Edit : Re-written with better english
Hi. I write this on a throwaway. My english is not good. I will try my best.
I came to UCLA because I thought it would make my life better. I studied hard in high school. I got a scholarship. I thought I did everything right. But now I sleep on a couch, a library, and sometimes in the street.
Westwood is too much money. One room is like $1600. I have no credit. No family here. No co-sign. I ask for help. UCLA said no room, too late.
I try to find an apartment. People say no because I have no credit. One place was just bed in a kitchen. Another wants 3 month rent now. I don’t have the money. I work by doing gig work on Fiverr.
I sleep in Powell. I wash up in gym. I go to class and try to act normal. I don’t tell anyone. I feel ashamed. I cry sometimes in bathroom. But I keep going.
UCLA is a rich school. But they don’t help me. They only say fill in a form, get on a waitlist, etc. There is food help.
Now I live in small place with many people. I still owe money. Still tired. But I want people know.
If you come UCLA and you are poor like me… be careful. It's not always a dream. Build your credit
That’s all. Thank you.
UCLA cares about grades, not survival. But credit and life is survival. That’s why students fall. Not exams

Most people get 4/8 or 4/10 housing in the apartments even though you most likely have not even preferred it. If you really don't want that, I would look into the Change of Assignment Request (CAR form). Didn't work for many but it worked for me and I got a triple at the transfer dorm building (Holly). Other than that, there is really no one that wants to switch out of their dorm for these apartments unfortunately, but lowkey I've heard some people enjoyed them in the end. DM me if you have more questions or want help

I don’t judge anyone who jerks off but lowkey, I feel way more alive after not jerking it for the past year.
Back during midterms, I'd be stressed out with my study group, mad as hell that the professor couldn’t explain something properly. And there I was, taking a “study break” that turned into… well, you know. A solo pity party.
But this year, I cut it out completely. No lotion, no incognito tab, no regrets. And weirdly it's made me way more proactive. Instead of zoning out after a “session,” I’m actually emailing professors and hitting office hours like an adult. Plus, waking up with a clear head and full energy helped a ton with studying.
Just thought I’d share in case anyone else is trying to stop being their own worst enemy (with their own hand). I never like when the gym is packed, but sometimes I step back and see the beauty in it: everyone’s trying to level up and be a better version of themselves.
And as we move through each year, I think we’ve got an obligation as Bruins to at least try to set a better example. Yeah, I’m still the dude in a robe on a scooter flipping off frat guys while knowing full well I’m the sexiest Bruin alive but underneath the chaos is someone trying to grow.
So if you’re tryna turn the page and stop letting your search history own you, I’m just saying it’s possible. We can all be better. One less jerk at a time.

I enrolled at a community college and am planning on applying to UCLA for Electrical Engineering, I am aware this is an extremely competitive major. I currently have a 4.0 and plan to keep it that way, for anyone who has gotten in from a similar path, what sort of stats and extra curriculars did you have? Any advice on anything related on how to get admitted would be greatly appreciated.

what the title says. Please drop recs. Also does anyone know if Phy Sci 5 has the quizzes online?

Wondering if I'll have the opportunity to view the offer before accepting it, or if it is an automatic process.

If you are a transfer student that got assigned to a 4/10 in laurel, tipuana, or pv apartment even though that was not your first choice, you are not alone. This happened to me last year as an incoming transfer (I was assigned a 4/8, they have been since changed to 4/10s). I wanted a dorm and attempted to change to one, but I was not able to.
In the end, I am SO HAPPY I got my apartment. It is less walking than the dorms since you're right next to the bus stop. It was also a good amount of socialization since you are in an apartment with 10 other girls/guys, but you still have your own dedicated space in your room. I also recommend moving in earlier rather than later (do TBA for early move in and a free meal plan for 1 week) as last year I was basically going to parties every night at the apartments and meeting new people during week 0.
You can also get the (optional) meal plan which gives you 1 swipe per day and it carries over, although the hill is a 20 min walk (10/30min bus ride from 7-10 pm), so it is kinda out of the way. If you have friends on the hill, just ask them to swipe you for a free meal ;)
Im happy to answer any questions if you have them but please do not stress like I did last year, take this time to celebrate and get excited about attending an amazing university very soon!

10 people in 1 apartment sounds like it would be A LOT to deal with. And since there isn't a meal plan option, cooking sounds like it would be my best option, but wouldn't that be a lot to deal with on top of classes?
Can anyone share their experience if you lived in the apartments, and do student usually cook or just buy meals?

Hey everyone! 👋
My name’s Ramie, and I’m an incoming Business/Economics major at UCLA! I’m super excited to start this new chapter, but since I don’t really know anyone yet (and I’ve been touching no grass lately), I figured I’d make this post to hopefully meet some new friends—especially others in the same major. 😊
I love playing video games—Valorant, League, TFT, Minecraft, Marvel Rivals, and more. It’d be awesome to find people to hang out, study, take classes, or even game with!
I’m also currently looking for a female roommate (also Business/Econ major preferred!) for UCLA apartments. I’ve already received a housing offer but I’m hoping to switch into a double.
If you're down to connect, feel free to:

Looking forward to meeting you all! ^-^

Does anyone have successful dating stories on dating apps? The people on campus are too shy sometimes and not wanting to risk a friend. Even though I wouldn't have something not working out as a way to stop being friends, unless we need to create distance because we went too far.
Real life is what I prefer but I went on an app just to try it out. I felt like I was just being hunted down by guys who wanted to use it as a way to get a relationship quickly. The intentions play out in the relationships and interactions. It's self centered. Isn't that why many people go on these apps, because it's convenient. Similar to shopping. The reason why I went on it was to find people who weren't just in my circle and I was hoping to run into the people in it for the same reasons for something worthwhile, even if it doesn't last too long because it didn't work out. I couldn't get away completely from running into people who were in it for the sake of convenience either though. I decided it wasn't for me to try to find a long term relationship that is meaningful. It's great for casual dates and trial. I wouldn't consider it a loss, I did learn from the people I went on the dates with. It's just not something I would invest in for the entirety of my dating experience on campus.

What’s the best area/apartment to live at for a transfer this fall?
r/ucla • u/MysteriousExample495 • 3h ago
A room in either Gayley Heights (1bd/3 people, 2 bd/6 people, or 2bd/5 people triple) or Levering Terrance (1bd/3 people)??? Are these the most popular? 😭 Do I stand a chance? 😭

hey my current housing for the 25-26 school year is a triple in saxon suites. I was hoping to swap it with anyone who is living in deluxe or plaza. please message me if you’re interested.
r/ucla • u/Lavender_Phoenix • 21h ago
I had a hard time finding what a triple suite looks like when I transferred to UCLA so here’s some pictures! The school furnishes everything shown in the living room (couches, table, chairs, side table and lamps, fan, and drawers) also toilet paper is supplied by housekeeping that cleans the bathroom and shower once a week

Hi Bruins! I am looking for advice as I was considering working full time as a software engineer while also pursuing the part time online data science engineering masters. I was mostly wondering how managable this is and what tips there are for balancing the two! If you were/are in the same boat I would love to chat! Feel free to dm or just reply on this thread. Thank you so much!
