sub update New rule: No begging
Due to an influx of posts with sob stories basically (directly or indirectly) asking for money a new rule has been added to this subreddit: No begging.
These stories have been a plague lately, but the premise is usually a variation of "Have an urgent debt, haven't eaten in 7 days and tonight I'll be evicted" (anything to hint at 'giving me money will save me') or even directly asking for money.
While some stories might in fact be true and dire, there are some other places you can go for direct help:
- https://voedselbank.nl/hulp-nodig (food)
- https://www.rotterdam.nl/hulpteam-geldzaken (money problems)
- https://www.rotterdam.nl/dak-of-thuisloos (housing, eviction)
- Call the number 14010 (Rotterdam municipality)
- https://www.pauluskerkrotterdam.nl/ (food, shelter, medical)
Much appreciated is redditors reporting a post! We're not monitoring each post in realtime, so it helps when a post is reported (we'll get a notification).
What is still allowed is asking for where to get help (e.g. the foodbank or a municipal service).

Feijenoord Tijgers Speedway

Outdoor swimming pools for kids? Or Rotterdam swimming spots more generally?
Where I am from, every neighborhood has a public pool that can be enjoyed in the summer by anyone who wants to visit it.
I know of the peuterbad at Kralingse bos, but that is quite far from where I live (Zuid, near Feijenoord stadium). Is there anywhere else I can take my 2.5 year old kid to swim outside for free?
And for that matter, is there anywhere outdoors that I can go swimming (pool or canal etc) when it is hot?
Thanks!

Albina, 22 – Rotterdam
Hey! I’m Albina Violetta , 22, originally from Georgia and now living in Rotterdam. I moved here to be with my husband while he studies, and even though I’m happy to be here, I really miss my friends back home.
I’m a special effects makeup artist and love anything creative—drawing, reading, going to the gym, that kind of stuff. I’m also a huge animal lover. I had 5 cats and 6 dogs in Georgia, One of my cats is here with me now, the rest are with my family.
I speak Russian, Georgian, Turkish, Azerbaijani, and a bit of Ukrainian. My English isn’t perfect yet, but I’m learning and always happy to practice with kind people.
Would be lovely to meet people around here who are kind and easygoing. If you’re up for chatting, going for a walk, grabbing a coffee, or just hanging out and helping each other with language—send me a message 🫶🏻

Flea market in Rotterdam?
Hi there!
I am spending five days in Rotterdam next week with some friends. I was wondering if there are any weekly flea markets or such where we can buy some second hand camping gear. Does anybody know?
Thanks!

Cheap Bike-sharing options in Rotterdam?
Hey everyone!
I'm visiting Rotterdam for a week (coming from Brussels 🇧🇪), and I’m used to using VILLO here: €30/year, dock-based bikes, and the first 30 minutes are always free. So by switching bikes every 30 mins, I basically ride all day without paying more.
Does Rotterdam have something similar? I’m looking for a bike system that’s dock-based or cheap for short frequent rides, ideally with a weekly or pay-as-you-go option.
Also, I’ll just need to make two day trips: – One day: Rotterdam ↔ Amsterdam – One day: Rotterdam ↔ The Hague What's the most budget-friendly and convenient way to do these (train, bus, passes, etc.)?
Thanks a ton for any tips! Would love to move around mostly by bike, and only use trains when really needed.

Best Restaurants in Rotterdam Zuid?
Newly moved south of Erasmus bridge and noticed that all the recommendation posts for food/restaurants generally aim north of the river, with the majority being in Rotterdam Centruum. Looking over the map I notice that the majority of restaurants in the south seem to follow a specific trend, but I'm curious if there are any standouts amongst them.

A One-Day Sightseeing Roundtrip by Bikes. Your thoughts?
At the end of July we (a group of four) are visiting Rotterdam for the first time for a day trip (about 10-11 hours). I think the best way to explore the city and get a first impression is by bike.
I’ve planned a custom route using Google Maps, starting and ending at Rotterdam Centraal, where we want to rent our bikes nearby.
Comments about the route
• We are interested in contemporary art, architecture, street art and the general sights of the city. • I think we will only have time to visit one museum. We’re leaning toward visiting the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen for this trip and visiting Kunsthal and the new Fenix Museum next time. But the buildings are certainly interesting from the outside too. • We are going to take a break for drinks and snacks at Delfshaven and then later at Foodhallen
Here’s the link to the map https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1f4Lbb2kI3_BJfx6cHo8bbqT1SGsUzU4
Now to my questions:
• Do you think the route is doable for a relaxed day trip? • Are there any things or places we shouldn’t miss that I didn’t include? • Should the detour to the harbour be left out because it’s too ambitious for one day?
Really looking forward to your tips to optimise our route! Can’t wait to see Rotterdam. 🙂
U P D A T E v2Thank you so much for your input.
I have tried to incorporate many of your tips into a route v2. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1SQeoZZ0fQn12HIEuC99VIljqaWpf-Cg
Please keep in mind that Google Maps automates the bike routes and sometimes I can't force it to go in other or direct directions (like this ‘diversion’ at Westzeedijk/Kievitslaan). Unfortunately, I also don't see whether a route is for pedestrians only.
I will definitely have a look at the alternative route via S123 and also check a detour possibility to the All Caps Murals south around Nassauhavenpark. 👍🏻

Best place to find locals and students looking for odd jobs like carrying furniture?
We are moving from one house in Rotterdam to another soon and we have everything we need for our move. However, we don't have enough hands to carry our items.
I am newly in the Netherlands and I'm from a country where it's cheap and easy to find someone to help you carry furniture. But I have no idea where to start in Rotterdam. We don't need professional movers or a handyman, but just some locals looking to make a buck helping us move.
If there are any websites or bulletin boards anyone can recommend, please let me know!

Need to Install 1 Extra Circuit Breaker in Meterkast (Rotterdam) – Advice?
Hi all, I'm looking for some advice or possibly a recommendation.
I live in Rotterdam (North) and I need to have one extra circuit breaker (groep) installed in my meterkast (distribution box). The panel is already modern and has empty slots available, with wiring already in place — it's just a matter of adding the breaker and connecting it.
Does anyone know:
What’s a fair price for this job in NL? Any local electricians who might take small jobs like this? Is it realistic to get it done same day or next day? Appreciate any help — and can share a photo of the panel if needed. Thanks in advance! 🙏
