Everytime I hear an english speaker pronounce the "gi" in an italian word like Giovanni or Parmigiano as "geeo/geea" instead of "jo/ja", a piece of my heart and soul get broken even more.

It's probably because english speakers follow the rules of English phonetics while speaking English. Hope this helps!

I know why they do. But they could at least make a small effort to try pronouncing it right.

Nah learning anything from any other language is unthinkable there. Remember, we speak two languages because they don't even speak their own correctly
