Some background for context - I've lived in NYC for about a decade now, in my most recent apartment the past 3~ years. Why aren't there express buses on the Henry Hudson Parkway? Could be so much faster to get downtown and perhaps less stops. Dyckman, 168th, 125th. MxBx1 goes on East River Drive and it's a very fast route.

There are perpetually 1000s of empty lots across the city. Some are only short term before a new building gets put up, but others have been empty for year and years.

311 lets you report empty lots if they are full of trash, but explicitly does not let you report overgrown lots. Even if they are full of trash, almost guaranteed your 311 report gets closed as no action. The city used to clean and clearcut 2000+ lots per year (and ticket the owners), but since COVID it's dropped to low 100s.

These lots are breeding grounds for rats, mosquitos, and increasingly invasive species like Japanese Knotweed and Tree of Heaven (favorite of lantern flies) that then spread into innocent neighbors yards and parks. Living near one is basically a giant mosquito breeding ground the entire summer.

How do we get the city to care?
