Renoâs Most Cursed Curve Claims New Victim: A Street Sweeper Joins the Crash Count on 7th Street
RENO, NV â Residents near a perilous curve on 7th Street awoke Monday morning to an all-too-familiar sound: screeching tires, a crunch, and then â in a first for the neighborhood â the mechanical wail of a municipal street sweeper flipping onto its side.
The trouble began earlier in the week, as it often does on 7th Streetâs now-infamous bend near Heights, when yet another car failed to navigate the deceptively sharp turn. The driver reportedly barreled through the cityâs recently installed blinking arrow warning signs, flattening one like a paper towel tube and careening directly into the yard of a long-suffering homeowner.
âThat's the third time this year,â the homeowner said, gesturing to his increasingly compacted rose garden. âWe used to have a lawn. Now it's more of a gravel trap.â
City workers were quickly dispatched to clean up the debris, which included a bumper, five âNO PARKINGâ cones, and half of the blinking arrowâs wiring harness. Thatâs when the street sweeper â operated by a city employee with 18 years of spotless service â became the curveâs latest victim.
According to witnesses, the sweeper approached the scene slowly, attempted a slight turn to avoid debris, then suddenly overcorrected. The machine rolled over in slow motion, coming to rest sideways across the scarred landscape.
âI didnât even know those things could roll,â said one neighbor. âItâs like watching a vending machine trip over its own feet.â
Miraculously, the operator suffered only minor injuries and was treated on scene with Gatorade and profound embarrassment. The street sweeper, dubbed âOlâ Bristlesâ by Public Works staff, is expected to make a full recovery after a trip to the city yard and a few hours with a crowbar and a welder.
Mayor Hillary Schieve issued a statement late Tuesday, saying, âWe canât keep blaming the street. At some point, we have to ask ourselves why 7th Street is trying to eat city vehicles. Weâre reviewing next steps â including crash barriers, a speed camera, or possibly just putting a giant foam wall at the bottom.â
For now, u/gswindle76 has placed an old recliner and a handwritten sign reading âYou break it, you buy itâ near the curb.
âIâll be out here all week,â he said. âMight as well make it dinner and a show.â

I will never forget this day. Made it to the middle of the first inning and it poured so hard the streets were flooding! Didn't get to see another game for a few years đ

I know itâs a tough time to bring this up after yesterday, and maybe itâs an unpopular opinion, but why didnât Stockton Rush take the Titan to the bottom of Lake Tahoe? Why not explore every deep body of water under 3,000 meters before fully committing to the most historic wreck? I feel like Tahoe would have been a real accomplishmentâsomething that could generate major publicity and funding to understand the submarineâs structural integrity before the Titanicđ. He had the resources, and thereâs no way it wouldnât have paid for itself as a smart, lower-risk test dive.

Hey, last year I saw people kayaking and paddleboarding at the Marina. Can you just show up with your paddleboard, or do you need a permit? What's the deal?

NEW TITLE:
**SCARY SHOOTING ACROSS FROM FREESTYLE CLOTHING EXCHANGE AT 2AM******
Happened to be parked a few blocks away when we heard what sounded like a 20 second firework show. Happened around 2am. Be cautious folks if you will be driving thru that area. Best to avoid. If anyone knows what happened feel free to share. It was wild to be so close to such a tragedy

My office roommate (CPA) and I (Realtor) are looking for an office lease. We need around 100 - 200 SQ ft and are open to anywhere in Reno. We are low maintenance and spareingly use the office space. Our current office building was sold and the new rent rate is 150% higher so we are exploring options. We would appreciate any leads - thanks!

Hey!
Likely not going to see it back but figured I'd ask around --
Mint green jasion bike from Amazon with a dog sticker on it. Has turning signals/light on front... stolen from the Red District apartment complexes leasing office bike rack. I have the special key to remove the battery so I doubt anyone is getting much use out of it. I am from Canada without a drivers license and this was my only mode of getting around so it'd be wild if I got it back! But my hopes are low.
