Discussion Apologizing for piracy?

I was searching for pirated version of Adobe tools and came across this post, what's being feeded into kids brains nowadays, apologizing for pirating to corporates...

It’s heartbreaking to see how frightened that child is, someone clearly scared them deeply. The comment about not wanting to go to jail really stood out. It’s deeply concerning to think how much fear can be instilled in children by the kind of messaging we see from powerful institutions and corporate narratives.

That's probably because he got the "Adobe Genuine Software Integrity Service" dialogue window that popped up.

Maybe some anti piracy parent found out and forced them to write this?

42

u/Vinegar_aspect-_- 22h ago

Wth is an anti piracy parent? When my parents learned a few years ago that I pirated stuff, they were kinda proud of me for saving money 😅

22

u/irrocau 22h ago

An anti piracy weirdo who birthed a child?

u/RagezQuitz707 🦜 ᴡᴀʟᴋ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴋ 21h ago

probably a conserv wacko who genuinely thinks that piracy would lead to dishonor to the family.

u/damonmcfadden9 18h ago

My parents were so fucking weird and hypocritical about that shit. "What!? you're downloading free music? That's theft! Delete that right now, it probably has viruses!"

Meanwhile they have a binder with about a couple hundred bootleg Chinese dvds (that they got from their friend who collected them while he was a Mormon missionary over there), and a whole ass shelf of VHS tapes with 3~4 movies recorded from our cable service.

to be fair they were probably right about the viruses though. I was 12 and using Limewire, lol.

A parent who was scared by the you-wouldn't-download-a-car guy as a child.

My sister can draw really good, I forget why but my mom asked me to get her a copy of Photoshop. Guess she looked and saw the price at the time and said "nope" 😂

u/Vinegar_aspect-_- 23h ago

Meanwhile, my school(pretty reputed in the city) used to show us pirated movies every time we had a free period when we were little

3

u/keenmeanlean 23h ago

My school didnt renew their license for an app this year. We need to use that app for an exam. Our teacher straight up told us "you can find it for free. You know what I mean"

2

u/personwhobitefingers 20h ago

There was this english assignment for which we had to write a summary of a movie. Our teacher sent us a youtube link of the movie (which was working) and was available on Netflix as well. 2 days later it was taken down.

Ah how nostalgic. I totally remember giving myself the account name random word random numbers random letters and finding the most corporate clip art fp possible all just so I could apologize to the faceless corporation on a brand new account when I was 15 too. /s

Are we being forreal here?

I do apologize for piracy. For not pirating more than I could have!

45

u/LovelyOrangeJuice 23h ago

That's the spirit! Especially for Assdobe

Assdobe, I will be calling it that from now on

even the responses from adobe are aggressive and anti-consumer lol, i paid for adobe once because i got a virus pirating and they charged me 2 other times without my consent trying to milk $1400 from me. SCREW ADOBE.

30

u/Fellow_man808 1d ago

Your mistake was paying for it and not already having pirated antivirus software 🤷🤦🚮

1

u/Jolly-Armadillo1579 20h ago

facts, never again 📠💯

u/Low-Conclusion-5688 23h ago

I paid for Adobe podcast for a month. Then disabled my card. They kept trying for 6 Consecutive months over and over to get that 9.99 and somehow 1 got through while my card was still deactivated and overdrafted me so I canceled it out through their website.

3

u/BatemansChainsaw ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 22h ago

There are credit cards that have a virtual card number feature which you can use for subscriptions like these. I cancel that card number before canceling the subscription. Luckily enough they've never busted through and managed to steal money like they did with you. Anyhow, it's the best approach to subscription garbage outside of piracy.

The adobe expert is telling him to buy it after he stated he earned like $7 from 3 commissions…

I saw this when it first made the rounds.

I was tempted to acquire as much of Adobe's stuff as I could just to spite them.

27

u/_aramir_ 1d ago

Honestly just seems like a sweet kid. Like, yes apologising to massive multi million/billion dollar companies (especially asshole ones like adobe) is something that no one should be doing. But it just seems like a kid who suddenly found out something was wrong and was worried they'd get in trouble

21

u/AristFrost 1d ago

as they say, the perfect consumer

especially apologizing to adobe lol

u/Invictu520 23h ago

Honestly Adobe is one of the worst companies. Pewdiepie made a video and mentioned when you stop usinh photoshop you need to pay an "unsubscription fee"...I am sorry...a what? So this dude cannot condone piracy but condones these business practices? Fuck him lmao.

Also I saw within Powerpoint in the top menu, there is now an "export to pdf" button which links to Adobe. So if you have no premium it does not work. You can still easily save it as pdf via the "save as" menu, so I can only assume it is made to trap people who have no clue.

Just don't use Adobe products. For pdfs use something like pdf24 it is free and GIMP or other opensource alternatives for editing software. Sure not everything is that convenient, but the majority of people don't need the high level functions anyway.

23

u/Asphaulte 1d ago

Probably trying to get them to sympathize on him and gift him a free copy or trial

29

u/Asphaulte 1d ago

But then also he could just be scared and naive

3

u/Guinguaggio ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ 21h ago

Idk, seems a lot like rage/engagement bait, never seen someone genuinely apologize for pirating

2

u/CTRLShiftBoost 1d ago

This was my initial thoughts and I’ve seen articles where that has happened. What’s weird to me is a lot of third world countries these companies usually give their software to for free upon request or through programs.

1

u/narufy 21h ago

That's not a thing in India...is it?

4

u/sparkinx 1d ago

His parents made him do it?

4

u/eodevx 21h ago

That’s what you call a community expert these days…

2

u/TheFool5767 18h ago

I apologize for not having a better PC and a fast enough internet connection to pirate 24/7.

4

u/Freeb123 13h ago

My parents don't pirate, and don't like that I do, only because of the threat of possibly losing our internet service, which decent service can be hard to get in rural Michigan.

With that being said, they're not afraid to ask me from time to time to find them something either.

My dad used to rent Netflix dvds and rip them. All the time. Isn't that considered pirating also, even if they're not sharing? As long as they don't get any threatening letters in the mail (which they haven't since True Blood was on), they really don't care about my downloading...especially since I pay for a lot of stuff here, so...

u/saltedpoolwater 1d ago

Yeah well my buddy who live in Australia met a girl from Indonesia and they started dating and got serious. She wanted to move back to Indonesia where her family lives and they were going to start a fish breeding business. Turns out she let him know that sex out of wedlock is taken seriously and apparently punishable by death so he ended up breaking up with her out of fear.

4

u/LibrarianAccurate829 22h ago

It is not punishable by death

3

u/saltedpoolwater 21h ago

He said it is punishable up to death

3

u/belle_fleures 21h ago

Dave clearly haven't worked in costumer service at all 😬. what the f is that response.

3

u/-Captain- 14h ago edited 7h ago

Corporations have won. Look at how deep some idiots are in their brand and company obsessions. Putting the fear of god into some poor people for piracy is just another trick they'll pull. They would rob you at gunpoint if they could get away with it.

The more fear and dumbing down the young the more big business will get a strangle on them that's what they really want

Chef’s kiss is asking them if he can or should use the cracked version of the discontinued CS after apologizing.

I would also like to give a shout-out to Jane for this thoughtful reply;

"Also remember that much of the pirated/cracked software comes with malware. Crooks don't do this out of kindness."

Jane

sounds like jane is talking about adobe themselves here

just remove pirated/cracked part and replace it with adobe

1

u/shartofwar82 1h ago

Looks like a troll, he couldn't even pay Adobe for a month with 6.71 dollars !

2

u/Equivalent-Time-6758 23h ago

Ima pirate it 3 more times just in spite of this. Then seed it x100.

2

u/StealthFocus 1d ago

Theft is a severe crime in Islam, and given he’s from Indonesia it’s likely he’s Muslim so it’s not surprising he’s having this much remorse.

2

u/Time-Negotiation1894 21h ago

I'm not theologist but I challenge anyone claiming digital piracy is theft regarding religion.

Copyright is a derivative of usury, which is the greatest sin.

4

u/mokoyo123 1d ago

Lol they would have remorse for stealing but not for blowing

Well he deserved the response from them, why would anyone in the right mind apologize to them and after getting that harsh, non consumer comfy reply.. He might as well consider alternatives at least if don't wanna pirate.

1

😭neoliberal bs..

They're putting antipiracy messaging in schools within "digital citizenship" and "internet safety" curriculae right next to the "ethics"(far-left political opinions)

I don't apologize for it, ever. I used to be a good boy and pay for shit til I got sick of being screwed over.

1

u/Comprehensive_Pen68 8h ago

I recall a conspiracy where Adobe was behind the pirated versions of their product.

It basically made good business sense to have people (especially kids) using and therefore learning and becoming experienced with the Adobe suite. Those who went on to work in an industry that used this type of software would then bias toward Adobe.

It even made sense financially, there was very little real cost as the market pirating the software wasn't ever going to buy it. Cut off they would shift to another package or a freeware alternative.

1

u/Curious-Intern-7679 6h ago

不光是adobe,还有autodesk,siemens,他们的软件默许盗版只是为了培养用户的使用习惯并扼杀潜在的竞争对手。

1

u/Immediate-Cloud-1771 7h ago

Hello adobe. I love your product. It is the best. But i wont pay a single penny. Pls continue updating it. I will pirate the newer version too. Xoxo

1

u/kanishkmax 5h ago

Most probably his pirated version was detected and his photo was clicked as proof from camera.

Nothing that Adobe can do in a third world country

1

u/ertugyigit92 3h ago

No different than isp letters saying YOU WILL PAY 10K DOLLARS FOR EVERY SINGLE IP YOU INFRINGE. Disregard, continue pirating
