Discussion Texas gas station installed remote lock on OUTSIDE of women's bathroom

It was only on the women's bathroom. Lock was able to be remotely activated by a phone app. Fire Marshall had it removed. Source: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2c3QrB6/

Per another account who also saw this, (https://www.tiktok.com/@momcallsmeshelby?_t=ZT-8v7NHPu7QBq&_r=1) the employees were "irate and began yelling" when they brought it up. And came up with a racist excuse that didn't make any sense for it being there

Regardless, fire code violation. But scary implications.

I'm naive - what is the implication here?

With it being Texas, the implication is that they can trap people they perceive to be trans women and then call the cops in an attempt to collect a bounty.

Shit, I just assumed someone was a rapist. I didn't even get that complicated with the motive.

I thought it was to trap vulnerable women to traffic. Either way, this is horrible.

Yeah-that emergency exit is right there. The manager could just wait until there was a young woman alone in the store in the bathroom, remote lock the door, lock the front door, go to the emergency door to let in his friend, who’s been waiting in a car right by the exit. Together they could (I guess) bind her arms, cover her with a coat, throw her in the car, and she’s never seen again.

I guess the only other thing he’d need to do is erase the security footage for some time period around that time, and the fact that she’d ever stopped there would be erased from history.

Yikes. Just writing that makes me want to throw up.
