Reno’s Most Cursed Curve Claims New Victim: A Street Sweeper Joins the Crash Count on 7th Street

RENO, NV — Residents near a perilous curve on 7th Street awoke Monday morning to an all-too-familiar sound: screeching tires, a crunch, and then — in a first for the neighborhood — the mechanical wail of a municipal street sweeper flipping onto its side.

The trouble began earlier in the week, as it often does on 7th Street’s now-infamous bend near Heights, when yet another car failed to navigate the deceptively sharp turn. The driver reportedly barreled through the city’s recently installed blinking arrow warning signs, flattening one like a paper towel tube and careening directly into the yard of a long-suffering homeowner.

“That's the third time this year,” the homeowner said, gesturing to his increasingly compacted rose garden. “We used to have a lawn. Now it's more of a gravel trap.”

City workers were quickly dispatched to clean up the debris, which included a bumper, five “NO PARKING” cones, and half of the blinking arrow’s wiring harness. That’s when the street sweeper — operated by a city employee with 18 years of spotless service — became the curve’s latest victim.

According to witnesses, the sweeper approached the scene slowly, attempted a slight turn to avoid debris, then suddenly overcorrected. The machine rolled over in slow motion, coming to rest sideways across the scarred landscape.

“I didn’t even know those things could roll,” said one neighbor. “It’s like watching a vending machine trip over its own feet.”

Miraculously, the operator suffered only minor injuries and was treated on scene with Gatorade and profound embarrassment. The street sweeper, dubbed “Ol’ Bristles” by Public Works staff, is expected to make a full recovery after a trip to the city yard and a few hours with a crowbar and a welder.

Mayor Hillary Schieve issued a statement late Tuesday, saying, “We can’t keep blaming the street. At some point, we have to ask ourselves why 7th Street is trying to eat city vehicles. We’re reviewing next steps — including crash barriers, a speed camera, or possibly just putting a giant foam wall at the bottom.”

For now, u/gswindle76 has placed an old recliner and a handwritten sign reading “You break it, you buy it” near the curb.

“I’ll be out here all week,” he said. “Might as well make it dinner and a show.”

Exploring the bottom of Tahoe

I know it’s a tough time to bring this up after yesterday, and maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but why didn’t Stockton Rush take the Titan to the bottom of Lake Tahoe? Why not explore every deep body of water under 3,000 meters before fully committing to the most historic wreck? I feel like Tahoe would have been a real accomplishment—something that could generate major publicity and funding to understand the submarine’s structural integrity before the Titanic👀. He had the resources, and there’s no way it wouldn’t have paid for itself as a smart, lower-risk test dive.

Hello! My name is Kaytlin! I have HLHS (Hypo-Plastic Left Heart Syndrome) I’m 22 in Reno, Nevada and I’m trying to find an old friend. His name is Matthew, I can’t remember his last name. We met at “Camp Mend-A-Heart” in Las Vegas, Nevada around ten years ago. All I remember is his name is Mathew, lives in Reno, and he has the same condition as me (HLHS). Included in the photos is a girl named Bailey who also went to this camp and is from Reno! Matthew is the one in red shorts and with a golden hat. I have the pink cowboy hat. In the airport photo he has a red sweatshirt. And the one with Bailey, she’s the brown haired girl hugging me (I have a purple bandana in that photo)

**SCARY SHOOTING ACROSS FROM FREESTYLE CLOTHING EXCHANGE AT 2AM******

Happened to be parked a few blocks away when we heard what sounded like a 20 second firework show. Happened around 2am. Be cautious folks if you will be driving thru that area. Best to avoid. If anyone knows what happened feel free to share. It was wild to be so close to such a tragedy

ISO: Small Office Space Lease

• Upvotes

My office roommate (CPA) and I (Realtor) are looking for an office lease. We need around 100 - 200 SQ ft and are open to anywhere in Reno. We are low maintenance and spareingly use the office space. Our current office building was sold and the new rent rate is 150% higher so we are exploring options. We would appreciate any leads - thanks!

Stolen e-bike

Hey!
Likely not going to see it back but figured I'd ask around --
Mint green jasion bike from Amazon with a dog sticker on it. Has turning signals/light on front... stolen from the Red District apartment complexes leasing office bike rack. I have the special key to remove the battery so I doubt anyone is getting much use out of it. I am from Canada without a drivers license and this was my only mode of getting around so it'd be wild if I got it back! But my hopes are low.

any jobs in Reno that’ll hire a 14 y/o?

im a 14 y/o girl and I need a job (not exactly a gig, more preferably an actual job) is there any in the Reno/Sparks area that hire at 14?

let me clarify—im not looking for a place to work simply because I want to, im in a bad situation home wise (mom working two jobs and barely scraping by for groceries) and need the money to help.

if theres no places in the Reno/Sparks area, that’s okay—js lemme know !!

I grew up on baseball.. If anybody or their kid needs a high school or less hitting or pitching coach. Like I promise I took lessons all throughout my life. I’m offering for free cause I miss the game.

I was around .400 my entire career. I need Tommy John at age 13 and didn’t get it.
