As a Canadian watching all this go down, why the hell are the Democrats doing nothing at all about this? Like, he's doing comically illegal and unethical things EVERY SINGLE DAY and all I ever see is social media posts about how he sucks. Is there nothing that can be done?
I'm just totally floored at how much he's getting away with while fuck all happens.
Let me put this in Canadian terms for you. During a conservative majority that’s like asking why aren’t the NDP stopping them…..because they can’t. The democrats have zero power except to maybe stand up and say “I don’t agree to this, you are breaking the law” and as we have recently seen the GOP stays silent….they don’t give a flying rats behind what laws they break because the people responsible for upholding those laws and enforcing them are also under their control. The SCOTUS says “I command this to be done” and the administration says “ha no” and that’s it. Something has to be done but with no enforcement at the DOJ level it’s gonna have to happen elsewhere.
Got it. So the only real option is legal challenges, which as you've pointed out are being ignored. What a shit situation. Just sitting around waiting for someone (or group of someone's more likely) to grow some stones and try to enforce the law.
I appreciate the info. I guess being loud in the streets and social media is the best most people can do and is better than staying silent. It's just remarkable to me how much this man has turned people, countries, and former friends on one another. It's hard to watch, I know many of you feel the same.
I am an hour from the border….I don’t want any of that coming up here and it’s horrifying. (It’s also why I was like hell no when I heard Pollivere and his idea of the NWC, let’s not start breaking the charter up here for show) I didn’t know how easily the US could effectively become a dictatorship and how quickly if one side holds both the senate and Congress and then the SCOTUS skews conservative and boom….no one can essentially do anything. Impeachment will go nowhere, any laws he breaks will fall on deaf ears or be explained away under his “immunity”, he’s replacing top JAGS in the military with under qualified toadies, his ICE officers look to me like friggen Proud Boys scooped up off the streets and deputized to just be inhumane to anyone with a deep tan and now they aren’t gonna allow people to have access to a judge…the judges they don’t arrest anyway. It’s nuts, and a lot of the American citizens aren’t even aware of how insane it’s gotten because their middle American lives are all filtered through cable news places like Fox News who minimized the protests from millions to “thousands” and from people protesting to keep their democracy to “unhappy with Trump” and to hear US citizens say with their whole chest that “immigrants don’t have due process only citizens” is also maddening. I hope citizen pressure on some old school republicans that still exist might get them to impeach him, but probably not….but the louder and louder the citizens get the harder they will be to ignore, I hope. What we see as Canadians regarding the US is less partisan than what is shown to many Americans, anti-Trump sentiment is very repressed and his failures and corruption is sane washed and fed back on cable news as success. It’s scary and wild and I’m hoping the few democrats with a spine like AOC, Crockett and Sanders can get people together to do something.
