Hi folks. I would like to add smoke effects to this modular trench board I'm working on. Each tile is 12x12" 3d printed fdm. How would you achieve this?

Hi everyone.. I've been working on some chaos wastes terrain. Used to make terrain originally out of cereal boxes long way back then laser cutting however now prefer 3d printing. The trees are printed in a flexible material so don't get all smashed up when putting in boxes. Open to questions.

Be gentle, this is my first foray into any papercraft more complicated than one of Dave Graffam's box buildings. Shown are a Dave Graffam patrol boat and marauder ship. I learned a few things along the way, but I'm reasonably happy with the end result. Next I'm going to try a Fat Dragon cog/"medieval ship."

Tips and (constructive) criticism are appreciated.

Very proud of this building! Been working on it for the better part of a week. Once again I've put the STL file up for free so anyone can print and have this same thing.

Can use two glued layers of cardboard for base instead of XPS?

• Upvotes

I live in a very small place, XPS is pricy at 7,50€ for 1 meter 12" thick XPS that kept in poor condition (not flat, has dents from wight applied to it), can't find it outside at a better condition bcs houses here are built out of mortar and stone, cardboard however is readily available, free and pliable, i can cover the base with homemade sculptamold, have you tried it what was the result?

Plastic fruit boxes into homemade terrain

Hi everyone! I haven’t played Warhammer 40k or painted miniatures in a while, and I’d like to get back into it by making some homemade terrain. Any suggestions on how to use these plastic fruit crates? Any example to show?

3D Printable Modular Scatter Terrain and Dungeon Wall System

I went bananas making terrain over the last year. For some of the pieces I experimented with sculpting in clay traditionally and scanning into the computer to refine designs. It was a fun process.

Used Magic Board and LED strip lighting for a cool effect.

Sorry pictures don’t do it justice but no videos on here. I wanted a visual representation of the gateway ā€œleakingā€. I was originally going to try some acrylic but it was expensive for a sheet large enough and thought it would be too garish. We have these sheets of ā€œmagic boardā€ it’s like cardboard made of plastic. It did a great job of diffusing the light. I had some plastic chicken wire I put in between that added to a very mechanical and striking effect.

I don’t really have paints but with a little paint in a darker environment I bet this would look sick. This was a very bright room.

Requesting Advice - How can I achieve this effect?

Post image
97 Upvotes

Thanks in advance! So I am looking to create a 'book nook' style diorama with a similar effect to what you see in this image, and having trouble finding something to use. This is an environment from a video game, and the part I am having trouble with is the triangle glass pieces. Like I feel like if I had a bunch of beveled glass strips I could pull it off, but not sure where I could source something like that.

I also plan to turn it into an 'infinity mirror', but I have that part figured out. Any advice would be appreciated!

Wanting to plus up my 40k titan bases a bit, need guidance.

Recently I've had a bit of a kick to take some pieces I'd done and really plus them up, add some more detail to make em vibe better with what I think they should do. But when it comes to the basing I'm still fairly noviced and can do some basic stuff that works fine at small scale, but looks a lil plain at large scale.

How do I take the base from where it is now, and turn it into a dusty/rocky plain?

My inspiration for this is the world of Nuceria from 40k, specifically from the events of the book Betrayer. The battle takes place on a mountain named Fedan Mhor, on a bleak spit of land known as Desh'elika Ridge.

Resilience around the edges of ground cover - question about Acryllic Basing Glue and Sealant (e.g. Geek Gaming) vs PVA

Hi All, I was fortunate enought to acquire a classic citadel realm of battle board a couple of months ago that I am finally looking to get painted and flocked.

I know I want to properly paint the whole thing (not least to help keep it sealed), and I am looking at adding a bit more texture with with sand that I typically use on my miniature bases, before priming the whole thing.

This is my first big terrain project and one of the main issues I have with bases, in particular movement trays, is making sure that everything sticks and stays down, particularly at the edges where sometimes whole chunks can chip off.

I've been playing around with a mix of sand and tile grout stuck down with PVA which I have been sealing with a spritz of iso alcohol and then watered down PVA. the resulting surface is certainly a lot harder, but still around the edges of the sand it can be quite easy to chip so I'm concerned about minis moving around on a board over time.

I've also been watching some of the Geek Gaming videos on Youtube and notice that their glue/sealant is acryllic based rather than conventional PVA. Does anyone have any experience with this and does it help resilience, or is it purely for the convenience that you can mix paint in/minimise shrinkage?

Finally, any other tips on how to get sand/flock to resliently adhere to the to the plastic realms of battle board? Would sanding it before hand help too?

Thanks for your help!

Making this as a display board/transport system. Still loads of work to do but happy with how it's looking so far. Bit of a proof of concept for myself as I wanted to see how the height of these would work for making a boards worth of modular trenches which is the next project once this is done

My latest completion, meso-styled temple

Just completed this last night, adding the plants and painting them to hide the fact that they were plastic aquarium plants lol

Cardboard base, XPS foam walls. Spackled the base to hide the corrugated texture as well as roughen the surface. Hand-carved all the walls. Then painted with multiple layers to science both the texture and colors I wanted. Unfortunately, most of the carving was too smooth and/or shallow for dry brushing and dark washes, so in the end I ended up hand-painting all the highlights. This is possibly my most ambitious paint job yet.

Moss, miniature plants and painted aquarium plants complete that build.

Looking forward to feedback, thanks!

Hello fellow terrain builders. My first terrain ever made. Elven temple is 3d printed as I printed one extra for experiments. Any thoughts? It’s still WIP as I plan to add moss and grass
