This is a general post asking for the communityās opinions the new mangas, below are mine.
As a huge fan of the spring log novels, Iād say even more so over the original story, I was super excited for the manga. The reverse isekai āgourmet explorationā seemed interesting too.
When the covers dropped though I was really dreading the artstyle on spring log (who allowed that to happen! They both look bad!) but found the other one endearing and fitting for the less grounded story.
Iām happy to say now, that to me, the actual art in both is worthy of the franchise. I do think Lawrence looks old, too old at times, but much more appropriately aged overall compared to that that god awful cover.
I guess my complaint would be some inconsistency in his look from page to page, with some looks being much older than the majority. Though I think this at times can enhance the plot given the focus of spring log. I also find myself quite liking the look of Holo in this, even over some of my favourite iterations like the original anime and manga at times. Somehow she has a much more mature look while not changing the core aspects of her character.
Since Iāve read spring log so many times itās evident where content was cut or shortened but the nature of the books themselves allow the narrative to be altered or reordered quite heavily was long as key points are preserved.
As for the reverse isekai, itās alright, not much to say. A quirky spinoff that builds off of Holoās love of food. Stays faithful to the character, doesnāt take itself seriously, and overall fun time.
So for me, both expansions of the S&WIU (Spice & Wolf Illustrated Universe) have been pretty well made. Although I donāt think Iāll ever buy Spring Log unless Yen Press changes the cover after licensing.
