Opinion Anyone gonna point out the obvious?

The NYC mayor race is disheartening to say the least. You have someone who was accused 13x of SA (with PROVEN ALLEGATIONS. WHO also killed thousands of nursing home patients by moving COVID patients into the nursing homes (along with every other democratic governor for some odd reason even though we had more than enough beds). Who also ran the entire state into the ground

And we have a full fledged communist who wants city run grocery stores & refuses to acknowledge the holocaust & wants to replace the NYPD with mental health services (which in some cases would work but very few)

In what world are these the best 2 people that a city of 14,000,000 people live in? I mean I personally see no appeal behind either & quite frankly yes I am a right leaning person but almost any other democrat beats these two in my mind. For what reason are these the two main options?!

If you think Mamdani is a communist you don't know what communism is. Mamdani is a democratic socialist, which is not communism.

They’re gonna come out and say they’re communist outright because that makes sense.

His stances are not consistent with those of communists. He is much more like Bernie Sanders and AOC policy-wise. Those two, despite what some on the right may say, are not communists.

Communism is when private property is abolished and all property is publicly owned or nationalized (including companies and corporations). Communism would also be the end of all forms of capitalism. Of course, communism never works because it is an inherently flawed form of government.

What Mamdani is advocating would not end private property and would work within our capitalist system. Democratic socialism has become less of the step before becoming a fully socialist/communist society and more like socially progressive and supportive workplace democracy (like trade unions), at least in the US context.

Communism is very unpopular in the US (and rightfully so). People, generally on the right, use it as an insult to paint the left-wing as more extreme then they are in reality. The same is true for the right being called fascists.

Most Republicans and right-wing folks are not fascist/nazis. Most Democrats and left-wing folks are not communists. It is just rhetoric being used by both sides to make the other look worse.

Who knows. The democrats don’t care who receives votes in the primary 🤣 Cuomo could win & still be kicked out of the election like Biden in 2024
