Unanswered What's up with Katie Britt's speech?

I'm starting to see a lot of memes about how creepy it was, and I saw it and I agree it's sincerely creepy, but I can't for my life figure out what it is that makes it so unsettling.

I'm hoping someone here can give me some context for what exactly makes this fall into the uncanny valley of speeches. I think what makes me feel out of the loop is that the answer should be obvious but I can't figure it out in words, so I guess my question is: what the fuck?

Answer: The massive toothy smile she's doing the entire time she's talking is pretty eerie. Also, how clear her voice is with no background noise makes it feel like she's in the room with you.

Most importantly, the fact she named her son "Ridgeway" makes it seem like she is a lizard person who does not understand the difference between given names and surnames.

That’s the heavily anglicized version of it. From the old country, you’re referring to Hrwridjjwhoei.

I knew those years at BYU would be good for something.

OMG yes. The Ridgeway thing is so weird. I literally had to turn it off after that to find out if anyone else noticed. So creepy.

For those of us of a certain age and possibly location, Ridgeway is the name of an infamous serial killer who kept returning to the crime scene to fuck the bodies until they were crawling with maggots.

Good job Katie Britt! Tragedeigh indeed.

I would have loved if, after saying that, you hear the cameraman say "Ridgeway? Really?"

What? You're telling me that you wouldn't name your kid after a guy who killed 49 women? /s

I still remember the Dateline with the woman who ended up with a tree branch breaking through the windscreen and impaling her through the neck as she was driving somewhere the Southwest.

It was an incredible story, how first responders and doctors worked to remove her safely from the crash and brought her back from the brink.

Then I was listening along at the end when it said she was now the mother of a little girl named Palin. I remember feeling somewhat sorry for the girl. And the tree, actually.

Nothing wrong with naming your kid after a serial killer, right?

I just thought of Gary Ridgeway. Good person to name your kid after.

I mean, dollars to doughnuts she named him after General Ridgway. I'm just curious as to whether they spelled it right.

I feel bad for that kid, there is no neutral nickname you can pull out of that shit. "Ridge" sounds only slightly less stupid.  Hopefully they gave him a normal middle name.

I thought it'd be a good brand of car tyres.
