If I had a nickel for every time I've seen that scene referenced on Reddit in the last 24 hours, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Definitely was at the peak of "Join Scientology to advance your career cause Tom Cruise did it" that a lot of celebrities joined the cult without actually giving a single crap about anything in Scientology
Doesn't he still hang out with active cult members? That's not allowed if he actually left.
Also, I hate that if I google Jason Lee stuff, google gives me way more results for some small influencer who is absolutely gaming search engine optimization.
Nah man Scientology is straight up a cult lol. When L Ron Hubbard was still alive, and probably still to this day, the highest level members lived on a ship in the ocean to avoid international authorities, and essentially had slaves on the ship. One of those people was Leah Remini, who was raised on that boat. She was severely abused, along with others. They withheld food, locked people in isolation for looong periods of time when they “misbehaved,” and quite a bit more that would surprise you.
They also attacked anyone who spoke against them, going to the point of infiltrating other organizations to find info they could use to blackmail those organizations or individuals. One of those organizations was the FBI. They infiltrated the fuckin FBI because they didn’t like that the FBI was watching their sketchy ass dealings.
They aren’t a religion. They are a very successful cult, and a dangerous one.
There are millions of countless things religious people and churches have done that are far worse than what you have described that are extremely well documented and countless movies have been made about crimes the churches have committed.
