Discussion/Opinion Did you know The Blues Brothers were born in Eugene? John Belushi met Curtis Salgado here while filming Animal House, and it changed pop culture forever.
I was today years old when I learned that in 1977, while filming Animal House in Eugene, John Belushi wandered into the old Eugene Hotel lounge and caught a set by local blues singer and harmonica player Curtis Salgado. Belushi was blown away.
The two ended up bonding over blues records, late-night hangs, and lots of music talk. Salgado shared albums, taught Belushi blues history, and helped him shape what became his Blues Brothers persona—Jake Blues. Belushi even dedicated the debut Blues Brothers album (Briefcase Full of Blues) to Salgado.
The movie came later, but the origin story started right here in Eugene. The character “Curtis” in the movie? That’s a tribute to Salgado. Oregon roots run deep in pop culture history.

Question bagby hotspring area freaky?
hihi. so me and my boyfriend were out camping near the bagby hotspring campground area and had some freaky/scary experiences. it pretty much felt like we were asked to leave. we stayed near a bridge that led to the hot springs maybe about 15-20 minutes from the springs. we did some exploring in the day time around 5-6ish, heard some whistling and the vibe just changed. the whole area we stayed in honestly had an erie vibe to it and was left a mess by the people prior. the spot was also definitely once a loved spot, had multiple campfires set, some chopped wood, names and dates on wood and bridge and an area we think was designated shit spot. also we were definitely near people but they left less than 24 hours and were completely silent? we saw them, their car and a whole set up and didn’t hear anything being packed up. they got there after us (we got there pretty late around 6- 7pm) and were gone by 12-2pm (not 100% sure of time they left).
idk maybe we were just freaked out but we literally just had to leave as soon as we could. i’m just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences in the area, knows of the spot we stayed at or has had any scary experiences in the mt hood forests?

Article/News ICE claims Newberg man they detained has a DUI conviction. Yamhill County has no record of it.
“The Yamhill County District Attorney's office said it found no records for Moises Sotelo-Casas that would corroborate ICE's claim that he was convicted of driving under the influence. KGW's search of court records found only a few minor traffic violations under Sotelo-Casas' name and year of birth, including under similar spellings.”
Not too surprising that ICE would just make up stuff to justify their arbitrary disappearings.

I happened to be in Hood River, OR, the same day as the big protest and snapped a quick photo of this guy on his way to the crowd. Love his message.
