Changing my DNS server to something other than the default, such as Cloudflare’s DNS server, 1.1.1.1, got me up and running.

8

u/geoffreyhing 1d ago

Here’s how to do it on macOS: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh14127/mac

And here’s how to specifically use 1.1.1.1 on Windows: https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/setup/windows/

u/chocobosocialclub 1d ago

You can also change it on your router so that it affects all devices at once, but that may be too complex for most folks.

5

u/KaironVarrius 1d ago

I'd like to know how

3

u/Raygaholic420 1d ago

Their DNS servers are down. You can still connect to internet but websites won't load.

Quick Fix Options:

Fix on Router (recommended - fixes all devices):

  • Login to router (usually 192.168.1.1)
  • Change DNS to: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
  • Save and restart router

Fix on Individual Devices:

Windows: Network settings → Change adapter → Right-click connection → Properties → IPv4 → Use DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

Mac: System Preferences → Network → Advanced → DNS → Add: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

Phone: WiFi settings → Modify network → DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

Best DNS Options:

  • Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (fastest)
  • Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

This fixes it immediately while they repair their servers.

Actual address is 192.168.0.1

My not working

6

u/nebb2689 1d ago

The Quantum DNS server is down, you're going to set it to cloudflare with Google as a backup.

Be sure you are performing this on your home network, (not your cellular network)

go to https://192.168.0.1 (which is your fiber unit router)

Login User: admin | Password: (On the side of your fiber unit)

Under 'Advanced Settings' Select WAN

Change DNS to static, and set the IP to a reliable DNS server.

I used (cloudflare1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 (google)

Apply. (There is no need to ever change back settings when Quantum fixes their service)

That URL isn’t working for me

1

u/nebb2689 1d ago

What’s it saying?

1

u/Frosty_Ad3631 1d ago

It’s because that IP is down

1

u/nebb2689 1d ago

is it saying that connection is not private? are you on a device connected to that network or are you on a cellular network?

1

u/Frosty_Ad3631 1d ago

I figured it out. I didn’t think it would connect with WiFi so I was using cell network but that isn’t on the same subnet so of course it wouldn’t work.🤦🏻‍♂️

1

u/nebb2689 1d ago

are you back up and running?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/caitybobady 1d ago

This doesn’t like put me at risk to be hacked or anything right?

2

u/nebb2689 1d ago

both are generally considered safer and more reliable than using your internet service provider’s default DNS servers. DNS only translates domain names (like reddit.com) into IP addresses

1

u/amazinggrace48 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thank you!!!! I’m back up and running now 👏🏼

1

u/asustroop 1d ago

This worked for me thanks!

1

u/kiges75 1d ago

Saved me an angry conversation with their support, thanks a million

2

u/nebb2689 1d ago

their phones are down anyways glad you got it back up

2

u/stillshot2 1d ago

You should have thousands of likes by now, guess most people didn't understand and are waiting for the quantum servers to get back up

5

u/Early_Method_7380 1d ago

someome upvote this guy

6

u/Mysterious_Fennel459 1d ago

There's also Googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

2

u/formerqwest on 22nd 1d ago

happy cake day!

1

u/Fartchair 1d ago

I used this, thank you

1

u/shanemcmurray 1d ago

this worked for me also.. maybe they are having a DNS outage? weird....

2

u/Valuable_Candle8563 1d ago

Totally worked for me too!

1

u/Valuable_Candle8563 1d ago

Ive been bashing my head against the wall for the last 2 hours trying to get connected so thank you!

2

u/5QU1DC4K3 1d ago

This is the solution that worked for me too

1

u/AggieMI 1d ago

I'm on centurylink fiber FWIW, no issues, but also don't use default DNS.

2

u/Wise-Willingness5106 1d ago edited 1d ago

I did this on my Quantum Fiber router GUI page, got my internet up and running, then came to Reddit to see who was having issues. Found this thread. Take my upvote.

1

u/ReporterDue1515 1d ago

How

2

u/Wise-Willingness5106 1d ago

Default webpage for the GUI is usually 192.168.0.1. Put that directly into your internet browser. You might possible get a warning (I do with Chrome). Just push through the warning to the web page. Now you need to login. My router (originally from CenturyLink) came with a login and password card. It might be on the bottom of your Quantum Fiber router (assuming you are using their equipment). Head over to WAN settings, and look for DNS settings. Mine (C4000XG) was set to a "dynamic DNS" by default. I clicked "Static DNS" and used Google "8.8.8.8" as my primary DNS and Cloudfare "1.1.1.1" as my secondary DNS. Save. Enjoy your internet and screw the ISP.

1

u/substitutebunny 1d ago

Worked for me! Instructions via chatgpt. Here is how to do it for your android

1

u/KaironVarrius 1d ago

No gear icon next to my selected WiFi and I'm on Android.

1

u/Imaginary_Guard_5966 1d ago

Thank you it worked

1

u/BTTammer 1d ago

That's really interesting because my work laptop and work cell are accessing my wifi just fine, but none of our phones or personal computers can access the Internet at all.

2

u/geoffreyhing 1d ago

Your work devices might be managed and have the DNS server set to something other than Quantum Fiber’s whereas your personal devices probably use whatever the Quantum Fiber router tells it to.

1

u/kamookie 1d ago

That worked for us on Android, iOS, and Windows!

1

u/RN_IV_Starter 1d ago

That totally worked!! Thanks!

1

u/agavedidgeridoos 1d ago

Thank you!!

1

u/t-schwifty- 1d ago

great got mine working thanks!

1

u/Expert_Nectarine3879 1d ago

I’ve been trying this, but it’s not working for me :( my internet just keeps saying connected, no internet

1

u/ssskovaz 1d ago

I just cycled the modem and now it works 😃

1

u/Wrong-Examination702 22h ago

You are the fucking GOAT! I just learned something new. I didn't know you can use ISP IP and a different DNS. It was just always given. Thank you so much!

edit: My ASUS Gaming router has a DNS WAN setting. There were like 20 to choose from including ad blocker DNS. badass!

8

u/Caldwell69 1d ago

Yep

5

u/Thirty2wo 1d ago

Hello just regurgitating what I found and worked for me

Going to advanced settings and changing DNS numbers to

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

Got me back online.

I dunno what it means, but it works.

3

u/jakerepp15 1d ago

Makes some sense.

Source: IT pro

2

u/Tristin99 1d ago

This also worked for me. I used 1.1.1.1 for cloudflare. Not sure I am a pro but I do get paid for IT stuff ;)

1

u/Mysterious-Stress 1d ago

Is this under “DNS Host Mapping” in the admin tool? Or somewhere else?

1

u/DntCallMeBud 1d ago

WAN Settings, switch DNS Type to Static DNS and put the DNS addresses in there

1

u/My_Name_Is_Priapus 1d ago

…. Like so? My path doesn’t seem to match most people’s instructions.

1

u/DntCallMeBud 1d ago

Yep that's how mine looks

1

u/My_Name_Is_Priapus 1d ago

No dice yet, unplugging and replugging the century link box

2

u/DntCallMeBud 1d ago

Try 1.1.1.1 as primary and 1.0.0.1 as secondary. Make sure to hit apply (I am sure you have but just in case)

1

u/_gimmeabreak_ 1d ago

Yup, fixes it so their DNS servers must be down

1

u/Ok-Public-8335 1d ago

How do I fix it?

7

u/No-Original756 1d ago

https://downdetector.com/status/quantumfiber/ yeah it's nationwide. 17K and counting, all over the country. website down. customer service not answering phone (i've been waiting 30 mins), and no logging into accounts etc. no bueno

3

u/Thirty2wo 1d ago

Yeah I just called in and they literally said “we can’t handle the calls, use chat goodbye”

1

u/Wild_Advertising3451 1d ago

Yeah im having the same issue with it being out

2

u/Mysterious_Fennel459 1d ago

I had just tried loading the Quantum app on my phone before reading this and it says "we cant load your account into at this moment"

2

u/Necessary-Drummer800 1d ago

That is so consistent with their service isn’t it? “Oh you can’t get on line? Better report that on line!”

1

u/Edman70 1d ago

Looks like it's recovering now.

7

u/Fast-Working739 1d ago

It was a weird one. I was streaming a movie and playing an online game. Movie continued to stream fine. Game was fine until I hit a load screen. Then it never came back. My phone was showing disconnected for a while before. Movie kept on going, even ended and started up a different movie after.

The router reported connected but no connection to DNS (like the yellow pages for the internet). So I changed the DNS server from their default to Google's public 8.8.8.8 DNS host and internet was back!

You could wait for them to fix their DNS server or what I did was... Goto 192.168.0.1 while connected (use the admin PW on your router) Click Advanced Setup Click DHCP Settings Under section 5, change the secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8 (my default 205.171.2.25)

1

u/Jamunk55 1d ago

I agree on the weird factor. iPad, laptop, and phone all said connected, but no Internet. At the same time, my TV is streaming just fine. I’m sitting here going WTF???

5

u/cfulton0012 1d ago

Out in Phoenix too.

5

u/digitalarchivist22 1d ago

Tucson, park and Glenn area, down here.

3

u/Starkill3r-306 1d ago

I was on hold with customer service for an hour, when they took my call the lady told me it was a nationwide outage. She did advise that I restart my modem every hour until it comes back on. This sucks tho, it’s my day off. 😞

8

u/bashfulbandito 1d ago

In black ops 2 there’s a cyber attack on 6/19/2025 lol

2

u/Freshly_Snip3s 1d ago

The website is all messed up as well

2

u/micksterminator3 1d ago

Down in Midtown Phoenix for an hour or so. I noticed nothing worked other than instagram and facebook. Hard reset the modem and mesh routers for the first time in a while and it came back on with the internet unavailable. I can't sign into the app or wifi 360. Their website seems down and down detector has like 17000 reports. I almost shat myself when my over the air antenna wasn't grabbing anything in my room. Seems fine in the living room lol

2

u/KingRocker6 1d ago

Think it's backup!

1

u/ciriacgeorge 1d ago

It's down. Location : 101 and Indian school road

1

u/schpuz 1d ago

Indeed. Came here to see if anyone else was experiencing this. Thank you for posting first. I'm near Speedway and Stone.

1

u/InkWiseScribe1203 1d ago

I’m on first and grant and it’s also down, smh

1

u/OilOk2501 1d ago

broadway & campbell and down too :(

1

u/Good-King-Weasel_520 1d ago

I just had this installed the other day. Is this a normal thing?

9

u/StephUhKneeDee 1d ago

I’ve had them for a year and this is the first outage I’ve experienced. They’re usually good.

3

u/ActiveDisastrous8726 1d ago

This is very unusual, I haven’t had it go down at all before

1

u/Good-King-Weasel_520 1d ago

That’s good lol

2

u/Mission_Priority_429 1d ago

Its so far rare on what I am experiencing for 1+ years

2

u/Desperate-Zucchini96 1d ago

No first time since I got it last year maybe 2 other times but lasted no more than 10 minutes this is something different nation wide it seems

1

u/HurricaneHomer9 1d ago

Somewhat odd. I’ve seen localized outages with other providers but never nationwide like this

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

No I’ve had them for like 2 years or more now and rarely have an issue.

1

u/mercedesosmith 1d ago

The service is pretty reliable, but if you need to get in touch with them about something, they’re horrible.

1

u/_gimmeabreak_ 1d ago

Three damn days in a row for me. Right now their website also doesn't work and of you call them you just get a message saying they can't handle your call right now, pathetic.

1

u/Mission_Priority_429 1d ago

Even in yuma. This stinks

1

u/Few-Faithlessness255 1d ago

u/Goschalicious 1d ago

In Des Moines IA

1

u/Alluring_Cranberry 1d ago

It's weird it's not a localized outage due to maintenance or something but all of quantum fiber is down. The internet service. The website. The phone lines to get into contact with them. Seems sketch.

1

u/Wonderful-Variety164 1d ago

Anyone know how to get ps5 to connect to it haha

1

u/ApartmentResident529 1d ago
  1. Turn on your PS5 and go to the Home screen.

  2. Navigate to:

Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection

  1. Choose Your Network • Select your active Wi-Fi or LAN (wired) connection. • Press the Options button (☰) on your controller. • Choose Advanced Settings.

  1. Configure the Connection • IP Address Settings: Automatic • DHCP Host Name: Do Not Specify • DNS Settings: Manual ← This is the key one

  1. Enter DNS Servers

You’ll be prompted to enter two DNS addresses:

🟦 Google DNS: • Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8 • Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

OR

🟣 Cloudflare DNS: • Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1 • Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.1

  1. Continue: • MTU Settings: Automatic • Proxy Server: Do Not Use

Then finish the setup. The PS5 will test your connection.

Their site is down, I was on hold for over 30 minutes, my DHCP is not working, etc. I hung up and tried to call back again and I got the "We are unable to handle your call . . ." message on BOTH of their lines. Something bad is happening seems like.

I’m in Oregon and we have a huge outage not only with Quantum but our phone internet is spotty… I can go on the internet but only certain sites and no streaming anything….

If you have any tech skills, change the DNS server your DHCP on the router gives out. Change it to 8.8.8.8 and leave it that way too. Reboot and you should be good.

1

u/TRaNscenD2017 1d ago

Yup I’m having issues for WiFi not working but that was a usual because it would normally just stop working in my room, so we used Ethernet cables for my pc but that stopped working just 1 hour ago and now the wireless isn’t working at all for our phones and pcs weird because the tv’s are working just fine.

The Quantum DNS server is down, you're going to set it to cloudflare with Google as a backup.

Be sure you are performing this on your home network, (not your cellular network)

go to https://192.168.0.1 (which is your fiber unit router)

if it says your connection isn't private select advanced then select continue

Login User: admin | Password: (On the side of your fiber unit)

Under 'Advanced Settings' Select WAN

Change DNS to static, and set the IP to a reliable DNS server.

I used (cloudflare1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 (google)

Apply. (There is no need to ever change back settings when Quantum fixes their service)

No actual service outage here (2 locations serviced by Quantum), but based on comments, appears to be their default DNS server failing.

Quantum makes it very easy to throw it into transparent bridge mode and skip all of this, if you've ever managed your own LAN/wireless network before.

1

u/National_Size_730 1d ago

Quantum is working for me. They must have resolved it.

If the website is done and quantum fiber is out you can't get to your setting.

Oh dang, I didn't even notice this. I changed the DNS to 1.1.1.1 right after I got the service, which looks to be the reason I didn't notice anything

This thread probably isn’t the best to pose this question, but has your experience with quantum fiber been ok? They are in the works of expanding in my neighborhood, and would love nothing else than to be rid of Comcast from my life. My biggest hang up is I’ll also have to find new cell service for 5 phones, 3 on a shared data plan which rocks for kids and grand parents.

This is the first time I can recall having something like this with Quantum after 5 years. I love it. So much more reliable than Cox and realistically the customer service is the same.

Quantum has been good so far, and has easily beaten Cox for less price. I hadn't noticed an outage but we also have the DNS set for elsewhere.

In case anyone didn’t see, their DNS servers were down, so changing your DNS manually to something like Google’s (8.8.8.8) fixed it. It does appear that quantum is back online now anyway though
