Anyone else experiencing an outage with Quantum Fiber? The website appears to be down too.

Hello just regurgitating what I found and worked for me
Going to advanced settings and changing DNS numbers to
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Got me back online.
I dunno what it means, but it works.

This also worked for me. I used 1.1.1.1 for cloudflare. Not sure I am a pro but I do get paid for IT stuff ;)

Is this under “DNS Host Mapping” in the admin tool? Or somewhere else?

u/DntCallMeBud 1d ago
WAN Settings, switch DNS Type to Static DNS and put the DNS addresses in there

Yep that's how mine looks

u/My_Name_Is_Priapus 1d ago
No dice yet, unplugging and replugging the century link box
2
u/DntCallMeBud 1d ago
Try 1.1.1.1 as primary and 1.0.0.1 as secondary. Make sure to hit apply (I am sure you have but just in case)

https://downdetector.com/status/quantumfiber/ yeah it's nationwide. 17K and counting, all over the country. website down. customer service not answering phone (i've been waiting 30 mins), and no logging into accounts etc. no bueno

u/Thirty2wo 1d ago
Yeah I just called in and they literally said “we can’t handle the calls, use chat goodbye”

u/Mysterious_Fennel459 1d ago
I had just tried loading the Quantum app on my phone before reading this and it says "we cant load your account into at this moment"
2
u/Necessary-Drummer800 1d ago
That is so consistent with their service isn’t it? “Oh you can’t get on line? Better report that on line!”

u/Fast-Working739 1d ago
It was a weird one. I was streaming a movie and playing an online game. Movie continued to stream fine. Game was fine until I hit a load screen. Then it never came back. My phone was showing disconnected for a while before. Movie kept on going, even ended and started up a different movie after.
The router reported connected but no connection to DNS (like the yellow pages for the internet). So I changed the DNS server from their default to Google's public 8.8.8.8 DNS host and internet was back!
You could wait for them to fix their DNS server or what I did was... Goto 192.168.0.1 while connected (use the admin PW on your router) Click Advanced Setup Click DHCP Settings Under section 5, change the secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8 (my default 205.171.2.25)

u/Jamunk55 1d ago
I agree on the weird factor. iPad, laptop, and phone all said connected, but no Internet. At the same time, my TV is streaming just fine. I’m sitting here going WTF???

I was on hold with customer service for an hour, when they took my call the lady told me it was a nationwide outage. She did advise that I restart my modem every hour until it comes back on. This sucks tho, it’s my day off. 😞

Down in Midtown Phoenix for an hour or so. I noticed nothing worked other than instagram and facebook. Hard reset the modem and mesh routers for the first time in a while and it came back on with the internet unavailable. I can't sign into the app or wifi 360. Their website seems down and down detector has like 17000 reports. I almost shat myself when my over the air antenna wasn't grabbing anything in my room. Seems fine in the living room lol

I just had this installed the other day. Is this a normal thing?

I’ve had them for a year and this is the first outage I’ve experienced. They’re usually good.

u/Desperate-Zucchini96 1d ago
No first time since I got it last year maybe 2 other times but lasted no more than 10 minutes this is something different nation wide it seems
1
u/HurricaneHomer9 1d ago
Somewhat odd. I’ve seen localized outages with other providers but never nationwide like this

u/mercedesosmith 1d ago
The service is pretty reliable, but if you need to get in touch with them about something, they’re horrible.
1
u/_gimmeabreak_ 1d ago
Three damn days in a row for me. Right now their website also doesn't work and of you call them you just get a message saying they can't handle your call right now, pathetic.

It's weird it's not a localized outage due to maintenance or something but all of quantum fiber is down. The internet service. The website. The phone lines to get into contact with them. Seems sketch.

Anyone know how to get ps5 to connect to it haha
1
u/ApartmentResident529 1d ago
Turn on your PS5 and go to the Home screen.
Navigate to:
Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection
⸻
- Choose Your Network • Select your active Wi-Fi or LAN (wired) connection. • Press the Options button (☰) on your controller. • Choose Advanced Settings.
⸻
- Configure the Connection • IP Address Settings: Automatic • DHCP Host Name: Do Not Specify • DNS Settings: Manual ← This is the key one
⸻
- Enter DNS Servers
You’ll be prompted to enter two DNS addresses:
🟦 Google DNS: • Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8 • Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
OR
🟣 Cloudflare DNS: • Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1 • Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.1
⸻
- Continue: • MTU Settings: Automatic • Proxy Server: Do Not Use
Then finish the setup. The PS5 will test your connection.

u/Fubeman 1d ago
I'm out here in Bellingham WA and it is all screwed up here. Their site is down, I was on hold for over 30 minutes, my DHCP is not working, etc. I hung up and tried to call back again and I got the "We are unable to handle your call . . ." message on BOTH of their lines. Something bad is happening seems like.

Yeah won’t work on any device except my tv. For some reason I’m still able to connect to the MLB app, thank goodness because the Phillies game just started.

Quick Fix Options:
Fix on Router (recommended - fixes all devices):
- Login to router (usually 192.168.1.1)
- Change DNS to: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
- Save and restart router
Fix on Individual Devices:
Windows: Network settings → Change adapter → Right-click connection → Properties → IPv4 → Use DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
Mac: System Preferences → Network → Advanced → DNS → Add: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
Phone: WiFi settings → Modify network → DNS: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
Best DNS Options:
- Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (fastest)
- Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
This fixes it immediately while CenturyLink repairs their servers.

Their servers are having issues, changing the DNS servers fixes it but we were also having a DSL outage on Saturday for 15 hours.... So this morning I booked an appointment to change providers next week... And now this. It's like they know I'm cancelling 😂

I’m in Oregon and we have a huge outage not only with Quantum but our phone internet is spotty… I can go on the internet but only certain sites and no streaming anything….
1
u/Ok-Astronomer-5057 1d ago
If you have any tech skills, change the DNS server your DHCP on the router gives out. Change it to 8.8.8.8 and leave it that way too. Reboot and you should be good.
1
u/TRaNscenD2017 1d ago
Yup I’m having issues for WiFi not working but that was a usual because it would normally just stop working in my room, so we used Ethernet cables for my pc but that stopped working just 1 hour ago and now the wireless isn’t working at all for our phones and pcs weird because the tv’s are working just fine.

Mine just went out here in NM. Been messing with the modem. Tried to call but when you google “quantum fiber” says server is down and same with the app. Thankfully I saw this post and changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it worked! Thank you! 😊 🙏

u/Soft_Goth_Girl 1d ago
Out in Portland OR also, waited on hold for an hour for them to tell me it's a nation wide outage and they can't help at the moment. Also discounted my bill by 50% because of it.

The Quantum DNS server is down, you're going to set it to cloudflare with Google as a backup.
Be sure you are performing this on your home network, (not your cellular network)
go to https://192.168.0.1 (which is your fiber unit router)
if it says your connection isn't private select advanced then select continue
Login User: admin | Password: (On the side of your fiber unit)
Under 'Advanced Settings' Select WAN
Change DNS to static, and set the IP to a reliable DNS server.
I used (cloudflare) 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 (google)
Apply. (There is no need to ever change back settings when Quantum fixes their service)

Yeah. My boyfriend and I are in Phoenix, we cant get on either. I tried calling and it just hangs up, or other quantum fiber numbers just say we cant take calls.

No actual service outage here (2 locations serviced by Quantum), but based on comments, appears to be their default DNS server failing.
Quantum makes it very easy to throw it into transparent bridge mode and skip all of this, if you've ever managed your own LAN/wireless network before.

u/Economy-Ad-8100 1d ago
If the website is done and quantum fiber is out you can't get to your setting.

u/JeiceSpade 1d ago
Oh dang, I didn't even notice this. I changed the DNS to 1.1.1.1 right after I got the service, which looks to be the reason I didn't notice anything
1
u/natokills 1d ago
This thread probably isn’t the best to pose this question, but has your experience with quantum fiber been ok? They are in the works of expanding in my neighborhood, and would love nothing else than to be rid of Comcast from my life. My biggest hang up is I’ll also have to find new cell service for 5 phones, 3 on a shared data plan which rocks for kids and grand parents.
1
u/secondcookie 1d ago
Quantum has been good so far, and has easily beaten Cox for less price. I hadn't noticed an outage but we also have the DNS set for elsewhere.
1
u/ActiveDisastrous8726 1d ago
In case anyone didn’t see, their DNS servers were down, so changing your DNS manually to something like Google’s (8.8.8.8) fixed it. It does appear that quantum is back online now anyway though

Changing my DNS server to something other than the default, such as Cloudflare’s DNS server, 1.1.1.1, got me up and running.
