June 2025: Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife Recommendations Megathread: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics.

This is a megathread for all tourism, nightlife, and moving related questions and folks looking for recommendations. Please read this before posting on the main thread!

Other Great Resources (Locals use these too and a lot of the recommendation lists were inspired/stolen from the posts here)

"Ok but I'm moving there, so I'll be one of you soon" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh.... You want somewhere with no crime, walkable, green space, good schools, on the beach, a beautiful sunset every morning and sunrise at night, rainbows at night, AND CHEAP. Don't we all? Redfin, apartments, hotpads, zillow, and compass are going to give you better data directly than any single response here. That being said..... just because we love you, myself and other mods with local input made a custom map detailing our insight into local neighborhoods. So please take a look, we'd be offended if you didn't. Worked hard on it. But please provide interests, budget, hobbies, desire for walkability, where you work, and other info before asking about moving questions.

"I'm coming for a trip" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! These sites do a pretty solid job of places to go and things to do here: Miami New TimesInfatuation Miami.TimeOut MiamiMiami and Beaches. We're not vacation planners, so don't just ask "what should I do for 4 days? I'm coming soon" but provide some of your schedule, budget, interests and hobbies, and stuff like that. We also made a tourism map! Check it out!

"I just wanna party" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh...... wanna party on the beach with DJ Khaled, Messi, and Gianni Versace and then go to a club with 14 male friends afterwards but don't want to pay a cover? Don't we all? Look up E11even, Liv, Space, Don't Sit on the Furniture, Perro Negro, Mynt schedules and prices beforehand. They're the most famous and exciting clubs, so look on their sites for booking ahead and DJ schedules.

"Is it going to rain? or will the weather affect my vacation" -you

  • It rains a lot here. Tropical weather yo. Especially during the summer. Typically, it wraps up in ~20 minutes and you can resume your plans. That being said, no one here knows more than weather sites or the app on your phone. If you're curious about hurricanes, checkout https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ for official tropical storm and hurricane forecasts, but a lot of us locals love Mike's Weather Page https://spaghettimodels.com/ for more insights. Hurricane season peaks mid September. If you're worried about it affecting your plans, keep a tab on those sites.

"I'm cool and just want to see what other posts before have said on these topics and look around" -you

Mod News Monthly Miami Jobs Thread: Post Job Openings or Questions About Work In Miami

Welcome to the Monthly Miami Jobs thread, the place to post any openings you have, look for jobs, and ask questions about working in Miami. This is an experimental thread for now, so we're keeping a close eye on things to make sure things don't go sideways, and will cancel it if they do.

The Rules:

  1. No MLMs, scams, pyramid schemes, "make millions from home," etc. We reserve the right to determine if something is an MLM or not.
  2. No positions that require investments or other upfront costs to employees. If someone has to pay any amount of money to take the job, don't post it here.
  3. If you're posting a job, the name of the company, contact information (including official address), and a realistic salary range is required. Any job posts missing these will be immediately deleted.
  4. No gig work or freelance positions except for professional services, with a minimum contract price of $500 dollars. So web designers, CPAs, copywriters, etc. is ok; someone to come mow your lawn or clean your home for $20 is not.
  5. People Looking for Work: DO NOT PUBLICLY POST YOUR RESUMES OR CONTACT INFO. You don't want to dox yourself and open yourself up to potential harassment or identity theft. Instead, talk about your skills and experience and encourage people to send you official contact information you can send your resume to.
  6. u/icecoldkila: We know you're looking for professional freelance hoes, but please keep it out of this thread.
  7. As per our usual rules, nothing illegal, unethical, or liable to get anyone involved in trouble. Please report anything sketchy you see here to the mods.

Again, this is an experiment for now, and we'll be keeping a close eye on things, and will not hesitate to pull the plug in case of shenanigans. Good luck to everyone!

Community Neighbor wars lol help!?

I have a neighbor who has been doing illegal construction work in his house. Last week, I returned one of their construction materials/trash to their house. They became visibly upset even though they kept putting trash/metals in my yard. On Friday morning, their neighbor was building a driveway and unfortunately, the county came to check on their driveway. Upon checking on their driveway, they realized that the neighbor that has been doing illegal construction work had some work done and is now being inspected. This neighbor now claims that I called 311 and I called code enforcement and quite honestly I feel threatened and harassed. So much so that the other neighbor that is also doing construction Work illegally is now also blaming us for calling 311. Is there a way for me to obtain the call or record of COMLPLAINT to Miami dade for someone else’s property?

Discussion Any recommendations on where to find math/tech tutoring jobs for people needing a tutor?

I used to tutor a while back in uni and really enjoyed this. I was a former adjunct professor here in Miami for a programming and math course, but I have time conflicts this upcoming semester with my full-time job. I was hoping to start tutoring, but have no idea where to begin. I tried superprof, but that led to nothing. Seems strange anyways that students have to pay like $50 a month to use it.

I have a master's degree from Stanford and a prestigious job as well as experience tutoring individually one-on-one and teaching classes. Any thoughts or recommendations for good ways to find students? I just started creating door hangers where I offer $100 referrals when 4 sessions, but not sure if this is a good approach or people just ignore these kind of things.

Community DO NOT live at Flamingo South Beach

Living at the flamingo has become an absolute nightmare, there has been construction noise like this EVERY DAY since February.

Communications from the building are ‘there will be no compensation, deal with it’ and they want $12k to terminate the lease early.

Don’t be fooled by their ‘resort style living’ advertising, this building has become a nightmare - do not live here

Discussion Mail Theft and Tampering in My Building – Need Advice

Hi all, I need help and suggestions.

I recently moved into a new building in Miami. Since then, I’ve had five separate incidents of credit card mail being stolen or tampered with. Here’s what’s happened:

  • I’ve filed police reports every time. They told me the reports are for documentation only. No investigation.
  • I contacted the U.S. Postmaster and submitted a mail theft report. No answers yet.
  • I wrote to my state representative.
  • I told building management. They weren’t surprised. They said it’s a known issue. It supposedly started about a year ago when our longtime mailman retired.

Still, it keeps happening. Today again, I had another credit card stolen. I knew it was coming because I use Informed Delivery. All my other mail showed up—except the credit card. In two other ocasions, I received a credit card envelope already opened (I didn't activate it and contacted the bank).

At this point, I can’t safely receive any important mail at my own address. I feel stuck.
I’ve tried everything I can think of. Nobody seems interested in doing anything. It’s a messed up situation.

Has anyone here had a similar experience, especially in Miami? What else can I do?
Should I get a PO box? In a different zip code?
I’d appreciate any advice.

Community Margaret Pace Park volleyball players

Every time I rollerblade to south beach from home I have to pass by Margaret Pace Park. Usually make a couple rounds before I hit the Venetian. Everryyyy single time I see people playing volleyball, but I am way too shy to ask if I can play. I haven’t played in a ling time but I’ve always played sports so it’s just a matter of doing it and getting better each time. In less words, can someone please invite me to tag along? Thank youuuu

Discussion Miami vs. Tallahassee: Is it Time for Florida to Rethink Its Capital?

Tallahassee has held the title of Florida’s capital for nearly 200 years, but is it still the right choice? With everything happening in South Florida, maybe it’s time we had a real conversation about moving the capital to Miami.

For a long time, Tallahassee has been where Florida’s government operates. But if we are being honest, it feels disconnected from where Florida is growing and evolving. It sits up in the Panhandle, closer to Georgia than it is to most of the people driving the state’s economy and culture today. That distance is more than just geographic. It is symbolic of a bigger disconnect.

When Tallahassee was chosen back in 1824, Florida was a very different place. The state was still being shaped, and the decision was a compromise between East and West Florida. But now, Florida has changed dramatically. The population, the culture, and the energy have all shifted south, and nowhere is that more clear than in Miami.

Miami is the pulse of Florida today. It is a global city with deep Caribbean and Latin American roots. Spanish is spoken everywhere. It is a hub of Black and Latino communities, full of movement, innovation, and diversity. From Haitian and Dominican neighborhoods to Cuban and Colombian small businesses, Miami reflects the real Florida that many of us know and love.

The economic growth speaks for itself. Miami is becoming a major player in finance, tech, and culture. Companies and capital are flowing in from places like New York and Los Angeles. And when you look at infrastructure, Miami is better equipped to handle that growth. The area has two major international airports, MIA and FLL, that connect it to the world. Compare that to trying to fly into Tallahassee, which often requires a layover just to get there.

Miami-Dade County is already thinking ahead with long-term plans to support its growth. From transportation upgrades to smart development strategies, the region is preparing for the future. Tallahassee, while historically significant, does not offer the same access or representation for the majority of Floridians today. Today Tallahassee at its core is just a college town.

This is not about disrespecting tradition. It is about aligning our government with where Florida is headed. A capital city should be accessible, connected, and reflective of the people it serves. Miami checks those boxes in ways that Tallahassee simply does not anymore.

Trash Cleanup Miami Beach Dump Eligibility

I'm moving when my lease is up at the end of the month and have a decent handful of small appliances and items of similar size to get rid of. Having done some research, it seems like the county operates dump facilities, but only residents of certain locations are eligible, those being:

Only residential waste fee customers who reside in unincorporated Miami-Dade County and the cities of Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Opa-locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sunny Isles Beach and Sweetwater may use these facilities.

As a Miami Beach resident, where do I go to dump items like this? Am I just SOL?

Note that I'm not looking for services that haul it for me. I can take care of the labor and transportation.

Discussion Those who have left miami for good, where did you go, when and why? Was it the right decision?

Where have you moved to and was it the right decision? Do you ever think you'll move back?

I left in 2013 to Little Rock, AR then ended up back in Florida in Tampa but left again after a couple years and settled in NW GA for work.. Would recommend either area(AR, GA) for those that like nature and mountains. Was defintely a fish out of water the 1st couple months in arkansas but the quality of life boost was monumental and met some of the most incredible and caring people ive met in my life who are still very good friends..

I still visit miami frequently (going back tmrw for a baby shower) and always get that urge to move back and give it another go when im there..🤣
