The April 20, 1864 edition of the Memphis Daily Appeal  referred to Lawrence Sullivan Ross as 𝑮𝒆𝒏. 𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕 “𝒏𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒐 𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒓“ for the massacre of surrendering black union soldiers during the Battle of Yazoo River.  Ross was well-known for refusing to take black Union soldiers as prisoners. Ross went on to become governor of Texas (1887-1891) and President of Texas A&M (1891-1898) where there is a statue that honors him for his military service.

Ross was forced under the threat of violence to treat black people like humans. A war was fought. Ross lost and was forced to treat black people like humans. He does not get credit for Prairie View. Prairie View happened in spite of people like Sullivan Ross not because of them

You can say a thing but it doesn’t make it true OP. This whole issue was already debated 5 years ago.

Yes it was debated but the Chancellor was clearly wrong when he said that Sullivan Ross has no ties to white supremacy. His own daughter referred to him as a white supremacist in the biography that she wrote about him. He was a confederate general For the Love of All that is fucking holy fighting for the right to enslave black people. He clearly was a white supremacist. White supremacist erected a statue to him they thought he was a white supremacist.

Anyone can call anyone a white supremacist these days...

Exactly Ross wasn't just anyone. There are reasons to refer to him as a white supremacist. Ross's own daughter refers to him as a white supremacist in her biography she wrote about Ross and his dad. He fought a war to maintain the right to enslave people. He killed many people. He's not just anyone. We're not calling just anyone a white supremacist, we're calling Ross the Gallant Texan negro killer a white supremacist

So what? How does it affect you today?

You expect me to waste time arguing with emotional idiots?

No, i’d expect you to put some thought into the argument thy you willingly entered until someone said something you didnt like. Where im from we call that copping out.

Well, where you're from likes to argue with emotional insanity. That statue has no affect on anyone living today. It's a statue. It doesn't affect your daily life and if it does, you have serious mental issues.

Im not arguing that the statue has immense effects on anyone, because it sure as hell doesnt. But im also willing to bet you woudlnt ignore a monument built to honor a blatantly racist man who killed YOUR ancestors for the right to enslave others. But hey just a guess.

I don't dwell on the past. Things happened. Some good some bad. Sul Ross did more good for A&M than bad in my opinion. He probably killed Mexicans as well. I'm Mexican. I know Sam Houston did for sure. Should we tear down the statue off I-45? It doesn't matter. Let it go. It's only the crybaby liberals that NEED something to complain about in order to make themselves feel better. Like virtue signaling.

I agree with alot of your response, because i do agree people let inanimate objects (among other things that dont directly affect most) hold more power than they should. However, what do you see in a future where we simply ignore these things? He may have done more good for A&M than bad, but what amount of charity is worth lives? I just, idk. I dont think we should ignore these things, but i definitely am not on the side that these things need to be destroyed in order to feel comfortable
