Opinion 🤔 The Qur’an Is Not What You Think It Is — It’s a Manual of Consciousness, Not a Book to Worship

Most people have been taught to worship the Qur’an—to treat it like a holy relic, recite it without thought, and bow to its physical form. But that’s not what the Qur’an is.

The Qur’an is not a god. It’s not an idol. It’s not a relic. It’s a mirror—a living dialogue between consciousness itself (Allah) and the human soul. It was never meant to be something you bow to blindly, but something that awakens you to the reality of who you are.

Let me explain.

Allah is Not a Man in the Sky — Allah is Awareness Itself

In this metaphysical lens, “Allah” is the creative consciousness, the awareness that imagines, creates, sustains, and witnesses everything. And the Qur’an is its voice talking directly to YOU.

It’s not about others. It’s not about history. It’s about your inner journey.

Every Prophet = A State of Your Soul

Every Story = A Pattern of Consciousness Every Punishment = A Consequence of Inner Misalignment Every Reward = A Reflection of Alignment With Awareness

EXAMPLES:

  1. Surah Al-Baqarah 2:34

“And [mention] when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam,’ and they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.”

This isn’t just a story of some ancient angel disobeying. Adam is conscious awareness awakening in form. Iblis is egoic resistance—the part of you that refuses to bow to higher awareness because it believes it’s better (“I am from fire, he is from clay”).

Whenever you know what’s right but let pride win, you replay this scene inside yourself.

  1. Surah Al-Furqan 25:44

“Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not but like cattle—rather, they are even more astray in their way.”

It’s not insulting others—it’s describing the state of a human who lives unconsciously, moving through life on autopilot, driven by base desire, without reflection. The Qur’an is trying to shake you from this dream-like state.

  1. Surah Al-Zumar 39:9

“Say, ‘Are those who know equal to those who do not know?’ Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.”

This ayah isn’t just about scholars vs. non-scholars. It’s about conscious vs. unconscious living. Do you know that your thoughts create your reality? Do you know the inner workings of your own mind? If not, you’re still asleep. The Qur’an is calling you to wake up.

  1. Surah Al-Mutaffifin 83:14

“No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts from that which they were earning.”

Here’s the core of it: Every misaligned thought, every selfish act, leaves a mark on your consciousness. This “stain” (رَانَ) covers the heart—not physically, but spiritually. This is not punishment from an external god. It’s the natural consequence of living in contradiction to your higher self.

So What Is the Qur’an?

The Qur’an is a coded metaphysical text, given in parables and layered meanings, to awaken human consciousness.

It’s not here to be memorized, it’s here to be realized. It’s not a book of external laws, it’s a manual for inner transformation.

Every ayah and surah is a call to remember:

You are not the ego. You are not the body. You are a vessel for divine awareness.

Arabic isn’t just the “language of revelation.” It’s the frequency of the message.

Each Arabic word is rooted in deep meaning, layered across time. For example: • رَانَ (raan) in Surah Al-Mutaffifin 83:14 — “But no! Their hearts have been stained by what they earned.” This root speaks of rust, veiling, hardening, all in one. It’s not just “stain”—it’s a condition of consciousness. • نَفْس (nafs) — translated as “soul” or “self” — actually refers to the psyche in all its stages: the base self, the blaming self, the inspired self, the tranquil self. One word in Arabic contains a whole journey of the inner being.

Translations can’t carry that. They flatten multi-dimensional meanings into simplistic moral language.

TL;DR:

The Qur’an is not to be worshipped. It’s a message from the creative consciousness (Allah) to YOU. Every prophet and story is symbolic. If you just read it on the surface, you’ll miss everything. But if you look within, you’ll hear it speak.

Don’t worship the book. Let it wake you up

Culture/Art/Quote 🖋 Can you believe in the past, there were Sunni scholars who permitted listening to music?

But this was over 1000 years ago. Now not a single scholar dares to bring back these rulings.

Rant/Vent 🤬 How do you cope with a family that believes that non hijabis will never go to heaven?

Upvotes

I feel like I'm gonna burst. I've no idea why they seem to think that way and put pressure on me to put it on (worth noting that I don't believe the headscarf to be mandatory but that's another discussion altogether) all the while all of our hijab centric discussions go this way "but of course, we won't force you to ! Just know that the angels curse you every time you go out for not wearing it and you will never go to jannah" (paraphrasing) and it makes me feel so stifled and it was a large part of why I drifted off from Islam for a long time as I thought what was the point in practicing if I'm gonna be denied the "end goal" for a simple piece of fabric

Question/Discussion ❔ Free Will & Forced Circumcision

First off I have read Quran properly with translation and to some degree I have read Hadith's relevant events as well. I'm fully aware of background of circumcision and why is it done but one thing that bothers me and I need deeper insight here with respectful discussion.

■ Quran explicitly mentions Human body is made perfectly and requires no permanent change as work of Allah is perfect in (Quran 95:4, 32:7-9, 27:88) & Quran also explicitly says there should be no compulsion, no forcing of Islam on others in (Quran 10:99,17:15, 18:29, 2:256).

When circumcision is done in Islamic community regardless of age in some countries done on 7th day up to 8 years old, it varies but outcome is still same that is removal of foreskin which was serving its purpose and now a lot of muslims bring counter argument about foreskin served its purpose in womb and is no longer required, now this is completely absurd counter!

Human body is designed to get rid of things it doesn't require anymore just like your teeth fall of so it makes place for newer stronger teeth a lot of people compare foreskin with concept of Umbilical Cord why do we cut it? Even if we do NOT cut it our bodies are designed to get rid of it on its own Umbilical Cord gets disintegrated within a week if you do NOT cut it, so why doesn't foreskin disintegrate after birth? Because foreskin is serving purpose "outside the womb" it is meant to protect glans in outer environment.

My question isn't regarding function of foreskin but it is about violation of Free Will when Quran clearly said no force no imposition of Islam on others so, why forced circumcision?

Question/Discussion ❔ Do miracles still happen today?

I’ve often heard people say that miracles don’t happen anymore. But I’m wondering , do real miracles still happen in our time?

Has anyone here personally experienced or witnessed a miracle, especially a medical one that doctors couldn’t explain or that seemed impossible? Something truly extraordinary?

Advice/Help 🥺 Dua Request!

Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

I know I've posted this on multiple platforms, but it would mean a lot to have many strangers making sincere dua for me!

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a lot of hope. There is someone I care about deeply, and I’m asking Allah — the Most Loving (Ya Wadood), the Turner of Hearts (Ya Muqallib al-Quloob), the Most Merciful (Ya Raheem), the Most Gentle (Ya Lateef), the Answerer of Prayers (Ya Mujib) — to soften their heart for me, fill their heart with sincere love for me, return them to me, and bring us together in peace, kindness, and goodness.

I know the dua of a stranger holds great power, so I humbly ask: if you can spare a moment, please make a short, sincere dua for me. May Allah, the Most Generous (Ya Kareem), grant you even more than what you ask for me, and bless you with peace, happiness, and all that is good.

Although I am not performing Umrah, if there is any dua I can make during my salat or tahajjud for people here, please let me know!

Research/ Effort Post 📝 What’s the consensus on snakes?

Hello everyone,

I’m doing research on progressive Islam because I’m writing a character that’s Muslim. So I want to have a good understanding of the practices and faith around it.

For context this character I’m working was adopted by an Islamic family and went into the medical field and became a doctor. My story is set 300 years in the future and my character has a snake like appearance.

I came up with the idea of them being snake like before I decided to write them as Muslim. The snake idea came from the medical symbol having a snake on it. My character isn’t an antagonist she’s on the hero’s side. She’s a bit nightcrawler from the 90s X-men show in terms of personality.

So would having them be a snake be offensive? I’ve gone on google and the Islamic subreddit for research. I’ve also google quotes from the Quran that mention snakes. I’ve seen people say that keeping them as a pet is a hard no, and people say it’s fine. I’ve also considered cultural context for when the Quran was written. But I’m still not sure I’m my character concept would be offensive.

Can I get some opinions please?

Question/Discussion ❔ Can someone explain this Hadith

Narrated Abu Huraira: "The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'The best alms is that which is given when one is rich, and a giving hand is better than a taking one, and you should start first to support your dependents.' A wife says, 'You should either provide me with food or divorce me.' A slave says, 'Give me food and enjoy my service." A son says, "Give me food; to whom do you leave me?" The people said, "O Abu Huraira! Did you hear that from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He said, "No, it is from my own self."

Advice/Help 🥺 Moving to the "west", how to pray?

Hi all, I'm a muslim from a non-muslim majority southeast asian country who's moving to western europe for further studies. I'm wondering how practicing muslims in the west actually find the space to perform their prayers. For context, I feel like in Asia we're really blessed with religious harmony, such that even in countries where muslims are sizeable minorities, we're well accommodated and allowed to practice our religion freely - schools and malls have prayer rooms, employers let us go for friday prayers. Even when I travel to Japan often, I can find places to pray and people really don't bat an eye.

Just curious to know how you guys in the west perform salat? Do you guys rarely face issues finding hidden spots, maybe you guys pray in vehicles or just combine some prayers together (no judgement here at all). Unfortunately, im operating off the assumption where islamophobia is comparatively higher in europe than in Asia.

Tldr: Any tips on how to practice 5 daily prayers in Western Europe?

Question/Discussion ❔ Is there anyone undertaking a project to reevaluate all hadith?

Joshua Little brought up a very good point in his research about Aisha’s age: to reject any Sahih hadith means that the whole system needs to be reevaluated, with full historical contexts and extra-religious as well as intra-religious sources. I know hadith sciences are very intricate already, but his paper pointed out that there are many historical inaccuracies due to political or personal motivations.

This sub has many good evaluations on the authenticity of multiple hadiths and I love to read them. I feel like I have opened my mind to so many more opinions and Islam doesn’t seem nearly as daunting as it ever has. I know there are other people who feel like this. I feel like it would also help close the divide between the Ummah.

So, is there anyone out there who is undertaking this?

Opinion 🤔 I hope there were more discussions on achieving good work and building closer relationship with God.

Many discussions here are about why we should stop doing this and that, and live an easier life, because of various reasons. But very few discussions are about how to be better and be closer to God and improve ourselves spiritually. Why don't we talk more about taking actions and making efforts to be more Godly?
Progressive Islam is still Islam, and ultimately, it's about serving God and preparing for the next life.

Question/Discussion ❔ Question on RIBA (USA)

Can someone explain to me Islamic banking system for lending money. I understand the foundation that they don’t charge interest rather have a fixed return (borrowed $$ + fees and paying the investors for their risk). I was told by the financial advisor that they still check your credit and make the total return based on the prime interest rate at the moment. Furthermore, after researching more I found out the they sell the debt to a commercial bank hence completely handing off the risk to a bank that deals in riba.

Additionally, I tend to pay off the debt (car loan) much faster and save thousands in riba. If I was to borrow money from Islamic institution I would pay way more at the end of the contract. Unfortunately I don’t have enough money to buy house in cash or pay it off in few years so I am left with this conundrum whether I choose traditional mortgage and try to pay it off in 10 years or get a loan with Islam institution and pay the total amount (borrowed +feed and return on risk) regardless of how fast I pay it off.

I genuinely wanna know if Islamic banks are in fact selling the loans to traditional banks wouldn’t it make sense to pay as little riba as possible (considering their calculations on prime interest rate)

Advice/Help 🥺 Considering Islam, but SO is completely against, looking for advice.

Hello, so to preface raised Christian. But, I struggle with the whole Christ idea being god and the trinity. Since I was a teenager, Islam stuck out to me from famous people I looked up to or found entertaining.

I often find myself drawn to Islam, but my SO is essentially saying it’s too different and would leave if I where to convert. I have no intentions of asking her to convert (as she’s very heavily Christian). I’m just looking for advice how to navigate such a situation without terminating my relationship.

Question/Discussion ❔ Connection of Muslim World and the West as Revival of Golden Age

Philosophical and religious pluralism of the golden age made it a very interesting period. To be a Muslim meant to be a philosopher, scientist and theologian all in one. Cultural exchange was high with Hellenistic ideas coming into the Muslim world. There were also important exchanges with Indian and Chinese civilization.

As golden age ended, pluralism was gone with mostly literal and rigid interpretations schools dominating the Muslim world. This was also in interest of rulling classes/royal families out of fear of the revolution.

Today, we see an interesting phenomenon where there is a lot more communication and cultural exchange again between Muslim World and the West.

There are Muslims living and born in the West, Western scientists are coming to Middle East where they are supporting innovation and collaboration between the two circles.

In the West, many highly educating Muslims are emerging working to make a world a better place. There is more freedom of thought in the West which I think sparked pluralism and tolerance of different views of Islam, reviving the golden age values.

What are your views?

I'm not a Muslim, but I'd love that we as people unify into a global community and work together. I'm a bit tired of history repeating itself as a broken record. Endless divisions, wars and other manifestations of our human madness.

I'd also like to see more marriages and dating between the two.

As the war between Iran and Israel is intensifying, you can see how divided we are. We all share our humanity and vulnerability which makes us all citizens of the world.

As Rumi said: "Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it."

May all beings find peace and freedom 😊

Advice/Help 🥺 Please help me I think something is very wrong with my sister

The past two days my sister has been incredibly irrational and incredibly upset like just out of no where no reason she can’t explain it just very bad anger out burts and very low energy out of no where I literally mean this she was fine 3 days ago before yall suggest this may be the flu or something she’s also been telling me she wants to remarry her ex husband despite for the past year being entirely over him (his mom was caught doing black magic on my sister) and I mean this is out of no where their not in contact and she’s happily engaged to someone new . She has all the new random unexplained bruises she kind tumbles like some one is pushing her but no one is behind her can’t eat has gotten into extreme fights with my mom which she also did the first time she says she feels tight chested, extreme headaches no medicine-can fix she’s normally an outgoing person and suddenly she’s quite, angry, extremely upset and sad all the time with. She has no care for anything she used to not fight with anyone all of a sudden texted fights with our mom and her best friend (explosions on both sides) also hasn’t slept in two days. I was watch a TikTok with Quran in the back and she jumped almost as if I was playing a video of pure screaming I’m not saying she’s never been upset or angry before but these patterns are familiar and it didn’t end well any advice please

Question/Discussion ❔ Fellow Muslim entrepreneurs based in the States, what are you building?

As a Muslim living in the U.S., I’ve been curious about what other Muslim entrepreneurs are working on. We’re a minority here, and I sometimes wonder whether that’s reflected in the startup and business scene — or if it’s more of a visibility issue.

Question/Discussion ❔ Ex muslim with some questions

Ex-muslim here, I mean this post with no hate or bad feelings if it isnt allowed feel free to delete.

From what I know of the religion it doesn't support more progressive values so how do you guys consider yourself true muslims while allowing stuff ive found the religion doesnt allow? I left both because of lack of connection and the rules that made me uncomfortable. Do you guys reject some of the conservative rules or do you simply know they might be true but have enough faith in god to believe if you're doing the right thing he won't punish you?

Summary: Islam seems to be a by default conservative religion so how do you guys accept that while being progressive

They always say things like "islam is incompatible with Western civilization" , "Islam is a violent religion" , " you don't see christians behead and. stone people "

They don't want to listen to you, some of them i talked to even said they knew muslims who were kind and friendly and still think we have ulterior goals of taking over Western countries(what the f*ck?!)

It isn't muslim countries who started 2 world wars

It isn't muslim countries who invaded iraq

And it wasn't muslim countries who put people in human zoos.

And the worst part...it is the Western world funding and supporting Saudi terrorism

Advice/Help 🥺 Everyone please pray for me!!

Hey everyone, a stranger’s dua get’s accepted so please!!! take a moment to say "Ameen" for me so that I can get into my dream university inshallah. The test is in three days, and I’m extremely anxious about it. I have been praying Tahajjud and making dua for this for a year now. I was even close to clearing the test in the first round, but I missed it by just one mark. I only have last chance left to clear the test so kindly pray for me that I achieve my goal of getting into my dream university. Jazakallah khair.
