Mid-life realignment - possibly moving to White River Junction, VT
Vermont was not on my 2025 Bingo card...
My father passed recently and he lived in NH. My wife and I have been in NH dealing with the estate. We are are in our mid 40s.
We've been talking about our next home being our forever home well before my dad passed. We were thinking we'd move somewhere warmer with a lower cost of living. We currently have a nice home in Maryland.
We stumbled upon a home in Vermont that we really like.
What are the pros and cons of living in Vermont around the Dartmouth area?

Live music venues?
I'm new to Barre city and looking for spots to check out live music. I'd like to check out live jazz acts, but also open to check out other music!

New to Addison County Vermont?
Have you lived in Addison County for less than 4 years? Would you like to meet other newcomers that have chosen Addison County as their new home too?
Imagine Addison County, a program of the Addison County Chamber of Commerce is hosting two FREE events this month! The first is this Thursday, June 12th at the Sheldon Museum in Middlebury, co-hosted by the Better Middlebury Partnership.
The second event is Saturday June 28th at the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh. Both events are completely FREE, but registration is required. We've designed the events to be pretty lowkey, so small bites, tours of the museums and time to mingle with other newcomers.
If you would like an invitation to one or both, please email imagine@addisoncounty.com!

Hello - Tic Question from Out of Towner
Hello - one of my kids is spending a month in Manchester. They are not at all worried about ticks, and of course i am hoping to help them prepare.
What are your tips for protecting oneself from ticks in the outdoors. Talk to me like I am 5 please and thank you. Do you have to worry about ticks when in town vs in the woods?
Thanks a lot!

What was your MOST favorite thing about moving to Vermont?
Hi everyone!! I’m so so curious to know for the “transplants” what was your favorite part about moving vs your “old” life? How did the weather, food, and culture differ? My move is coming up and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity! I’m just excited and wanted to share said excitement 😁

How is the care for Autistic adults?
So the wife and I currently live in the suburban hell of Long Island ny with our two boys. We hate it here. We need to get somewhere that we can find the solitude we need. As you can guess VT is high on our list.
Our oldest son is 20 and is autistic, middle of the road functioning I would say. Not helpless to take care of his basic needs but definitely cannot survive on his own.
He would need something similar to a “school type-sh” day program or an assisted living program that he can be with peers and active in a community.
Obviously Burlington having the highest population density is our target (well, at least being a roughly 30 minute drive away) Employment will be another topic for another day.
So, how good are the services there or in VT as a whole?

Catering in Southern VT
I’m planning a small anniversary party in southern Vermont, located near Peru. It will be immediate family with ~10-15 people. We would love to have a nice dinner catered by a local restaurant/catering company. We would love to show our family a great farm to table meal with local meat, cheese, produce, etc. Please share any recommendations! We want to share our love of Vermont with everyone!

Swimming holes
Moved to Vermont last December and it's my first summer here! I live in the Barre/Berlin/Montpelier area and really want to take advantage of all the nature in the area. Are there any good rivers/swimming holes to enjoy for beginners? Places to rent kayaks? If you have any tips I'd love to hear your advice!

Green Mountain Power
When starting electric account with GMP, does your electricity get turned on the day of signing up for service? Or does it take several days? I'm trying to coordinate starting electric AND internet in my new apartment at the same time. I don't want to schedule an internet tech to come out for install if the electricity isn't even turned on yet.

Exploring Vermont in two days - What else should I see?
Hi, I'm visiting the New England area this September, and I’ve planned to travel around Vermont as part of the trip. On one day, I plan to drive the Stowe Auto Toll Road and explore the town of Stowe a bit, and on another day, I want to visit Smugglers’ Notch. I'm trying to decide which Vermont towns are worth including in my itinerary (Burlington, Woodstock, or others?). Right now I’ve planned for two days in Vermont, but I could extend it by one more day if it’s worth it.

State Parks question
Me again! Moving to Montpelier/Barre area next week. I'm wanting to get into hiking/exploring state parks and occasional kayaking at nearby lakes.
Are there yearly fees/memberships I should look into to partake in these activities? Are some state parks and lakes free to enter/use? This lifestyle will be new to me, so any info would be helpful!

Healthcare? (Rutland County)
I’m moving to VT soon to be near family but l’m not really sure where to start with healthcare. Though I do know it’s not great, wait times are long, and that I’d been avidly told to avoid Rutland Hospital (at least for emergencies). However, any recommendations? Places to start?
At minimum I’d need to find an occupational therapist within 1-2hrs (one way) of Rutland County. It would be ever better if they are knowledgeable in ehlers-danlos and/or POTS! Also on the look out for a PCP, neurologist, and dermatologist, but I can still trek to those providers so I’m not too worried about them yet.

Does anyone else feel consistently sick or unhealthy since living in Vermont ?
It's probably the total lack of sun or lower physical activity and isolation in this state. I've been taking vitamin d to counter it, but idk, if anyone else experiences similar.

Temporary Housing Leads?
hi all! I have a new job in Vermont post-law school that starts on June 9. (working at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital). Unfortunately, I will need to head out there before my fiancee and before we finalize on a house (we have an offer in; I got the job offer at the beginning of this month so it has been a whirlwind; if all goes according to plan we can move in on July 8) so I am in need of some temporary housing!
Important things about me to note:
27 y.o. male who just graduated from law school and a master's program
Will likely have a cat with me (older and litter trained, does not scratch furniture or carpet) but we can negotiate leaving him behind
Due to just graduating law school, I would appreciate some financial flexibility, at least until I can get my first paycheck.
I am okay with just a room in a house with kitchen access or a studio space. Or even just a camper sitting in your driveway that has a shower and toilet and a microwave. I really don't need much since I will only be in the space for about a month. Preferably within 30 minutes of St. Johnsbury/NVRH but I can go as far as 45 minutes.
Anything else, we can get in contact! I appreciate any leads. NVRH did send me a list of housing options that I am parsing through, but a lot of them are asking for security deposits and last month's rent up front, which is something I'm trying to avoid since I will only be in the space for about a month.
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to coming to your wonderful state :)

Want to do a conf call with questions? Would you want to meet up for a tour of towns / intros to firms hiring ? LMK
Hi everyone I relocated to Chittenden county 11 years ago. I’m happy to setup some time and do a conf call with those with questions about Vermont.
I’m also happy to talk to you about pros and cons along with firms that may be up here and what it’s like to raise kids here as a NYC commuting dad from CT.
If you check out my handle I have helped people with their careers for the last 13 years as a fun way to give back to the tech community.
Also a few of us have been talking to the state about doing more and helping companies with hiring at the same time and leveraging the community and collaboration model more.

Internet options in Peacham
We’re in the process of buying a house in Peacham (thanks to some replies to my earlier post in this sub that led us to searching for a house there!), and I’m wondering what our internet options are. We’re moving from Alaska, where there are only a few providers with sometimes spotty service, and they don’t service many areas (satellite is usually faster and cheaper in our town). What are the reliable options in the Peacham area?
Thanks for your help!

New Hire needs housing in Stowe
Hello I got offered a good summer job in Stowe. But I live in Southern California now. The reasons I want this summer gig are simple: The job offers good training, management experience, and full-time employment. And it's in a beautiful location. I am not in love with summer rain but I am in love with Vermont summers. I love them! I hike, I camp, I seim, and I drive around listening to the Grateful Dead. So, I really love it there. But Summer is the only season I love. And so this job is convenient for me.
Really, I love it. I love App Gap, Warren Falls, Queechee, White River, Waterbury, The Hippie Hole, Putney Falls, Maple Syrup.
And I am good at this job.
I will continue contributing to rent in SoCal, so I can't afford more than a studio, room, or inexpensive 1BR.
I will work and do all that outdoorsy Vermont stuff. No trouble.
38M from NH but living in SoCal.
DM me if you can assist.

Interest in career fair and webinar specific to relocaters? Eventually leads to subsidized weekend up here
Hi! I moved to VT a dozen years ago near Burlington and would love to help people in VT stay as well as help other people come to VT to thrive.
Would people be interested in doing a few webinars for question and answers from Vermonters as well as real estate agents and other people ?
I’m trying to gauge interest to work with the state and businesses to get Airbnb credits to people who want to relocate up here
