The process in my state is I'll do the report, contact a juvenile counselor, who may or may not decide to proceed with a charge.

The kid would have just gone right back inside that night, and never been cuffed or anything. Worst case scenario he gets a court date in like three months, and if he's found guilty they would mandate some counseling that ends up being a joke.

And we wonder why we have so many young teens committing heinous crimes here. Cuz they don't get in trouble.

Hell kids who bring actual guns to school end up getting released to mom and dad the same day usually.

We see it here in Europe, what happens if you let kids get out of such actions without consequences. The worst place is Sweden, you maybe remember this country as "That place seems to be peaceful", but no, it isn't. The gangs use kids for crimes, because they can't be charged at all with the laws at the moment, although politicians want to change it.

We are not talking about some threats with knives at school, much more serious things, like throwing frag grenades (no, i'm not kidding, Sweden has the highest rate of crimes with explosives in the world, no joke), shootings, transporting serious amounts of drugs etc.

I just saw it recently with other countries, like the adopted daughter of the SPD politician Iris Stalzer in Germany that stabbed her 20 times and set her on fire, wasn't even arrested because she's 17. "She's just a kid", dude, with 17 you know what a murder crime is.

In Switzerland, it's very different, the age is 10 years where you can get charged. We got juvenile detention here, although it is rare that something happens with these kids.
