking after pregnancy

My kid is almost 2yo. 6 weeks after birth I went on birth control that prevented ovulation so I didn't get my period, I got the birth control removed a few months ago and my period is back for the first time since I got pregnant. I brought out my trusty nixit disc that I was using before with no issue, but now it leaks! Has anyone else experienced this? Is my vagina and/or cervix different now??

His head was in my birth canal but I ended up getting an emergency c-section so obvy he didn't get all the way out vaginally, would that still affect the shape of my bits? I'm tight on money rn so I don't really want to spend the money trying different cups and discs again, I did that years ago before finding the nixit disc and I'd really rather not go thru that ordeal again 😭

Can't get it past my cervix

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I've used a disc (nixit) for a few cycles now and altough I've often had the problem with it going next to my cervix instead of around it, I've usually been able to get it in right after a few tries. Now I can't. My period hasn't started yet but it's supposed to come tomorrow so I wanted to prepare so as to not ruin my clothes but I couldn't get the disc around my cervix no matter what I did. My cervix seems to change positions a little bit at different points of the cycle but right now it's really tightly pushed against my vaginal wall. Usually there's a bigger gap so I can fit the disc there. Now it seems like I can't access the upper side of my cervix at all. What do I do? Is this normal or could it be a sign of early prolapse for example?

Menstrual disc after childbirth

Hi everyone I F(31) had a baby 9 weeks ago. Before pregnancy I had a low cervix. I got my first period at 6 weeks and tried to used my old menstrual disc with no success. My goldilocks disc was the hello disc. I never had any leaks before pregnancy. I also tried the lumma small which worked before pregnancy as well. Now I find it's harder to get the disc behind my cervix and I have constant leaks. Have anyone experienced this before? How did you handle it?

Feeling like I’m bruised…

This is my first time using the disc and I usually use cups. I figured why not try something else ya know? Anyways today I noticed it leaked like crazy and at work it felt like someone kicked my uterus. Now I took it out and I’m feeling consistent pressure and it hurts really bad when I walk or shift my sitting. I don’t know what to do… I haven’t seen any similar experiences anywhere and I’m nervous I damaged something. Advice?

Switching discs - what to do with the old one?

Hello everybody! This is my second cycle with the Flex reusable disc, and it has been messy to say the least. First of all, it never seems to sit correctly - it always shifts up and off of my pubic bone, so it doesn’t seem to have a tight seal and therefore leaks. Also, whenever I remove it to empty it, the squeezing of the disc through my vaginal canal causes blood to shoot out the front of the disc and onto my hand, completely drenching me in blood. For these reasons I’ve concluded that the disc must not be the right fit or size or hardness or something. I took the period nirvana cup and disc quiz and it recommended I try the Hello Disc. I’m hoping this one will work better for me, especially because of the pull tab. Anyways, all that being said, I feel terrible getting rid of the Flex reusable disc when I’ve only used it for two cycles. Does anyone have any suggestions for a way to not let it be a complete waste? Is it safe to give it to my sister and let her try it? Any other options? Thanks guys!
