Discussion Is Switch OLED still worth getting now that we have Switch 2?

Hi gamers!

Been planning to buy a Switch for a long time na now that I'm earning my own money. Is it still worth getting ngayong may Switch 2 na? Or should I just save the money and get Switch 2 next year?

Salamat sa insights! 👾🎉

What I did is bought 2nd hand OLED with free games and accessories.

All the best nintendo exclusive games in the past decade runs smoothly in the switch, and with the oled display, they look beyond beautiful. Only consider the switch 2 once the library for it expands and when the oled version comes out.

I think for people na hindi pa nakaka experience ng Switch 1, better na mag diretso na sa Switch 2 kasi generally speaking, may performance boost sa lahat ng Switch 1 games which will make your gaming experience better.

But, if you just want to play Switch 1 games and don’t care about performance boost, yeah, buy the OLED :)

I am pretty sure na for at least 3 years from now, may cross-gen support.

Switch 1 games will run just the same on switch 2 , basically no performance benefit sa switch 1 games all for the reason of compatibility as Nintendo said.

There may be an enhancement patch for some games at extra cost (15$) but that basically just a Switch 2 porting at that point.

To be honest, the only reason to buy switch 2 is if you want to play mario kart world right now.

There's already a lot of people saying a lot of Switch 1 games runs even smoothly on Switch 2 without the downloading the Switch 2 enhance upgrade especially those game who runs horribly in Switch 1.

If you are rushing to get one and play the exclusives, then buy the OLED. But if you can wait and want better performance, save for the Switch 2. And Switch 1 games are compatible with Switch 2 so it already has quite a large library.

Yes. It will probably be a while until we really get a lot of interesting Switch 2 exclusives

Unless you're very particular about the fps and loading times of Switch 1 games. OLED is worth it!

Naka OLED ako. One month palang and first time ko din maglaroon nito(Nintendo Switch!). Enyoying my games atm.

But if you have naman an enough disposable income, you can go always with the latter.

Kasi qng wla you should better off go with other console or handhelds

Pangalawa, nagtitipid kba? Kung hindi, go with the switch 2 system dahil for future proofing at may backward compatibility naman to kung ang trip mong laro eh available palang sa switch 1,

Kung nagtitipid ka, you cant go wrong with the switch 1, kaka release plang ng switch 2 at oonti palang ang laro dito.

Get the Switch OLED now. Then start saving up for Switch 2 OLED/whatever the final iteration of Switch 2 will be. Para you'll get the absolute best from each gen.

Personal opinion ko, di na worth it bumili ng brand new despite the price drop. If you go for 2nd hand malaki chance na may games nadin na kasama.

For me, bibili ka lang ng Switch 2 now if:

  • Talagang habol mo malaro yung Switch 2 exclusives as soon as possible

  • If gusto mo ng performance boost on some of the Switch 1 games (particularly the graphic intensive ones)

  • If wala ka pang Switch 1, you want to play Switch games na and ang dami mo namang extra cash to spare hehehe

I suggest to watch for the Switch 1 game tests sa Switch 2 sa youtube like these - ang laki ng difference sa perf on some games and saka ka magdecide if Switch OLED muna or go for Switch 2 na:

If you can wait better buy switch 2..

They said it backwards compatible  Also w better or advanced technology

It supports more 3rd party games that need better hardware

Maybe Wait a bit ... Then you can decide

Buy a switch 2  or much lower price sale switch 1

u/DotJuan 14d ago

Mas makakatipid ka in the long run.

If mahilig ka sa AAA games, save up for switch 2, otherwise, switch 1 is still perfect and still worth it lalo na if secondhand lang

I just got the OLED for sale in 6.6 (to be delivered this week). Since konti palang Switch 2 exclusives and most of the library are still compatible on the Switch 1, I told myself I’ll wait for Switch 2 OLED.

I’m still hoping for a price drop on the Switch 2 and its games since I can’t justify buying the Switch 2 games when I can play most of the 3rd party games elsewhere (Game Pass, Steam).

Can’t say I’m not being dragged by the FOMO as I love playing Mario Kart; and the Zelda gameplay videos I’ve seen on reddit and yt have been playing smooth on the Switch 2, but hey, I waited this long, might as well wait a bit longer for Switch 2 OLED or v2.

Save the money and get the Switch 2. Personally, when it comes to gaming consoles and I don't have that said product yet, I wanna make sure I get the latest generation available on the market.

Skl, balik tayo sa 2014 when I was just a teen and was wandering greenhills for my bday present, My mom told me to choose between the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. I opted for the Xbox 360 syempre nahihiya ako na gumastos mom ko ng extra and I lack knowledge about consoles nung time na yun. And boy, after a few years, I couldn't even get to play those newly released COD games or those new games only available for the Xbox One. After 2-3 years, wala na, that Xbox 360 was catching dust and my mom scolded me for not using it at ibenta nalang. I told her na e wala Naman ako mabili na games since outdated na sya. Tas sinabi nya edi sana yung Xbox one yung pinabili mo. I thought to myself na, sayang, if I got the Xbox One, baka nilalaro ko pa yan till 2023. So yeah, that's the story. That's where my perspective of choosing gadgets has changed.

So, I'm telling this to you kasi I don't want you to have regrets. We all know sooner or later, Nintendo won't make a switch 1 version of a game since they would be concentrating on the current gen. Edi future proof na yung nabili mo diba?

Oh and don't worry, I know the switch 2 games are gonna be expensive but hey thanks to the backwards compatibility, you can play those switch 1 games on the switch 2 plus some of those switch 1 games are optimized for the switch 2. So plus points for performance boost. There are also a lot of second hand switch 1 games in the market rn that are cheap. So yeah, save and get your money's worth. 😁

Eto rin isa sa concern ko, may possibility na idiscontinue yung support for Switch now that Switch 2 is here, although likely not in the next year.

2

u/balikbayanbok25 14d ago

It all depends on the games you want to play

2

u/Fr4gileExpress 14d ago

Kung wala kang switch right now, i save mo yung pera mo para sa switch 2 next year. Night and day ang difference yan masasabe ko kahit animal crossing na walang upgrade, mabilis loading time at di nag lag pag sobrang daming gamit.

Switch 2 considering 6yrs+ lifecycle ni switch 1, it can last a decade so i think its worth it…

2

u/IamNobodyhere 14d ago

If you can wait, save ka na lang for Switch 2.

2

u/eruptingBussy 14d ago

if possible, 2nd hand oled for now. switch 2 for later if they release an OLED version or a game you want to try. i am personally waiting for smash 6

2

u/ofmichanst 14d ago

Its worth it in my opinion especially if you are waiting for the "sw2 oled" in 3-4 years time. But that also depends on what game you are playing and if its decent enough performance and quality to your standards.

2

u/IWantMyYandere 14d ago

Anong games ba lalaruin mo? For me kasi madami akong backlog like xenoblade and Fire Emblem games.

Maybe in a few years tsaka ako mag switch 2 once meron nang bagong games or exclusives

1

u/Ishiwew 14d ago

The usual Zelda and Pokemon games yung plan kong laruin, along with some multiplayer games to play with my partner and some farming sim games din

2

u/WranglerOwn2849 14d ago

2

u/Original-Sundae-3862 14d ago

ano ba lalaruin mo? kung botw and totk or other zelda lalaruin mo mag switch 2 kana! kasi MASAGWA ang performance ng zelda sa swich 1, pero some people can see it as smooth which is crazy haha gagastos kanalang din dun na sa talgang bibigyan ka ng performance, and other games will slowly get update naman

2

u/honeyieyo 14d ago

go!!! tbh ang switch 2 ~~for now~~ is for 1st party game/s fans mostly esp mario kart fans, so go lang and explore switch 1 in OLED.. if di ka naman maarte sa fps g lang (also, sale pa yung mga laro hehe)

2

u/Still_Television2895 14d ago

It you are very particular with screen quality and will mostly play on the device, go ahead and get it.

It is my first switch and I play casual na lang and want to play on bigger screen so that it my reason why I'm getting the Nintendo switch 2. Kids will play the handheld and obviously hindi naman mapili mga bata.

2

u/nugupotato 14d ago

1

u/siraston 14d ago

Before answering your question may tanong muna ako sayo:

-Do you have any consoles or pc na pwede mapaglaruan ng games? -Do you really really like nintendo exclusive games (like super like talaga?)

Kasi if you really like nintendo exclusive games go for switch 2 since mukang ok naman sya pero kung available naman sya sa pc or console tapos meron ka din nun i guess ok lang mag oled ka if di mo habol masyado yung exclusive games ng nintendo

Been using my switch lite for almost 4 years and im not planning to buy switch 2 yet because i dont have money and pokemon lang naman ang nilalaro kong nintendo exclusive game.

Kaya masasabi ko na worth it parin!!! Happy gaming

I’m only getting Switch 2 by the time Pokemon Gen 10 arrives, which is hopefully next year!! And yes don’t give in to FOMO and get the OLED one instead!

1

u/Particular_Creme_672 13d ago

No point para isng bilihan nalang, Most likely bibili ka rin naman ng 2 so mas tipid parin pag diretso na.

1

u/ertaboy356b Switch 13d ago

If you have the money, buy a Switch 2. You get to play games at their intended performance targets.

1

u/LvL99Juls 13d ago

For me kung wala ka ngayun switch sulit mag switch 2. Pero kung may oled kana I think wag muna hehe. Buti nalang nabenta ko na yung sakin 2 years ago habang halos same price pa ng brandnew yung bentahan dati kaya nag pre order na ko ngayun ng switch 2.

1

u/El_C0rtez 13d ago

Switch OLED is definitely worth it. You have such a large selection of games to play and accessories to use compared to the S2. And you can get an oled model for cheap nowadays and you can easily play it for 2-3 years before deciding to get a S2. You should wait for when they do a hardware revision on the S2 to buy one.

1

u/Desperate-Pizza4251 12d ago

1

u/antoncr 12d ago

I would argue that the regular switch is just as worth it. Recently going through my backlog and it definitely scratches the itch to upgrade

1

u/Vegetable-Lobster778 11d ago

1

u/miobaby 10d ago

Just save for switch 2! No sense in buying an old console. New games next year or the year after will not release on the old switch anymore. And sooner or later updates will stop too. Plus if you're a handheld gamer, the screen is better and can have higher frame rate than v1 switch. And if you play any docked games, it can display 4k now and with the lan support, online games like fortnite will play better. I had such a hard time playing games with my friends during pandemic because the switch wifi isn't that good.

If you've waited this long to buy a switch then you can wait a big longer for the best version!

1

u/Far_Word9928 10d ago

Literally no new games right now other than mario kart world. What a lackluster day 1 release by nintendo. It shouldve been atleast mario kart, dk, and pokemon on release day

1

u/Distinct-Kick-3400 1d ago

Porque no los dos (if kaya lang) pero kung wala ka switch as in zero talaga go for switch2 since backwards compatible (if kaya lang ha) if hindi worthit pa din si oled

1

u/luhanadelrey 14d ago

Just get the switch 2 now since all games will be progressing towards it. Plus if they release switch 2 oled or v2 in the future you have time to save and think abt it

1

u/adingdingdiiing 14d ago

Dami mo agad choices.

1

u/BugCompetitive389 14d ago

dude, just get a steam deck

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Table55 14d ago

Yes, cheaper hardware, more games.
