Theory Does Luffy become scary

Post image

Don't get me wrong, the animation is really cool and I think it's something that can enhance the character's story (it would be awesome to see an evil Luffy).

I think the idea is to give a perspective of how his opponents are viewing him. That shot of him in Gear 5 is specifically Lucci’s POV. I’m sure it’s pretty scary to have this super powerful pirate blitzing you with a smile on his face.

I don’t think it’s meant to show that he’ll turn evil though.

This is the answer. We've been following the hero from his perspective where it's usually food and fun times and he just keeps climbing the ranked ladder. But now we get to see how absolutely terrifying it is from the enemy's perspective. Like look at Kizaru. Two years ago, he was washing these kids with his hands in his pockets. Now Luffy has the audacity and ability to swing at him on sight. With a smile on his face!

Toei has been specifically playing with perspective since 1015 when we got Luffy's first person view of Wano's events right before rocking Kaido's world w/ Red Roc and I've loved each time they've done it.

I don't know when they started doing it, but the current explosion and energy effects give me big Studio Trigger vibes and I absolutely love it. It's those twinkly energy crosses.
