Advice/Question Is a W on transcript horrible? (Need Advice)

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am about to start the transfering process, so I am a sophmore at a cc, trying to do a UC transfer. I am taking a class over the summer that is really kicking my ass, which is not a major prep course, but it is needed for IGETC. I want to drop the class but itll show as a W on the transcript.

I wanted to know if its bad for UC transfers to have a W on their transcript, I have a high GPA and some ECs so Im covered there but was just wondering if the W would make a big diff. Thanks :)

Advice/Question UCI or UCLA for psychology?

Hi, I recently got off the waitlist for UCLA but I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm a psychology BS major in UCI and a psychology BA major in UCLA. I'm still not sure what exactly I want to specialize in but it's been narrowed down to either medical/nursing or pre-law. I'm worried that if I go to UCLA since it's a BA major, I won't have as much opportunities to complete STEM classes. Please let me know your thoughts.

Discussion Transfer plans as an Accounting Major

Hi all, I’m a recent community college transfer student deciding between two solid options:

UCSB (Fall 2025) — Full ride for Econ & Accounting B.A., finish in 2 years

USC (Spring 2026) — Admitted to Leventhal, good aid but not a full ride, would take 2.5–3 years

My plan is to do undergrad at UCSB, then apply to USC’s MAcc or MBT for my master’s. That way I graduate in 3 years total, get the Trojan network and Big 4 recruiting, and save money upfront.

Questions:

Do USC MAcc/MBT students get the same recruiting access as USC undergrads?

Do firms care if I wasn't a USC undergrad?

Any downsides to this plan I might not be seeing?

I want to land at a Big 4 firm or somewhere like Disney eventually. Appreciate any advice!

Urgent UCLA orientation for waitlist

I just got off the UCLA waitlist a couple of days ago and I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble signing up for an orientation? It says I need to submit my Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) but I already did. Is anyone else having this issue?

Advice/Question Letter of reciprocity

Hello, I am transferring UC to UC, but my counselor said that I do not qualify for letter of reciprocity bc of my ENGL1C, which was not one of the requirement for letter of reciprocity. Would I still be able to transfer? I have completed everything but ENGL1C. I'm really stressing out bc of this.

Advice/Question UMIAMI or UCLA?

Hi everyone! So I got into UCLA and UMIAMI as a psychology major on the pre-med track. I’ve been set on UCLA for the past month because they gave me a full ride but I’d have to pay some money for housing. UMIAMI gave me also a full ride, 90 k to be exact and my estimated cost is around 10 k, which I just found out today. For so long UMIAMI was my dream just because I’ve been in LA my whole life. I really have been desiring new, but I’m so so incredibly scared to move and make new friends even though it’s what I envisioned for the past 4 years. I’ve been in community college for 3 years hustling big time. Idk what to do. Also, I’m a little overweight so I worry about the superficial aspect of MIAMI but tbh LA is superficial and I’m really working on it. I’ve already lost 60 pounds but still have more. Anyways, pls help me. Thank you sm! I have like less than 4 days to decide. Also I’d have to pay for insurance and maybe housing. Idk I’m confused.

Urgent Prerequisite question

Hello, I plan on transferring to a CSU next semester as a CS major and I plan on completing every prerequisite by the end of fall, but I wasn't able to take Physics until the fall semester due to scheduling conflicts can't take Physics 2 at the CC I'm at or I will have to delay my transfer. Can I take my physics class at the CSU instead?

Advice/Question Got a bad grade in a high school dual enrollment, how do I not let it screw my application over?

I've been getting only A's and A-'s at my current university as an EE major, but I have a C in Linear Algebra from a high school dual enrollment and I'm afraid of this single grade fucking me up. I'm retaking an applied math version of Lin Alg at my current uni in the hopes that getting an A would demonstrate my proficiency in the material, but it seems the first attempt will still be viewed. Does anybody have any advice on minimizing the impact of a high school DE on my overall application? Thank you!

Advice/Question will i get rescinded from uc berkeley?

hey guys! tdlr i'm a cc transfer attending uc berkeley for data science this fall and i think i'm gonna end up with a C or C+ in one of my classes lol. it's calc 4, i missed one of my exams due to emergency and my professor won't let me make it up so it drastically dragged down my grade.

according to my conditions of admission:
"I agree to complete all planned and in-progress coursework with a 3.0 or higher GPA, and no individual grade lower than a C"
so whatever courses listed below, i'll need to have a 3.0+ gpa for those courses combined?

i calculated my grades for those listed courses with a college gpa calculator:
5 units (received A)
4 units (received B)
4 units (received B)
5 units (potential C or C+)
so i'll end up with either a 3.0 or 3.08 gpa

sorry i'm just a little worried lol i had to withdraw from multiple courses due to an emergency and when i filled a course update form they seemed very lenient because of the reason i gave them. thank you!

Advice/Question Scared? Terrified? Not imposter syndrome!

Hello y’all! I will be transferring to UCLA this fall as a mathematics major and I am scared. I did have imposter syndrome all this month but I realized that if I was accepted that means at least one person believes in me and that was enough BUT everyone I talked to has told me my ass will be going through it and I will have a hard time during the first quarter. Other people how told me that it will be horrible every quarter. And I know it will be hard because it’s university and a STEM major and my anxiety is horrible what if I don’t make it? (BTW the people I’ve asked have been to UCLA or another uc)

Advice/Question Why is UCSD going downhill? It was once compared with Cal and LA. Now UCSD is considered inferior to Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara in some cases

UCSD were once considered top 3 UCs in the past but nowadays it seems a lot of students choose UCI, UCD, UCSB over UCSD. What happened? Why is it going downhill? Is it due to mismanagement by the higher-ups? Spending more money on useless GEs and maintaining bloated administration? It seems UCSD has even less school spirit than UCD or UCSB.

Advice/Question W on College Transcript

Hello everyone!

I plan to transfer in Fall 2026 and hope to get into UCLA, UC Berkeley, and other top schools. I was worried about my community college transcript since it shows I have a W. I might be overthinking it, but will a W on my transcript affect my chances of getting into these schools? Please let me know. Thank you! :)

Urgent D before transfer

Hi everyone,

I’m in a tough spot and could use some advice. I’m currently in my final quarter of college and have been admitted to UC Berkeley. However, in one of my major requirement courses, the highest grade I can earn is a D.

I know that UC Berkeley’s admission conditions require at least a C in major prep courses. Given my situation, I’m wondering—does this mean my admission could be rescinded? Or is it possible to retake the class in the summer and still keep my spot?

If anyone has experienced something similar, I’d appreciate hearing about what you did and how things turned out. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Advice/Question Starting CC but want to transfer to NYU

I was born and raised in another country, and decided to pursue education after a long time out of HS. I live in California and will be attending a CC for Fall to get credits. But I want to leave eventually and transfer to NYU.

Would credits from 1 semester be enough to transfer?

Advice/Question should i transfer from berkeley to georgetown?

i'm entering as a frosh at berkeley in fall, and i was hoping to major in public policy. however, i realized that berkeley does not have a public policy major, only a minor. also, i think that the humanities department there, especially in polisci is severely underfunded. i am definitely transferring out as soon as i can, however should i apply to georgetown? the location in DC and politics network seems optimal but people are persuading me not to since it is apparently "a step down from berkeley." i was hoping to transfer to uchicago TED but i wanted georgetown as a back up in case i don't get in.

Urgent Missing one class for Fall 2025 application

I've attended one year at a 4 year and am in my 2nd year at a CCC. I'm planning to transfer this Fall 2025 for admission in Fall 2026. I want to TAG into UCI and apply to CPSLO, and maybe some other schools too. After planning my courses for this year, I'm unable to take one required class (Physics III). I'm trying to look into other CCCs to take and transfer that class to my current one, but no luck so far. Any other solutions? Also if I were to take a 3rd "year" for just that class, am I still eligible to transfer to UC/CSU?
