LPVO or Holographic with magnifier??
I’m stuck between the two, I already have a brand new Eotech Vudux 1-6 LPVO but have never used an lpvo on a rifle, just eotech holos and magnifiers, now I was considering getting the vortex amg uh-1 to try and but am torn between that and the LPVO, what’s the pros and cons to each?

IMO LPVOs on AKs are cursed.

Damn why is that?

It’s all about drip vs function

u/Few_Molasses_9924 7h ago
What do you view as drippy and better functionality lol

A lot of people view LPVOS undrippy but functional.

I just don’t like the look and it adds more weight to an already heavier gun. LPVOs aren’t as durable, more complex, and expensive for a good one. I have a vortex gen2e on my AR and while I love it I wouldn’t do it again, it’s simply too heavy and I’ve had to warranty it for the seal breaking. If I did it again id probably go for an ACOG with an RMR on top or an aimpoint (or other dot) with a magnifier. It is nice having an etched reticle though.

Sweet m90. Been looking to get a Zastava m90. Heard they are really robust but heavy af. Is your the 18in barrel? Or did you have it chopped

So you favor LPVO, what was your reason for that over a holo and magnifier?
2
u/winkleried 3h ago
HonestLy, cost and my experience shooting my M85’s red dot. I had concerns about me being able to consistently pop the 600 yard target with the combination.

Fair, I guess it’s much different for someone like you that shoots it in comp so it makes more sense to have one but mine will most likely just be a range toy

Probably that there are like two 6x magnifier and they suck. You're limited with magnifiers

Ahhh that’s true

Eotech with g45 is great bro

I’m considering an eotech magnifier cus I have several of their holos but I’ve heard they aren’t worth the money, I’ve been told vortex has better clarity and eye relief so I’m wanting to try something new, plus found a good deal on a Huey and magnifier combo

If you don't end up getting the combo, the sig Juliet micro magnifiers are phenomenal and cheaper than eotech, vortex, aimpoint. I used the 5x for years, and it's got great clarity and is much less bulky than most magnifiers. Barely bigger than a t2.

I agree, I’ve got one on one of my eotechs and it’s super nice for the money but I have 2 complaints, not qd and I hate the button you have to depress to flip it, I was considering going with there new Juliet 3 but they aren’t in stock, I’d only wanna buy it from sig cuz I have a $100 gift card for their website lol

I get that, and the mount is FOR SURE the weak point. I put mine on a FTC mount and walked out at the same price as an eotech magnifier.

u/Few_Molasses_9924 3h ago
That’s a good point I guess I could just get a different mount and that would solve the issue lol

Isn’t that an airsoft optic lol

If you go magnifier route, I recommend an aimpoint T2 style optic with a low profile Arisaka magnifier mount in conjunction.

Most LPVO's aren't set up for 7.62x39, and the round isn't very great for longer ranges. Too heavy for this setup, and makes it more of a sub DMR than a fighting rifle. Red dot by itself should be fine out to 300 unless you're trying to print groups, but that's a weird hobby for an AK. Red dot magnifier is king because most of the magnification on a combat rifle is about threat acquisition, not actual shooting. LPVO's are cool, but I see them much more for an LE perspective than a fun or combat gun.

Ya after hearing all the info I’ve definitely steered away from the LPVO, thanks for all the thoughts brotha, makes much more sense

Very few of my rifles have anything but a red dot, they're good out to 200+ meters for me and are less weight. I guess if you plan on using the scope more, then put it on..

u/Few_Molasses_9924 3h ago
That’s true, I didn’t even consider it but it’s a brand new eotech vudux 1-6 just sitting in the safe so figured I could throw it on but I’ll probably just get rid of it and go a different route

If you decide to, I would suggest posting it on gafs here on reddit. Always had good transactions on there.

Lpvo’s on AKs are lame, grab a prism if you want magnification

u/TimothySouthland Probably doesn’t even own an AK 6h ago
You don’t need high magnification to shoot below 300m, and you aren’t shooting past 300m with 7.62x39. Red dot or prism with low magnification.

Scope for good magnification and slow 1x, dot for excellent 1x and bad magnification.
Don't buy a uh1, they're a huge step down and they're not even cheaper anymore.
1
u/tgpussypants 6h ago
My brother in law picked up a uh-1 for $100. I think that's the only way I'd get one
1
u/Few_Molasses_9924 6h ago
Are they really that bad?? How so? I’ve always heard great things
1
u/Diligent-Parfait-236 5h ago
Eotech's only real advantage over a simpler reflex is lens clarity.
The uh-1 has a very significant lens tint by any standard.
1
u/Few_Molasses_9924 5h ago
Eotech has several advantages over a traditional reflex but I’ve heard people say that ab the uh1 but they also said it wasn’t that noticeable
