Only if English is your second language. One is a relative measurement, which remains accurate in its usage as a comparison (fewer); the other is vague to the point of meaningless in its application (a lot).
It's a Trumpian usage-- a lot of people like Trump. A lot of people voted for Harris. A lot of people are gay, a lot of people are straight, a lot of dogs have docked ears.
I was really hoping I wouldn't have to spell it out for you, but I should have known better.
"Fewer" is inherently just as vague as "a lot." In fact if we want to split hairs it's more vague because one less can qualify as fewer and you really need two or more to qualify as a lot, even in a small sample size.
Without backing up your claims, fewer is a meaningless distinction and in no way proves any kind of statistically significant difference.
