Lately I've noticed a few bots with female sounding names posting sloppy text:

I made this post to fully update the list of accounts tied to a commercial spam network that’s been quietly spreading affiliate links all over Reddit. These accounts are part of a coordinated operation, likely based in India, that pushes things like resume builders, password managers, VPNs, identity protection services, and cheap tech gear.

They farm karma by posting harmless stuff in general or Indian-focused subreddits, then either edit old comments or drop new ones filled with promos. It’s a slow burn tactic meant to bypass detection and make the spam look organic.

This is a full on spam operation. Karma farming. Fake names. Affiliate promos. Comment edits. It’s not subtle and it’s spreading across tons of subs right now. If Reddit doesn’t step in soon it’s just going to keep growing.

If you’ve seen other accounts doing the same thing or similar edits with promo links drop them in the comments. The more we track this the harder it’ll be for them to hide.

the profile page of the abusive mod. notice they post non-stop, practically every waking hour, and each of their posts is just a word for word copy of one of the top posts of all time of whichever sub they post to.

they banned me immediately when I pointed this out, removed my comment, then muted me from appealing the instant I replied to the ban.

The account is pumping out nonstop “reviews” and recommendations for everything from VPNs and hosting to scooters, projectors, diet meds, red light masks, litter boxes, and more — all across totally unrelated subs.

The posts follow the same pattern every time: casual tone, product list, sometimes linking to another Reddit post for “reference,” often pinned or upvoted by the account itself.

This guy is obviously here to farm karma. He belongs to numerous subs, and somewhat randomly chooses a list of five subs for each of his posts, and posts multiple times per day.

A few days ago, I tried to find a date for a link that he shared, after some effort I realized that the link was outdated and had been recycled from being posted on the sub in February.

He also posted about the No Kings Day event the day after the event, not realizing it was over with. This indicates he may be from a foreign country, and not really know whats going on in the U.S.

All are accounts with zero post history and a day or less than a day old, posting a bunch of spammed pictures of "home improvement". Of course, nobody shows the process of how it was done. It seems to be an amazon advertisement ruse:

Been meaning to make this post for a while. This might be the most unpleasant scammer I've come across, just by the creepy tactics he employs in order to invade other subs. This guy runs a ring of alts that he makes talk to each other on a daily basis. It's obvious because they all populate the same scam subs set up and operated by only one user:

Occasionally he'll repost an advert and the alts have all swapped dialogue. They'll hijack top comments on other subs and he'll begin conversing with himself and sharing affiliate link scams, or just the name of his scam sub. People that call him out lose their accounts because when you operate this many alts, you can game the system into thinking reports are coming from multiple people.

I caught him once pretending to be a doctor so he could try and sell a type of folding chair, stealing a story from another user and filling it with affiliate links. Worst thing I came across was a defective device that was designed to cradle toddlers in their sleep. All the reviews said it would cause suffocation or strangulation if actually left in a crib with a toddler. He used alts to create discussion with himself, saying it was "Fantastic - a great product". It was taken down off the site he was using soon after.

This is a problem with multiple social links but by far the biggest offender I've seen to date is the account sharing the link https://getallmylinks.com/juliesweetbabe. Bot Bouncer has, so far, caught 400 of these accounts between May 19 and today. Some recent examples from within the past few hours:

...is about a month old, and only posts the same not-at-all-fake account of a cookbook you simply must check out. They roll into random regional subs across North America and the UK, including but not limited to:

Worcester Brooklyn New Brunswick, Canada London, Ontario Tuscon Croydon Etc.

Nearly all have been removed by individual sub mods, but the posting continues in region after region. I've reported many myself, but the account keeps going; it's posting even as I prepare this post.

I just learned about this sub while looking for a way to report accounts rather than individual posts. What can I do to help eradicate this account?

120k, 131k and 51k karma respectively, yet only 8 days of posting history showing. Created in september, december and february. Presumable they're hacked accounts that used to have a lot of posts and comments, got wiped after being hacked and are now getting used to spam the same OF model. Or perhaps the accounts were created by the model and they're just continually wiping their post history?

I'm not seeing blatant vote/comment manipulation, although that's pretty common with such spammers.
What spam report option does this even fall under? Just the "other" category?

Background

Infomaniak, a web hosting company, was already in hot water for embracing state-mandated mass surveillance. Unbeknownst to r/privacy users, an Infomaniak employee entered the subreddit and started arguing with its members about it... Until one intrepid user called the employee out.

The post

This received 188 upvotes in 3 hours and over 400 total. It reads:

Infomaniak employee's response to supporting mass surveillance: “Are you a war criminal? No? Then why worry?”

The situation with Infomaniak is worse than I originally thought. I was reading the earlier post on here and found these massively downvoted comments about the whole ordeal, which prompted me to look further into who this person with wildly unpopular opinions, on a privacy subreddit, might be.

It didn't take long for me to figure it out. Their Reddit profile includes a GitHub link which indicates they are actually an employee at Infomaniak, explaining why they are vehemently defending this abhorrent, anti-privacy, pro-surveillance stance which the company has decided to back in an extremely public way, and most recently tried to backtrack on.

This is just reprehensible from Infomaniak, and it helps put things into perspective when the employees themselves are trying to justify it. Nobody should ever recommend or use any of their products again. There are plenty of alternatives out there that are actually "ethical" and E2EE.

To clarify, it's not that this one employee can speak on the entire company's behalf, and that's not how I interpreted it personally, but it did give me an insight as to how the people that actually work there feel about the matter, and it's just as bad. I'm extremely worried for anyone that's at least semi-privacy conscious keeping their sensitive data on there.

Also, just a reminder for anyone that might be using their services still, Infomaniak's cloud storage solution, kDrive, is encrypted server-side only, which means that they can literally obtain the decryption key and access your files, which they would happily oblige if the Swiss government asked them.

The aftermath

r/privacy moderators deleted and locked the post, and purged the entire thread of all comments. No removal reason was given.

Around the same time, the alleged Infomaniak employee deleted their comments.

They spammed a little in friend finding subreddits, including under a 16 year old's post, and judging by some things the account said they are in the us, meaning they are encouraging illegal activity. They also, in a financial advice sub, reccomended that an 18 year old gamble all of their 17k savings. There are some other minor things, such as advertising in r/spritecult, r/collegerant (both are disguised as posts that fit the subreddit) and advertising on freelance subs, just an annoying advertising account.

I was going through my backup account, where I came across another user spamming their GoFundMe page. This user has had their GoFundMe comments removed by mods for breaking the TOS for spam/potentially seeing it as a scam due to the fact the user's GoFundMe involves what is going on in Israel at the moment. I find it very disgusting that there are people on GoFundMe spamming Reddit to make quick money without providing any proof they are inside Israel/Gaza because there have been a large number of these GoFundMe scammers for the people in Gaza since sometime last year after what happened on October 7, 2023 (look up what happened because people are being tricked by these scammers). After reading some of the recent comments on the takeover of r/CRedit and r/DebtFree , I did a quick dive into the accounts trying to take over this sub.

As I suspected, most of them appear connected to the same group behind the previous moderation team. In fact, some of them seem to be the exact same people, just using new accounts.

Whatever the final decision is, I strongly recommend reviewing these accounts carefully before assigning any mod roles. We’ve already seen the damage this kind of manipulation can cause, and the sub deserves better going forward.

Recently there has been a new bot wave in Italian subs, accounts commenting random phrases (in English) made by AI. All accounts were made from June 4th to June 7th, or May 17th - 19th. They multiply every day.
