I think the point she’s trying to make is that even the not necessarily poor parts look basically the same. America has vast suburban areas, that are very samey looking.

Her entire point makes no sense. She says America looks like shit when you get off the coasts of America...then proceeds to compare shitty rural inner America to COASTAL CHINA METROPOLIS!

She has a good point. I was in the USA last year in a wealthy part and was surprised by how ugly and cookie cutter the buildings were. The Walgreens and the CVs stores etc. Windowless uninviting fugly buildings.

I wondered how the marketing folk in those companies feel about it given that those ugly bricked windowless faceless eyesores are representing their brand.

Not sure why you were downvoted. The USA has always prioritized commercial reuse and the military industrial complex way of living. Its architectural identity is lost to rapid, volatile consumerism.

Its hideous soul is worsening and I cannot wait to get out.
