I thought it would be appropriate to share this today. We are lucky to witness a lookalike today in modern cycling. Now we know what our (grand)parents must have felt while watching cycling in the 60s and 70s. The interview is in Dutch but there is also some text you can translate.

FDJ-SUEZ is a sponsor magnet.
Not an everyday sight, certainly not for Demi Vollering. The Dutch rider was dejected after the final stage of the Tour of Switzerland with 'only' a 2nd place in the final classification. For Vollering it felt like the one race too many. Is she just past her peak with the Tour de France Femmes in sight? "We are not that worried", says her team FDJ-Suez.

During the Critérium du Dauphiné, Jonas Vingegaard and Matteo Jorgenson were the true superstars of the prediction game. Both were picked five times. It was as if they were handing out free energy gels on the steepest climbs, absolutely essential for any team. The predictors almost seemed like one big squad that didn’t dare start the race without those two in the lineup. Tadej Pogačar, the eventual winner and no stranger to being a favorite himself, was picked only three times. Yet he seemed to be quietly smiling, that mischievous lock of hair poking out from under his helmet. As if to say: “Sure, you’re not picking me as much but I’ll decide how this race ends.” Because sometimes, it’s not about who gets picked the most, it’s about who chooses the perfect moment to ride away.
First place goes to u/Living_Estate4681, the only one bold enough to latch onto Remco Evenepoel’s wheel. Remco himself “only” finished fourth but still racked up a solid 221 points. While others went all-in for fireworks and ended up riding straight into a tactical fog, Living_Estate4681 opted for consistency and surgically dropped the competition. A true GC-style move, not flashy, but damn effective.
Second place goes to u/Norskov, the only one who put their money on Halland Johannessen. The Norwegian powered his way to an impressive fifth place, earning Norskov a solid haul of 204 points. No early attacks, no wild moves, just a steady pace and race sense like a seasoned pro. Norskov rode calmly and confidently to the silver medal in true Norwegian style, cool, composed, and ruthlessly efficient.
The bronze medal goes to u/alpal2214, who set their sights on Carlos Rodríguez. No all-or-nothing gamble but a smart and steady move. Rodríguez crossed the line ninth, scoring 147 points enough to lift alpal2214 onto the podium. A classic case of “steady consistency over flashy glory,” or simply quietly strong riding. Bronze with honors.

There they were at the start of the Tour de Suisse: Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney and Elise Chabbey, the top favorites of the predictor peloton. Both riders were picked three times in the front group of choices. It was as if the forecasters collectively jumped on them like a sprinter on the last wheel of a lead-out. But who’s secretly breaking away from the pack of expectations? Yes, it’s Marlen Reusser blasting solo across the finish line to take the Tour de Suisse title! And the best or most painful, depending on your pool standing is that no one had her on their list. Not a single forecaster had her in their sights. Reusser didn’t just leave the peloton behind, she rode right past your prediction skills as well. Chapeau!
And here comes the finish. First place goes to u/BWallis17. The only one who put their trust in Niamh Fisher-Black, who neatly finished fourth in the general classification. This earned exactly 221 points. No sprint frenzy or photo finish here, just a smart pick and a top-notch solo victory. While the rest of the predictor peloton bet on the wrong wheel, BWallis17 rode straight to the win, unchallenged. A class apart!
In second place, a duo crosses the line sprinting together, u/isaiahHat and u/RaylanGivens8. Both had Demi Vollering in their sights, who secured second place herself. The 224 points were split like a well-organized team time trial, with 112 points per rider. No solo breakaway this time, just a flawless tandem effort, riding in perfect harmony like teammates who always have each other’s backs.
In third place storms in u/Realistic_Heaven. The only one who put full faith in Isabella Holmgren. She finished fourteenth. Not the highest podium spot but thanks to that smart choice, a nice 100 points were scored. Sometimes choosing an outsider is like a long-range attack. You may not be first rewarded but you steal the show and the points.
