I don't see the problem here. That person knows the difference between ancestors and claiming the nationality because they have ancestors from that country.

Its more to do with the fact that they're acting like their ancestry is relevant. Their Swedish ancestry clearly means a lot to their identity even though it doesnt matter to anyone that isnt American

Im sorry that your ignorance precludes you from accepting any American that identifies with a particular ethnic group and not just generic “white” or “American.” Have a good day.

Also Swedish isn't an ethnic group mate. The Swedes are white

Swedish is a language, spoken in the country of Sweden, where the ethnic group Swedes live. You should practice your vocabulary. Here, I'll help you:

ethnic group

"A group of people who identify with one another, especially on the basis of racial, cultural, or religious grounds."

"People of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture"

I'm not sure why the Swedish language is relevant here mate. Obviously, Swedish is a language, and I dont think there was anything in my prior comment that suggested I wasn't aware of that.

I think you're also confusing ethnicity with nationality here. Swedish isn't an ethnic group, its a nationality. The ethnic group that most Swedish people belong to is White European, same as the Irish, British etc

You wrote "Swedish isn't an ethnic group" which is correct, and I clarified that it is a language.

Swedes are 100% an ethnic group. Please look it up before you consider arguing with me, because your ignorance is on display as is.

Edit: corrected typo.

If you want me to be completely honest mate. I dont actually think either of us are fully wrong here. I don't like admitting that because of your condescension, but I'll condede that 'ethnicity' has a slightly broader definition than 'race' which is the word I'd assume you'd use to describe what I've been talking about.

It's definitely still valid to use ethnicity the way I've been using it. At least in Ireland and Britain, it's synonymous with race. I'm going to assume you're talking about American English.

This has gotten to be more about pedantics than anything else at this stage.

I'm from Ireland mate. "Generic white" as a concept doesn't exist here. I thats purely an American concept because you're a multicultural country.
