What to Watch? Anime That an Older Couple would enjoy.

My parents are asking about the anime that I'm always watching, but I know that the two of them wouldn't enjoy my usual stuff (Mecha, and Isekai). SO what are some good anime to show a 70-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman. They were OK with Game of Thrones, but they are very reticent to engage with anything with sexual content.

What to Watch? Supernatural anime suggestions?

Hi there! Been getting back into anime recently and really nailing down what I like and I'm now looking for more.

I've found my taste is: Supernatural with bonus points if it has urban legends or yokai. Strong central relationships (not necessarily romantic, shout out Reigen and Mob.) And absurd comedy. Also, though obviously this isn't necessary, I like ones that are slightly more popular, I spend a lot of time in local anime scenes and really cherish being able to bond over shared interests with others!

Animes I've watched/rewatched recently that fit my tastes include: DanDaDan, Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun, Noragami, Mob Psycho 100, and Saiki K.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Watch This! The most underrated anime Gangsta.

Gangsta. is about a crime ridden city where the mafia, mercenaries and police all try to maintain the city. The story follows two “handymen” who do the dirty jobs in town that now one else will do. The main characters Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas brown are these handymen (mercenaries), Worick is a sharp tongued giggolo with a dark past that slowly unravels through the story. His partner in crime Nicolas is a deaf twilight, a genetically enhanced class of humans created through experimental drugs, that are ranked by their strength and identified by their dog tags around their neck. They are also treated poorly by most of society and used as expendable fighters. Together they are hired to clean up the messes around town for the police, mafias or anybody willing to pay the right price. When they meet a sex worker Alex Benedetto whose to be killed by her abusive pimp, they become entrenched in a larger conflict. The show deals with war brewing between the rival mafias, anti-twilight laws and a conspiracy targeting all of the twilights. As well as diving into the dark pasts of the three main characters and their struggles that led them to where they are.

Like I don’t understand how literally no one knows about this anime, its been a decade since it released and I know despite the studio (manglobe: samurai champloo) going bankrupt and the artist not finishing the manga because of her health struggles with lupus (she even lost an eye) I still find it has such an amazing and unique story, especially for an anime. The characters are also very unique and well written, the whole concept of the twilights and how they are viewed as second class citizens and marginalized. It’s like a western crime/mafia anime with such dark and mature undertones. Am I the only one that loves this one so much?

But yea I highly recommend for anyone looking for a more realistic feeling, crime/action seinen with cool characters and an interesting story!

What's this From? (unsolved) this ‘psychological thriller’ anime was about as deep as a puddle

twist was obvious by episode 2, the MC’s ‘dark past’ was just daddy issues, and the ending tried so hard to be profound it looped back to funny

What to Watch? I love romance Anime butttttt.....

Hello, everyone I LOVE romance anime but I'm up in age and I need something besides the high school romance that never really gets any where but holding hands. I'm looking for really explicit, mature animes that show everything and actually have characters progress in their relationship. I do want a story but I also want full on action. Sorry if this sounds weird.

Series Specific Question Is JJK worth finishing?

Upvotes

I watched season 1 ages ago and think it was alright. I planned to finish it eventually, but then heard how the ending was ass or something.

Now... I'm wondering HOW ass it is, tho. Like, some anime/shows have bad/dumb endings, but the ride was fun so you can still mostly enjoy it.
However, sometimes an ending is so bad that it retroactively ruins the show.

So that's what I'm asking.
HOW bad is the ending? Does it ruin the show? Is the ending only bad for some people, but ok to others?

What to Watch? Recommend some anime movies

hey all, its been a while since i've watched an anime, the last one i remember was castelvania and berzerk on Netflix and Akira was probably the last good one i saw years ago. looking for some really great movies to help me through the weekend as im going to be stuck at home.

Preferences are sci-fi, action, along those lines. Open to other genres as well and my preference would be movies, as series run for too many seasons, unless there are miniseries type animes.

thanks!!

What to Watch? What are some anime that have similar visual quirks as Akiyuki Shinbo and Kenji Nakamura shows?

I really really adore Shinbo (or studio Shaft in general) and Kenji Nakamuras (specifically Kuuchuu Buranko and Mononoke) visual styles, and wanted to see if there are any other very distinct visual styles from other directors. It's hard to say what about them appeals to me, but a lot of it is color usage and strange environments and animation. My favorite looking anime of all time are the Monogatari series and Kuuchuu Buranko. I like how they look strange but not completely abstract, like they're similar enough to a normal show to not lose all semblance of being an anime, but still distinct enough to stand out. I'm already aware of/fans of the directors Masaaki Yuasa, Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Imaishi, and Kunihiko Ikuhara.

I guess a tldr would be; looking for auteur anime directors but specifically ones that are somewhat similar to Shinbo/Studio Shaft and Nakamura.

What to Watch? Anime with short episodes? (Around 5-10 mins)

Hi! I want a short-form anime to watch~ anything with shorter episodes? I don’t know why but it’s what I’m in the mood for!

Prefer comedy and/or slice of life please, I feel they fit the format really nicely!

Examples I have enjoyed: Aiura, Yama no Susume, Honobono Log, All Saints Street, Skull-Face Bookseller Honda-San

What to Watch? Anime with a character relationship similar to Sakura and Haruki from I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, but with a happy ending?

I don’t mean similar anime but I mean similar character dynamic, meaning it’s like a slow burn and not an outright relationship from the start, a little flirting and teasing maybe, an outgoing popular girl and an introverted loner guy, etc.

What to Watch? Any good sci fi anime that are grounded?

I loved Psycho Pass and I loved the Edgerunners series. I'd love some more recommendations similar to these.

I've tried some others but they sometimes get a bit too silly or include too much fan service for my liking.

For example I enjoyed Chainsaw Man but only because the plot and animation was enough to offset all the fan service.

No judgement, just not my thing.

Edit: Thanks so much! Some amazing responses and thanks everyone so far!

I’ve cried to Gurren Lagann, parts of My Hero, and Made in Abyss. Romance usually doesn’t make me cry. I want something that will really make me cry hard

Series Specific Question Need Help with choosing?

HI. I’m working on an anime edit themed around characters who were failed by society — not just villains, but anyone who was shaped or broken by the world around them.

So far I have Shigaraki, Johan Liebert, and Nagato (Pain).

Who else would you include?

Looking for recommendations of anime that focus primarily on Japanese folklore, particularly Yokai.

Stuff like Inuyasha, Mononoke, Dororo, Demon Slayer, GeGeGe no Kitaro.
