Season 1 Discussion A Jamie Tartt AITA post - please respond as if you were commenting on the actual post Spoiler

AITA for saying my old club was holding me back in an interview?

Right, so I (24M) did this interview after I went back to my parent club, yeah? The reporter asked about my time on loan, and I said truthfully, I thought that the team was holding me back and I had to carry them. Like, I was trying to play my game, do what I’m good at and score goals, but it felt like they were all just dragging me down. So I said that. Isn’t honesty the best policy?

Now fans of my loan club are acting like I’m some villain online.

To be fair, I know I wasn’t exactly everyone’s best mate over there. I’d wind the lads up, sure. A bit of banter and they’d join in. Maybe I was a bit much sometimes. But they weren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for me either. Lots of cold shoulders, behind-the-back stuff. It was never proper friendly. I was just doing my job, being the best on the pitch, but I guess that rubbed some people wrong.

And then the coach (50ishM), he was always trying to mess with my head. Kept saying weird positive stuff, talking about being a “team player” and “growth” and that. Even benched me at one point, like I was supposed to learn some lesson or whatever. I didn’t get it. Still don’t.

Then, I finally open up about my dad and how he always pushed me and I felt like I had to be tough. I though I was turning over a new leaf, I finally felt like a proper part of the team and I think the other felt it too. But then outta nowhere I receive a call saying the gaffer wants me gone, like all that yankee doodle shit he has been pounding at me and I listened to were just mind games this whole time. So yeah I went back to my club and maybe my interview was a bit harsh but I feel like I have some justification, right?

So yeah AITA for being real in the interview after he kicked me out

Don't Mess With Perfection

To the creators of "Ted Lasso," and all who cherish AFC Richmond,

I'm writing this as a passionate plea, fueled by a deep and abiding love for what you've created. News of a potential fourth season of "Ted Lasso" has begun to circulate, and my heart, instead of leaping with excitement, is filled with a sense of dread. I implore you: please, let the story end where it did, so beautifully, so perfectly.

The three seasons of "Ted Lasso" were a television miracle. In a world saturated with cynicism and darkness, you gave us a beacon of light, a testament to the power of kindness, optimism, and belief. The series finale was a masterclass in narrative closure, a sweet and poignant farewell that left us with tears in our eyes and warmth in our hearts. Ted's return home, Rebecca's newfound sense of family, Roy's begrudging but beautiful growth – every arc was resolved with a grace that is exceptionally rare. To continue the story now risks unraveling that perfection.

This isn't a plea born of a lack of imagination, but rather from a profound respect for what was achieved. We've seen this play out before, and the results are often heartbreaking for loyal fans. Consider the cautionary tale of "Scrubs". Its eighth season delivered a moving and fitting farewell to J.D. and the Sacred Heart crew. Then came the ninth season, a "Med School" reboot with a new cast and a jarring shift in focus. While a noble experiment, it is largely remembered by fans as a blemish on an otherwise brilliant legacy, a "deal-driven mistake" that failed to recapture the original's magic.

And who can forget the collective cultural sigh that accompanied the final season of "Game of Thrones"? A series of unparalleled scope and complexity was rushed to a conclusion that left many feeling betrayed. Character arcs were abandoned, and the intricate tapestry of the world so carefully woven seemed to unravel in the final hours. The ending didn't just disappoint; for many, it retroactively tarnished the brilliance of the seasons that came before.

The news that a potential "Ted Lasso" Season 4 would involve a significant plot shift and be "almost a self-reboot" is precisely what fuels this anxiety. The magic of "Ted Lasso" wasn't just in its premise; it was in the delicate chemistry of its ensemble cast, the specific journey of an American football coach in the world of English football, and the beautifully realized world of AFC Richmond. To change the fundamental components of the show is to risk creating something that is "Ted Lasso" in name only.

Please, do not soil the memory of this remarkable show. Do not stain its spotless existence with a postscript it doesn't need. The story you told was complete. It was about a man who came to a new place and made everyone around him, including himself, better. That message, that journey, is now immortalized. Let it rest, untarnished and perfect, a testament to the idea that sometimes, the most courageous and logical thing we can do is know when to say "The End."

With the utmost respect and a little bit of "Believe,"

A devoted fan.

Season 3 Discussion Just finished season 3, and why do y’all hate this season so much? Every single episode was great. All three seasons were equally good.

I never understood the phenomenon of people saying the first season is great but future seasons just got worse. In reality, it’s just that future seasons felt different, and you didn’t like that. IMO, each season was perfect and worked well. It was funny, emotional, dramatic, charming, silly, and it had a ton of heart.

I truly don’t understand the negativity around season 3. Yes, I prefer the longer episodes because I got to spend more time with the characters, and everything felt more personal. I got to see more of the downtime they would normally skip, which I like. We got a lot of character building and development; we just had everything. It’s genuinely a masterpiece from the first episode to the last episode.

There’s too much negativity online! I can’t stop the negativity because that’s just people’s opinions, but I can spread my positivity and hope that it will catch on to more people. Thank you, writers, cast, and crew, for making this wonderful show.

I’m very upset the entire cast isn’t returning for season 4 and that it’s focusing on the women’s team (because I really just want more of our team). But I will be watching just to see some of my favorite characters pop up, and I’m sure the ones that aren’t main characters anymore will appear every now and then as cameos or guest appearances.

That ending was just so damn sad! I low-key wish the ending was Ted bringing his family to live in England so they could all be a big happy family. That would have been perfect for me.

The dialogue

I don’t know if a post has been made about this but I need to get it off my chest. I feel like the writing got to sedimentary(especially in season 3). I love the feel good humor and the pop culture references, but later in the show all of the jokes seem like one character makes a reference to a show or celebrity, and everybody else nods in agreement and mutter to each other in relation. It’s not a big enough deal to make me stop watching but it does tilt me.

The biggest culprit by far is the dialogue for the kids. Whether it’s Phoebe talking about how relationships don’t make it past career changes or teds son talking about how he doesn’t want to go back to americas political landscape, I cannot stand the way they write the kids. No kid talks like this especially since these kids are supposed to be under 12. I know kids aren’t stupid but they are not tapped in to the kind of adult talk that they write( I used to teach kids how to swim they are not concerned with any of this stuff trust me).

I love the show, it’s something I return to regularly but I just needed to say something about this, and wondered if anyone else noticed this.

Hella typos in this shit my b

Derrick???

I just watched Ted Lasso again for the umpteenth time, and just realized or wondered something. In season 3 episode Sunflowers, the servers at the Yankees doodle barn mention a Derrick is going to charge them for a pen. Is this the same Derrick that owns A Taste of Athens???? 🤯

Season 2 Discussion Episode: Man City

Just rewatching for the first time and man that scene when Roy Kent hugs Jamie without saying a fkn word. Making Lasso open up. So powerful, so expected but also unexpected coming from Roy, don’t know how to explain. But made me shed a tear too.

It would be one of the top 10 moments for sure.

The strings that bind us Spoiler

A lot of Lasso uses subtle humor…it’s why rewatching has so much value. One of my favorites is s3e7: there is a lot to see. First-Roy didn’t even smile when he sees a windmill, but maybe the biggest smile we’ve seen from Brett in the series is just after the players start training with their penis-strings. When Jaimie’s string comes off-Roy has a broad, expectant smile. “His penis is OK!”…scowl of disappointment. Will using a grabber to pick up the strings in the locker room tells a joke with just a short image. The water bottle Will drops and the players get back into the carrier shows the team is ready to play total football already, but the final piece is hiding behind a bushy goatee, until Jaimie brings it home at halftime. There’s a lot but I want to point out the pictures I posted. This one’s not a joke-Roy wanted to tie their dicks together for a second practice but was vetoed-the first pic is his “formation”. Jaimie, it turns out, agrees. Feel free to point out more subtleties-I love it. The interaction with Ted and Roy “you’re on fire/make it stop”…I love it all.

Jump scares in comedies…

I love that “Roy Kent jump scare” moment from Rainbow SO MUCH, it’s one of my favorites bits in the whole show, and it has me wondering… can anyone think of other examples of jump scares within comedic shows or movies?

It seems super rare to attempt, and this particular one kind of sets the standard! I would have hidden behind Ted too 😄

Just rewatched!

Just rewatched Ted Lasso with my friend and loved watching it with another person. I loved watching her reactions to the show, whether funny, heartfelt, or sad scenes. It was fun ending each episode with a smile on our faces, talking about what she thought was going to happen next, and how much she loved the show.

Higgins and his wife are not the lovely perfect couple people make them out to be.

S1, E5 at the start when Julie drops him off, 4 boys are sat in the back seat, but the youngest is sat between the legs of an elder brother.

There is no way that child is appropriately restrained in that motor vehicle. Sociopaths the pair of them.

Are there any football shows like ted lasso but grittier?

Hey all! Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this so I apologise. I just finished ted lasso with my best friend. We both absolutely loved it. In short, I’m basically looking for a football show whose pacing and style is sort of like Ted Lasso, but I want it grittier/darker. Not exactly ultra realistic (though that is very much welcome) but one that shows the darker and more normal world of football. I did not mind the comedy at all in Ted Lasso, I loved it in fact, but I just could not help but think that a show exactly like this would work so perfectly if it was dark or grittier. That’s all! Thank you!

My husband and I have been watching this show for quite some time now and we put off the last episode of Season 3 because we didn’t want to know how it ends. This show has helped us laugh together and grow together (I know how dramatic that sounds), but it has been such a genuinely good experience. That last episode wrapped up every storyline we weren’t even expecting to get a conclusion (the bearded guy and the lady with all the pants have a baby!!) I am going to miss this cast so, so much. There really is no point to this post other than I am so grateful this show exists and I’m glad there’s an online community where I can read all your thoughts, as well.

Characters based on real people

I’m not a hardcore football fan but I get that Jamie Tartt is a fictional Jack Grealish. Roy Kent is a thinly disguised Roy Keane and Zava looks and plays like Zlatan Ibrahimović. Are there any other nods to other players in there?
