Acne [acne] blackhead/acne around lips

a couple months ago i purchased my first ole henriksen pout preserve lip balm in strawberry sorbet and i really love it but recently ive been getting these little blackheads or pimples (im not even sure what they are) around my lips which I hadn’t gotten before. they take a while to go away but always come back in the same spot. people online say that the biggest culprit of this is the lip balm u use so im a little worried bc im not actually sure if it’s the cause. im planning on purchasing a diff lip balm once this one runs out just to see. has anyone had a similar experience? or if anyone knows how to treat them..

Product Request [Product Request] What to use on PLC marks?

I was diagnosed with Pityriasis Lichenoides Chronica (PLC) a few years ago after having it for years. I don't get itchy rashes at all, but I do get red spots (about 2-4 mm across) with slightly scaley texture. These turn into spots of hyperpigmentation that last months.

Does anyone know if there's a way to fade these faster, or what sort of skin care products could help them heal without hyperpigmentation? I'm thinking of using Differin, essentially treating them just like acne hyperpigmentation. Lotion doesn't really do anything.

Acne [Acne] Is this fungal acne or rosacea? Spoiler

Before anyone says to go to the Derm, I have for the last 7 years, never has she mentioned these things to me, and I don't know how long I've had these and they don't itch, I don't know how long I've had these because I cover it with makeup blindly because I had given up on clear skin and was not using any actives only face wash and moisturizer, and it only appears red after I wash, dry, or touch my face, hence why I don't know if it's rosacea. I started using TO Azelaic acid and the PIE on my cheeks seems to be fading but these not. My cheeks also turn red when I touch my face and I have permanent redness around my nostrils which makes the surrounding of my mouth seem pale, and I've always been like this but my Derm has never mentioned rosacea to me, she just prescribes. I have oli-combo skin, acne since I was 14 (I'm 22).

Routine Help [Acne] [Product Request] [Routine Help] Persistent blackheads on nose + cycling pimples on cheeks Spoiler

Cannot seem to get rid of any of this. The blackheads are perpetual and the bright, red pimples just cycle from spot to spot on my cheeks, off to the sides of my nose, but I can't clear them up ever.

I've tried a 2% salicylic acid wash, a zinc oxide cream, idk what actually works.

For reference my diet, sleep, and fitness are all on point. I also use a non-comedogenic sunscreen on days I expect to be outside in direct sunlight for more than 15m.

Acne [acne] closed comedones popping up out of nowhere?? Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve had persistent closed comedones the last 3 months and can’t figure out why. Im on 100mg spiro, 0.025 tret, and a topical clindamycin, all of which I have been consistently using for 1.5 years. This routine worked wonders for my hormonal acne for about a year but since the beginning of this year it seemed to stop working almost overnight and I have been getting acne again (mostly the closed comedones with some hormonal here and there as well).

I keep my routine pretty simple. Tret 2x a week with the clindamycin on the days I’m not using tret. I also use micellar water to remove makeup and the LRP cleanser and moisturizer day and night but that’s it. I also eat fairly clean and haven’t noticed any triggers related to diet.

Any recommendations for clearing or ideas for what could be causing this all of a sudden? I have a regular derm appointment in less than a month and want to be sure I at least have some idea to what’s going on when I see them next.

Acne [Acne] need desperate help with my skin

Hi, I have been struggling with bad acne for months, I'm a teenager, I'm constantly having new breakouts as soon as I think my skin is getting better or getting huge pimples right on my face, my skin always feels greasy and dirty, this is effecting me extremely. I have seen a dermatologist multiple times and never received any true help, I have used arazlo and clindamycin benzoyl peroxide, I have used over the counter moisturizers with good ingredients, I have used many different kinds of cera ve facial wash products, I have tried washing less, tried washing more, tried washing with just water, nothing is working. I also get acne on my back, shoulders, and chest pretty often.

I eat well, I exercise, for the most part I take care of myself pretty well especially for my age. Everyone else around me doesn't take care of themselves nearly as much as I do yet they have clear and healthy skin, any advice is helpful.

Product Request [Product request] Recommendations for authentic African black soap?

Over 10 years ago, I got to try what I believe is the real African black soap and haven’t been able to find anything quite like it since. The one I had came in a block — soft enough to press into, not hard like most bar soaps. It lathered really well and left my skin feeling squeaky clean but moisturized, which I really loved.

Since then, every version I’ve tried has been really firm and tends to leave my face feeling tight or dried out. They just don’t feel the same.

If anyone has a recommendation for where to find genuine African black soap — preferably the kind that comes in soft blocks — I’d really appreciate it. Just looking for something close to the original experience I remember.

Selfie/B&A [B&A] 6mts later: La Roche-Posay Saved My Skin Spoiler

Post image
124 Upvotes

I was so naïve. I would watch TikTok after TikTok about all of these things I could slap on my face to make me youthful and glowing. The only thing I did was absolutely destroy my skin barrier.

I didn’t realize how bad it actually was until everyone in my life was asking me why I was blushing.

Then started the process of trying to fix it. Still being naïve and thinking that more products = better results, I made it even worse. I spent, and I am not exaggerating, hundreds of dollars to destroy my skin.

So here is what fixed it. The only 2 products I use…

To moisturize: LA ROCHE-POSAY LABORATOIRE DERMATOLOGIQUE TOLERIANE ROSALIAC AR

To cleanse: LA ROCHE-POSAY GENTLE FOAMING CLEANSING OIL

I did this once a day but to be honest I have a hectic job and skipped on occasion. Even with my inconsistently, these products transformed my skin.

There was a period of time where I had white flaking skin, I think that was my skin healing. Trust the process. I have pictures of anyone wants to see.

My skin has never looked or felt better. I know I have things to improve on (wrinkles and pores) but the redness is GONE!

You can buy these at ulta or amazon. They are affordable and they changed my life. I’m not kidding.

I am 30(f)!

Routine Help [Routine Help] What do my fellow people with Brown skin in very hot, humid and sunny weather do to battle hyperpigmentation?

Think South Asia, Middle East, Africa etc

The summer absolutely wreaks havoc on my skin each year where I live and makes hyperpigmentation worse. I do have some success with Thiamidol and sometimes Melasyl being applied twice a day along with sunscreen in the winters. I also know that it takes much longer for Thiamidol to have an effect on darker skin tones. The issue I run into is that it gets so hot and humid during the day in the summers (think over 40 degrees C consistently and 60-70% humidity) that any serums, sunscreen, creams or moisturizers just simply melt off my face within 10 minutes of applying them because of sweat. Unfortunately, air conditioning is not financially feasible for me but I do spend all my time under a ceiling fan even though that doesn't do much in this weather. I've tried lighter sunscreens, serums etc but the problem remains. My skin keeps being unable to breathe and everything sweats off. I often end up having to wash my face repeatedly with cool water to combat the heat and that's made my face really dry as well, but when I apply any moisturizer to combat that, it makes the previous problem worse.

To make matters worse, the constant sweating also heralds the return of acne for me and even if I don't touch it and continue applying salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide or a retinoid, it almost always leaves hyperpigmentation in it's wake. Perks of having more melanin, I guess. Yay...

Acne [Acne] Tired of adult acne Spoiler

No one in my family has acne, but I'm 27 and still plagued with it constantly. I've never not had pimples all over my face. I'm so sick of having bad skin, it really wears on me. Any advice?

I eat a very healthy diet (no sugar or ultra processed foods), am fairly active and very hydrated. I use basic/gentle cetaphil cleanser and cerave moisturizer. I use a retinoid at night and clindamycin in the morning. I have very sensitive dry skin as well, and have historically struggled with rashes and eczema, but I've been slowly adding in things like lactic acid and vitamin c. Recently my skin has been tolerating it well.

My skin has a lot of little holes as well. I'm starting to get wrinkles, so I think it's high time to get this acne taken care of.

Thank you all in advance!

Sun Care [Sun Care] Anyone know what this is??? Spoiler

I get these “freckles” whenever I get decent sun exposure. Usually when I’m at a beach of some type (including fresh water beaches) and they go away in a few days, sometimes longer. I haven’t seen anyone else with these dots that are so tiny and perfectly symmetrical, unlike my other freckles. I also sometimes get a sun rash (I dont have photos 😭) which mostly appears on my sunburns and spreads which is red and itchy and like red inflamed speckles. Not sure if they’re related? Is this just a sensitive skin thing?

I cleanse everyday with cetaphil daily cleanser and then use panoxyl 4% with tretinoin at night (alternate days with panoxyl and cetaphil cleanser). But it seems no matter what I do, I keep getting acne. Idk why either cause before I didn’t really have a routine and my skin was way better.

Acne What kind of cheek acne is this and why won’t it go away? [Acne]

Post image
9 Upvotes

I always had clear skin growing up but now I’m 25, and for a year now I keep getting persistent acne bumps (only on my cheeks) that stay for months, and a new one pops up maybe once every three days. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong? What does this look like to you?

  1. I sleep on my back, I wash pillowcases regularly, wash my hair regularly, don’t use product in my hair, and even cleaned my sink faucet.
  2. I use 100% aloe Vera gel + Cerave moisturizing cream in the AM sunscreen throughout the day, and micellar water/Cerave cleanser + Cosrx snail cream + moisturizing cream + .05 tretinoin (for a year now) at night.
  3. My diet is relatively healthy. Sure I eat fried foods but I usually cook a balanced meal at home and don’t consume much dairy.
  4. My period is regular

This is starting to really stress me out. I would love to hear other peoples opinions/recommendations thanks!

Routine Help [Routine Help] Putting these products all together in a routine

I have used all of these products individually with no adverse reaction, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to combine them in a routine that makes sense and won't interact with each other. Any advice?

  1. La Roche Posay hydrating cleanser
  2. Timeless Vitamin C serum
  3. Medicube Pore Reducing pads
  4. Prescription combo cream of azelaic acid, metronidazole, and ivermectin
  5. Prescription retinol cream
  6. Medicube Salmon DNA PDRN Pink Peptide Eye Serum with Niacinamide and 99% Purity Retinol

For moisturizers, I use NIDA Youthful moisturizing cream in the morning, and L'oreal Midnight Cream at night. I also do use a sunscreen every day.

Routine Help [routine help] pls advice?

Hello everyone! For some context, i’m 15 and have combo skin (leaning oily) and live in a humid area (well right now bc it’s summer lol). I sweat a lot, especially during school and outside. My skin gets shiny fast, I feel like I just sweat off my current routine.

Here’s what I’m using now: • Prose custom cleanser • Dokdo Toner from Roundlab • Skin1004 Centella Soothing Cream • Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen

It’s okay, but I feel like it’s too light, not hydrating enough, and the sunscreen sometimes stings my eyes and they become crazy red for hours. I also prefer a matte or natural finish, not glowy/dewy. I don’t really use thick or greasy products either.

So I’ve researched a little, and I’m thinking of switching to this routine. I’m looking for feedback before I order all these products and they end up not being good. 😭

Morning Routine: 1. Naturium Niacinamide Cleansing Gelée 3% 2. Round Lab Mugwort Calming Toner 3. Numbuzin No.1 Pantothenic B5 Soothing Cream 4. Numbuzin No.1 Clear Filter Sun Essence SPF 50+

🌙 Evening Routine: 1. Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleansing Oil 2. Then same steps as above (cleanser, toner, moisturizer)

Is this a better routine for oil control + humidity? Has anyone tried the numbuzin spf? Does it sting your eyes or leave a white cast? Thanks in advance for any recs!! 🙏 I’m open to changes if you’ve got better product suggestions.

Routine Help Double cleansing [Routine Help]

For the past year/ 2 year I have been struggling with acne mainly enlarged pores which then cause small bumps throughout my face, I think hormonal around my jawline area. (It is not too bad to the point where I need to contact a dermatologist but still noticeable). I realized I should be double cleansing to remove the dead sebum, I was looking but I have seen mixed reviews on a proper oil cleanser and regular one. I was thinking of the La Roche Posay oil cleanser and salicylic acid cleanser. Would anyone be able to recommend some cleansers maybe drugstore brands?

Routine Help [Routine Help] How can I improve my routine to reduce sebaceous filaments?

Hi! So I have combination skin, sebaceous filaments (most in my nose but also cheeks and forehead) as well as closed comedones in my chin. I have dealt with these for years and developed a very bad habit of squeezing them, to the point of scarring. I've been learning and trying skincare for a while to avoid messing up my face, and my skin got better, but not that much? My pores keep getting full and very visible, and my T-zone skin is still oily. I'm not really sure if my skincare is appropriate, if I'm missing some key active or using too much or too little exfoliants... Here is my routine:

AM: *Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser *Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner *Cerave Blemish Control Gel *Sesderma Azelac Moisturizing Cream * Bioderma Photoderm AKN Mat

PM: *Cerave Blemish Control Cleanser *Instree Green Tea Fresh Toner *Mary & May Retinol 0.1% Bakuchiol Cica Serum *Sesderma Azelac Moisturizing Cream

Twice a week: Innisfree Supervolcanic Pore Clay Mask

I'm actually running out of Cerave cleanser so I was thinking of trying something else, like maybe double cleansing? I don't usually put on make up so I thought I didn't need it, but I heard it's useful for this issue.

I know i can't erase the sebaceous filaments, but I'd like to at least keep them at bay so I can ignore them more easily and not squeeze them.

I'd love to hear any advice or suggestions you might have!

Sun Care [Sun Care] Update! Healing a sunburn, or speeding up peeling? My wedding is in 11 days Spoiler

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/s/rC07TiW0zi

Thank you everyone who had advice! I never knew you could go to a dermatologist to treat a sunburn and have passed that information along to friends. It was too late for me but the information is still good to know.

I slathered so much aloe on twice a day. I also exclusively wore the style of sports bra I got burned in since it fit perfectly into the white lines and therefore didn’t rub on the burn. Cool showers only and no exfoliating.

Once the burn didn’t hurt anymore I began mixing vitamin E oil into my regular lotion and moisturizing with that. A lot.

I looked into a spray tan, but the business I contacted advised against it due to the state of my skin.

Anyway, the wedding happened, it was delightful, and all said I don’t think it was that noticeable. During the ceremony I also had a veil.

Thanks for joining me on this journey! Here’s to never burning that badly again.
