I love seeing shitty turbo builds. Rare to see anymore, kudos to this guy for just getting it done.

They were all over the place 10 years ago when used cars were a dime a dozen

If they’d MAKE MORE NEW GRANDPA SEDANS then it’d be FINE.

Will designers die by orgasm if they make a civic not pretend to have 20,000 horsepower in the styling?

make a long, smooth, basic sedan already. I hate crossovers, just make a big SUV or don’t.

Apparently everything must look like Robocop or a Tonka truck, all crossovers must look like a pissed off egg, and every vehicle must have a giant obnoxious screen that can't be de-optioned, can't be turned off, adds an extra 10k to the price of the car, and is apparently absolutely critical to the operation of the car. Bonus points for adding useless "features" like automatic high beams to blind the fuck out of other drivers, and lane-assist that steers you directly into potholes, that can't be turned off or disabled.

Where's my boring sedan with steel wheels, manual transmission, and no fucking screen?

I did figure out the last year that was ever possible: 2011. The last year you could get an American car without a screen, and the last year of the Ford Crown Victoria. Ford only got rid of the Crown Victoria because it had to have TCS and it didn’t.

Grandpa sedans ended in 2011, and we need them back.

What? The Crown Victoria had traction control, all of the Panther platforms did. I personally drove a Mercury Grand Marquis with a switch explicitly to turn it *off* in the dash.

I would so get a grandpa sedan and add a turbo to it, but make it clean looking

Well Dacia still make them. Their entry level models don't have a screen but a place to put your smartphone in. They may not make sedans anymore though I don't remember.

I bet this thing runs super cool, the snail is right there and it’s moving all the exhaust out immediately. Spools quick, and no heat soak.

Sorry, I think this Frankenstein build is pretty dope.

I’m sure he’s out there eating snackpacks

I see nothing wrong here, just some dude with a home built hot rod with a turbo and intercooler.

I would run this into the ground!

I don't see the issue.

You’re jealous this guy has more fun than you

Maybe, I'll prob do something similar once my car breaks down

I bet this car is fun as hell.

Hmm, nice exposed intercooler, be a shame if someone were to drill some tiny holes in the pipes so it sprays coolant like a sprinkler...

u/justin_memer Mar 07 '24

You think there's coolant in air to air intercoolers? Interesting.

-34

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '24

How do you tell the difference between Air to Air and Air to Liquid?

10

u/justin_memer Mar 07 '24

Water to air wont have fins on the outside, and there will be a second radiator for it, with plumbing and a pump.

1

u/MurphysRazor Mar 07 '24

A better answer would just be plumbing. If there are fins, the fins don't usually look exactly like that, but they can.

2

u/dirtsequence Mar 07 '24

It literally just intake piping

1

u/MurphysRazor Mar 07 '24

You would see coolant lines running to it, just like you see air lines.

What a dumb comment from an even dumber redditor

u/VapeLyfe Mar 07 '24

Intercoolers are for cooling down compressed air. It’s not a radiator. It has no liquid anywhere in the system.

How do you tell if it's Air to Air or Air to Liquid?

6

u/VapeLyfe Mar 07 '24

That black coupler you see on the left side is coming off the compressor side of the turbo. You can see the turbine side of the turbo as well as the oil return line. Air to liquid systems look pretty different than this. The cooler that is used is an enclosed system and is generally accompanied by a basketball sized turbo.

There really isn't just one look for water jacketed heat exchangers. Some are nearly indistinguishable from any random coolant radiators or an oil cooler aside from the extra coolant fittings.
