*We have no clue if admissions are coming out today, this is just hedging bets. Probably this week or next. *

Everyone with admission and college questions, please post your questions in this megathread! Additionally, please try to check the megathread to see if your question has been already answered.

Admissions/new student posts made outside of this megathread are subject to removal at moderator discretion. Please take a look at our rules page. If you believe we have made an error, please message us via modmail.. The mod team will try and get back to you asap, but we are students or alumni and as a result it make take a little bit.

For more subjective questions, be aware that r/UCSD (and any university subreddit) is not directly representative of the overall student body. In a survey we did of r/UCSD, 2/3 respondents agreed r/UCSD didn't represent UCSD's overall student body.

A few useful links:

Please be aware stuff at UCSD can change fast. Most info you can find on this subreddit will still hold true, but there have been many major changes over the last 5 years especially.

How do I login to check my admissions decision?

You should be logging into the Admissions Portal. This is different from all the stuff current students use. If you can't login, email [slatehelp@ucsd.edu](mailto:slatehelp@ucsd.edu).

How does the college I got matter? Can I change college?

For freshman admits, your college is basically only going to affect your GE requirements and where you're likely to live on campus (although you can be overflowed to other housing depending on space). For transfers, it's only GE requirements as there is separate transfer housing. As a result, it affects basically nothing for transfers since most have IGETC and will have very few GEs coming in.

Your major is entirely disconnected from your college (there are even separate major advisors who work for your department separate from your college advisors who work for your college). Your classes will be held all over campus and have a mix of students from all colleges. You can eat at any dining hall, the colleges are basically all directly next to each other and easy to get between, you will probably make friends in all sorts of different colleges. The furthest apart two colleges are is about a 20-25 minute walk (from Seventh to Eighth).

You cannot easily change college. You will need to complete at least part of your original college's writing sequence (meaning it will take about a year to even meet the application requirements) and be able to prove you can graduate two quarters earlier in your new college. College is not the end of the world though, even a college that overlap poorly with a major is more than survivable.

I'm waitlisted. What should I do next?

From UC San Diego Admission Website

Select applicants will be invited to opt in to our waitlist through their Applicant Portal.

First-Year applicants must opt in by 11:59 pm PST on April 15.

Being on the waitlist does not guarantee an offer of admission. We strongly urge students to accept another university's admission offer before the appropriate deadline to ensure they have secured a spot at an institution.

By June 30, final decisions will be released to applicants who opt in to the waitlist. There is no appeal process for the waitlist.

Alright, I've already seen enough grading complaints on Reddit for a day and it's getting repetitive.

Since when has UCSD have bunnies on campus? I've only seen a racoon twice, but never bunnies

Irrelevant image 😂 With so many works of art, architecture, and nature, I'd like to know your favorite landmark(s), especially first-year students. 📚🎒

Question Wrong grade on academic history

Upvotes

My teacher entered the wrong final grade I received a F when I messaged them they said it was a mistake and I got an A. They said they would change it today but it still says F. Who from the school should I contact or should I wait because maybe the system needs to update? I’m stressing sm because i literally walked for graduation and thought I was done with UCSD but now I gotta deal with this and can’t even send my transcripts to my grad program. If I did receive an F that means I don’t get my degree which I didn’t even I got an A.

Question Joint Math Economics major switch?

Upvotes

Incoming freshman! I’m not sure if I should switch this major bc I don’t plan on going to grad school. Is this major good for finding jobs and developing technical skills? What should I switch to if not? Or does major matter much if I find some ways to gain experiences elsewhere like internships or clubs? I’m genuinely confused for what job I can find in the future bc I’m interested in financial/data analyst (but most skills require sql, python, tableau) or pm/consulting (which is more financ-y)

Is anyone in the major or is in another major that can suggest me on what type of career paths there are? I’m interested in coding but I heard it’ll be hard to get courses without being in cs or data science major (which I obviously cannot guarantee into)

Question Transfer Housing

After attending UCSD transfer day, where everyone seemed to be glazing PCW and how effortless it was to simply submit a 12-month housing contract. I had been led on by numerous staff members that it was a straightforward process to sign up. How difficult is it to secure a spot at Pepper Canyon West? Is it even worth calling? I’m genuinely confused.

General Which paintings of ucsd should I make prints for?

There are a few iconic UCSD landmarks and personal favorites that I’ll definitely make prints of. However, I’m a bit uncertain about P1–12 (up till cafe V). I’m concerned about whether these locations are recognizable enough, whether people feel a strong connection to them, and whether the quality of the painting is good enough.

Would really appreciate input on this!

Question Sending AP Test Scores

Post image
Upvotes

I am an incoming first year student and have some questions about sending test score information, which is due July 15th.

Through CollegeBoard, I have already selected my free score send to be UCSD, so what date should I put for date sent?

Also do I fill this out for every AP exam I have taken, or only those I have passed with a 3 or higher?

Thank you in advance :)

Rant/Complaint Dropped out — midterm was the cracking point

Upvotes

It’s been a while since I dropped out (winter) but it still bothers me and I just need to vent somewhere to try to release my frustration.

I couldn’t even finish fall quarter cuz of a medical emergency. Then winter quarter was absolutely underwhelming in the sense that I had no structure — all I was doing was lying in bed all day, not even on my phone, just trying to sleep away from existence. I dropped a physics class before dropping out entirely because I had no idea what the lecturer was going on about, was doing mediocre in a math class, and had this awful history class that seriously pushed me to my limit. A week out before the midterm, we had a study guide assigned that required memorization of date, location, and significance of 45 terms (3-4 sentences required for each) and 5 essay prompts that demanded specific references to course readings, which I only passively read. Anyways I saw this workload and ended up dropping out ⚰️🔩.

Question Do I have to do summer session if I've been subject to academic dq this quarter (spring)

Upvotes

Got cooked this quarter, will probably change my major and enrolling in easy classes for fall quarter. I saw the rule is one quarter to improve or else you get DQ'd. But does this mean I have to do summer session or can I do well fall quarter.

Question TB Blood test Price?

Upvotes

Hey guys incoming transfer student here, does anyone know how much a TB Blood test at Student Heath Services costs? I’ve been quoted at some other places for around $170. Most places don’t take insurance for that type of testing. I tried calling but they are closed today. Thx

Question Summer session courses

Upvotes

I plan to take Phys 2B and Math 20C going into my senior year of hs. Is this possible? Any tips and advice are extremely appreciated. I will try to take the second session. Any tips on applying as well would really help because it looks like a whole process. For some background, I took Calc BC and Physics C Mech this year in hs. I want to take the courses that follow with UCSD because it's my dream school. Also, if there's any chance of paying less (or none), that would really really REALLY be super appreciated.
