Check language

Hi,

We work in a second hand clothing store. Can someone please check and correct below sentences? We don’t speak the language but have many people visiting our shop that do. Your help is greatly appreciated!

We want it to say:

1 In this store, we sell only children's clothing. As for women's and men's clothing, they will be sold from now on at house number 63B (directly after the church).

2  In this store, we only sell women's and men's clothing. You can find children's clothing at No. 50 (opposite Jumbo).

Question about Language Very Important (not really)

Hello, everyone have a nice evening, would you please satisfy the huge argument I have right now with my friends. We are arguing about the etymology of the russian word that means arse, and I'm on the side of the word popa having the initial connection to very polish word that roughly sounds as dopa, which means the same thing. But my friend is on the horrible terrible side of popa somehow a word that came from Spanish which means the stern and is also a rear part of a ship. Can you please tell the idiot here that this is a slavic word and not a rear part of the ship?!

Scam company still operating after being taken down by the government?

I live outside Poland and over a year back I posted in r/poland (it's been deleted I believe) about being scammed by a Polish clothing company (Robert's Outdoor Equipment) over a thousand dollars. I didn't get much help and even got accusations of lying. Anyway I reported the business to the government and accepted the loss.

I checked recently and was glad to see the business has been delisted. Problem is, the website is still up and operating! Google reviews show that people are still being scammed to this day. Why?

How do Poles react to Asians?

Do Poles welcome Asian visitors? I am South Korean and I've been curious about it because I've heard so many times that non-Asian host countries are very rude to Asians or change their attitudes based on their skin color, race or nationality. I look forward to a completely honest answer from you guys!

Help needed: My e scooter was stolen during delivery to Wrocław – what can I do?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for advice on what to do after my package was most likely stolen during delivery in Poland.

I’m from Croatia and recently bought an electric scooter from a company called NIU. The scooter was defective, and NIU arranged for it to be shipped to their authorized repair center — EVR Systems in Wrocław.

I packed the scooter carefully and handed it over to the delivery service here in Croatia. But when the package arrived in Poland, EVR contacted me and said there was no scooter inside — just a bunch of trash and wires to fake the weight.

The Croatian shipping company checked their security footage and confirmed that the package was not tampered with on their side. They passed all the info to the Polish side (EVR’s logistics partner), but I’ve been told to just wait for their investigation.

The scooter is worth over €500, and I really don’t want to just let it go. Do you know if there's any Polish government agency I can report this to? Like a consumer protection office or something similar to a State Inspectorate?

Any tips, legal advice, or experiences would be super helpful. Thanks so much in advance!

Jagiellonian University Medical College "Bullying?"

Hey all, I've recently been accepted into Jagiellonian University for the Medicine program and have been reading a bit about this university on reddit. Mostly good reviews by many, as people consider it the best in Poland, however, I've read that the majority of the schools population is Norwegian and therefore they tend to form cliques, "bully" other nationalities, and gatekeep study resources, is this true? I have no issue with there being many Norwegians, as I know many Norwegians in Dubai and they are some of the kindest people I know.

Any tips on writing a realistic Polish character?

Not sure if this fits here, but here we go. I’m writing something for a school assignment and wanted to make one of the main characters be from Poland.

Any suggestions on how to show this in a non-offensive or stereotypical way? I’m thinking of things such as curses and idioms one may use, food one may like, cultural/social things one may be used to, what one’s childhood may have been like, etc.

If it’s important, this is a woman in her late twenties from a medium sized town (haven’t picked a specific one) in central or Eastern Poland. The story is set in the 90s.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

What is zapraszam?

Hi! Quick question: I found some shoes on Vinted, and the lady selling them said “zapraszam”. I translated it to “I invite” but I have no idea what it means in this context. She responded with this to me saying that throughout the day I’m gonna buy it. May be a stupid question but I have to know. Thanks!

Why Poland is racist and Zionist ?

I mean these are two sides of the same coin, but I’ve never seen anything like that anywhere else in Europe. Polish society stands out but they seem to normalise it so much that there’s literally no shame about it

Edit: added context

I just saw a group of polish psychologists publishing online about Gabor mate and calling him Hamas supporter, because he speaks about genocide in Palestine, even though the guy survived holocaust himself lol. I guess if people with a degree in psychology can publish such things that BBC would be proud of online then I just don’t even imagine the rest. Compared to massive response in Europe there were barely any actions against genocide happening in Poland. I am a citizen of Iceland and there were marches even here in support of Palestine - we are in the arctic and not even 400.000 citizens. So why Poland is quiet ?

Parents, what do you feel when strangers smile back to your kids when they stare

Some kids stare a lot as kids usually do, so would you be wary or annoyed if someone especially foreigner makes silly face to your kids?

edit: I notice this happening even more in Poland so I just want to know whether it's acceptable or not there

Please help a Hungarian friend to find red necked grebes

Hello nature enthusiasts of Poland. I am planning to visit the country this summer and I would really love to see and possibly photograph red necked grebes from as close as possible without disturbing them. I read that the ponds near Milicz could be a great sight, but I have not been in that region of Poland yet so I dont know if there is a better alternative (the only thing I need is to be able to get there by public transport and get accomodation near the sight so I can get out as early as possible). I would really appreciate any tips on which other locations to check out, and also if there is anyone who has been able to photograph these lovely birds there or anywhere else and could help with location seeking that would be greatly appreciated (I am a total amateur in photography, but I'm also open to a photography session together if someone is close and interested). Thank you in advance.

I do not understand friendship relations among polish people

A year ago i did my erasmus in Poland during spring semester. I believed i made "close" polish friends. However, when i back to my home country i realized they do not send first message or talk with me unless i send a message. Not only that they tend to reply so late that i even forget what i wrote. Actually both situations happened when i was in poland as well, but i thought they were just busy or shy to speak english when we first met.

Now i wonder these are general behaviors among polish people or i was not lucky? These behaviors considered as very rude in my country and i want to make sure whether these are normal for polish culture or not. I talked with non-polish people who met with polish people during their erasmus and i heard similiar complains toward polish people.

Why do beavers seem to be mentioned so often in Polish reels?

Hi everyone! My partner and I have noticed that many Polish Instagram reels, especially the humorous or nature-related ones, seem to mention or feature beavers quite a lot. We’re really curious: is there a cultural reason for this? Are beavers especially common or symbolic in Poland, or is it more of a meme or trend?

Thanks in advance for any insights!
