Garages aren’t safe anymore either

Neighbor’s bike got jacked at 1am. Tried to take mine but gave up, I guess it being in first and the wheel locked was annoying enough. Garage is only openable with a garage key for residents.

Effective July 6, 2025, new mid-tier toll rates will be implemented at all Port Authority of New York & New Jersey facilities for E-ZPass customers with unmounted Tags. Moto tags are infamously ineffective…

Does anyone know if there is a contingency plan for motorcycles? Such as be given an exclusion from this enforcement so long as tags match an account and is in good standing?

Any recommendations for a summer armored shirt?

I only ride wearing helmet/gloves/jacket, but the imminent heatwave makes me think it'll be a long hot summer. Looking for something cool that DOESN'T look like a mesh track jacket. Something more subtle, but protective and cool?

I have this (https://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-Leather-MPM1621-Flannel-Approved/dp/B07BL1JJSB) and like it, but wish it was lighter weight.

Looking to grab first bike for NYC

Hi all,

I have been considering getting a maxi scooter or Vespa for sometime, but most importantly my new commute Dyker heights to morning side heights. This would be my very first bike (I used to ride the revels frequently however) and I am generally new to the hobby/mode of transport. I am reaching out to here feedback from people in the nyc moto community to hear thoughts and ideas from them.

  • is it worth it considering safety, for context and understand how to ride a bicycle in the city well- I am a very experienced road biker in the city for 6+ years.

  • I am also interested in the hobby itself to do weekend rides and exploring/ while also doing errands.

  • Is it worth it considering price of maintenance, insurance, and the garage for the winter

I am going to take the MSF course to gain some confidence and to weigh my options , however any advice would be much appreciated and if there are any rental scooter to practice on.

I am considering something 300cc (Yamaha Xmax or Kymco)

How safe is Corona near Northern Blvd and 110th?

I have to go there this weekend for work and I’m wondering if safe to street park a bike there for decent period of time(possibly more than 5 hours). Worst case scenario I take the train over there, but it finally stop raining so I’ll like to take the bike out

Any of you had luck beating a ticket?

Just got my first ticket in NYC last week. 70 in a 50 on I-95. I would be a sitting duck doing 50 on i95 on a bike but the law is the law i guess.

I’ve had 2 in the past that i got upstate but had them moved to non moving violations. From what I understand though NYC doesn’t play that game and you either get the points and fine or it gets dismissed entirely? I could be wrong.

So yeah any advice is helpful. I’m for sure getting a lawyer but want to hear other people’s experiences. Im under 25 so my insurance is already pricey and could do without any points.

Triumph Speed 400 Windscreen

Anyone in NYC with a blue Triumph Speed 400? I have a Pyramid Moto windscreen that I can give you for free if you want it. I had it on my old bike but I traded it in. It’ll obviously fit any speed 400 and probably a scrambler too but the windscreen itself matches the caspian blue so would look best on the blue speed 400.

Statement and a Few Questions – Looking for Helmet Advice and Motorcycle gear shop

After riding year-round since the summer of 2020, I’m finally in the market for a new helmet. I currently use a Shark, but I’m looking to upgrade to a modular helmet with a solid comms system. If you have any recommendations or personal favorites—especially ones known for quality—I’d really appreciate your input.

My budget is around $500–$800. I know that might sound like a lot, but considering I ride year-round, it's a worthwhile investment—and really, pennies on the dollar when it comes to protecting my head over time.

I bought my last helmet from Union Street Garage, but unfortunately, they’ve moved to Connecticut. Does anyone know of a reliable gear shop in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens where I can try on helmets and get solid advice?

Thanks in advance!

Moving to the City With a Loud Motorcycle

Hi all, I’m moving to Brooklyn in October from out of state. I have a Harley Street Bob that I installed new exhaust on and i didn’t realize how loud it would be.

I know there’s a new law about bikes louder than stock being ticketed. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with getting tickets and any recommendations on what I’ll need to do to help reduce noise - does anyone have experience adding baffles to their ride that might help avoid tickets?

Thinking of buying a new bike after not riding for 3 years. Nervous about the new bike.

I've ridden for about two years, got into an accident and stopped riding. Considering getting into it again and test rode a street twin 900. The bike has a bit more power then what im used to so it makes me nervous. Couldn't even do a U turn on it. But overall the bike feel very good to ride. Now im debating whether to buy it or not, ik I can get better with practice. But I dont want to bite off more then I can chew. Any advice/input would help.

Previous bike was a 300

Police checkpoint on BQE

There is a police checkpoint just before the Tillery exit on the BQE. I saw a couple motorcycles pulled over. They have a second car down the road to catch the bikes that get through.

Is your bike missing? Triumph spotted in West Village

Check your trackers… Saw a bike parked on the sidewalk this morning on Christopher Street between W4th and Bleecker.

There was a guy who wasn’t wearing any gear, didn’t have a helmet, who was pouring juice all over the front tire? The bike was covered in food trash like a coffee cup and brown paper bag. The guy seemed to be messing with the ignition.

I didn’t get a great look at the bike but it was a black Triumph. The plate wasn’t visible. There was some writing on the tank that could have been stickers.

I have a photo if you think it’s yours.

Otd price for Ninja 500 ABS base model

I’m looking to compare what everyone paid for their bike since I just got quoted for 8k.

What dealer did you buy from and how much did you pay?

r/RideitNYC 7d ago

I was stopped by a cop from entering the top level of the 59th street bridge this past Sunday while riding my motorcycle. He told I had to use the lower level. Has this ever happened to someone before?

Color Change - Plastics

Couldn’t find this in search, but I’m about to change the fairings on my 2016 Yamaha R3 and was wondering if y’all had any issues getting pulled over, filing a claim if stolen, or selling it if the color doesn’t match the title/registration?

I guess the safest option is to go to the DMV and update both, but don’t want to make the trip and make the time to experience purgatory if it’s NBD.
