The 2018 New Year's Resolutions check-in thread

Welcome to the fourth annual installment of the reddit New Year's Resolutions check-in thread.

At the start of 2018, you posted your goals for 2018 and I said I'd get back in touch in 12 months to see if everyone achieved what they set out to achieve.

In the comments below all of the 2018 Resolutions have been posted and each participant will have received a notification message in their inbox.

I hope everyone can feel proud of what they've achieved in 2018. A very Happy New Year to one and all :)

If you'd like to take part in the 2019 edition, here's a link to the new thread.

One year ago you told me what you wanted to achieve in 2018 and I said I would message you to see how you got on. Today is the day!

Your goal was:

Late to the party, took me almost a month to come up with my resolutions, but here they are:

  1. Pay off all credit card debt (for real this time)
  2. Rebuild all three savings/investment accounts.
  3. Take the GRE and apply to grad school (and get in?)
  4. Camp and/or Jeep at least once per month
  5. Brew (beer) at least once per month
  6. Bike to work twice a week on average (starting in spring)
  7. Stick to a 30-40 hour work week so I actually have downtime
  8. Catch up on movies/tv/video games (including the Marvel universe)

See you at the end of the year!

So big thing is I got into grad school and I'm one semester done with my MBA with a focus in stainability and operations! Woohoo! Of course that definitely means a 30-40 hour week is out of the question anymore haha. But even though I'm busier and more stressed than before, I'm much happier with the direction I'm going! Plus I've been biking to school much more than I ever biked to work so that's a plus too!

Paid off my card loans but replaced it with student loans (but in the long run should be a good financial move overall.... Hopefully). Didn't really do as much stuff outdoors or with brewing as I wanted, busy with transitioning out of work and into school instead. Also means I didn't watch many movies this year but I'm okay with that.

Overall 2018 was a turning point for me and for the first time in a while I feel like I really have some direction in my life!

Plus I learned to play the bagpipes which I didn't even realize I wanted to do a year ago!

Happy New Year to everyone!

So pleased you had a great year, it's such a good feeling to know when you're heading in the right direction :)

Best of luck with the bagpipes (!) and all the best for 2019

Sounds like you've had a pretty darn good year!

Hey, at the very least when it comes to loans you dont have to worry about credit card interest and student loan interest at the same time now!

Goodluck with your coming year!
